What flooring can you have throughout with a downstairs WC, hallway and kitchen??

Does anyone have the same flooring in all these three areas?

WC and kitchen need to be waterproof, but the hallway doesn't. I love hardwood flooring but it isn't waterproof.

Tiles are waterproof but so cold. I'm also worried if my 5 year old falls down the stairs falling on to a tiled floor would be very painful.

Is there a solution to all three areas?

How can you have flooring running through there rooms serving different purposes?

Amtico vinyl is what we have throughout these areas. It looks like wood and we have had many compliments over the years. Easily cleaned and not cold or noisy like laminate.

CaseofEllen · 09/03/2019 15:22

We have large ceramic tiles throughout our kitchen/lobby/bathroom area. They're suitable for all these areas from B&Q :)

hoochymamgu · 09/03/2019 16:45

Amtico driftwood vinyl on these places, works well especially with the dog Grin

We have (sealed) limestone tiles throughout kitchen/hall/loo/utility. It is hard but we have underfloor heating so it isn’t cold.

LVT like Amtico or Karndean would be softer and warmer underfoot.

DramaAlpaca · 09/03/2019 16:57

I have ceramic tiles. I don't mind that they are hard & cold, I just like that they are easy to clean.

MrsTumbletap · 09/03/2019 19:16

Ooo never heard of Amtico vinyl. Need to do a google search.

@EntirelyAnonymised would love underfloor heating but looked today and it looks quite expensive.

Do you have the electric kind or the one from your boiler? So it's essentially like a big radiator under your floor?

Are your floors concrete or wood?

Fr3d · 09/03/2019 19:23

Luxury vinyl tiles in those 3 rooms. So much warmer than real tiles. Real tiles would be more hard wearing though

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 09/03/2019 19:46

We have Moduleo which is a cheaper version of Karndean but just as nice

TattiePants · 09/03/2019 19:56

We have engineered wood flooring in all our downstairs rooms apart from the kitchen which is tiled. It's been fine in the downstairs loo so may also be ok in a kitchen.

Bamaluz · 09/03/2019 20:08

Karndean wood effect vinyl tiles throughout the whole ground floor.

Bedrooms too, painted plank effect. Only have carpet on the stairs and landing.

MajesticWhine · 09/03/2019 20:25

We have engineered wood throughout downstairs kitchen, loo and living area which is all open plan. It works well.

Lindabeau79 · 09/03/2019 20:28

We have moduleo too, its the same quality as Karndean but you just don't pay for the brand name! OH owns a flooring shop!

workshyfop · 09/03/2019 20:32

We have slate all through those rooms

jenthelibrarian · 09/03/2019 20:45

We have Karndean, in light oak.
Originally had it in hall and downstairs loo, continued it into kitchen and utility when they were redone and recently also had it put down in dining room.
I have a large mat inside the front door to absorb any dirt/wet, a rug at the bottom of the stairs in case of falls and also one in the dining room to break up the wood effect.
I love it - very easy to clean, looks good, you can't tell it was done in three separate lots.

MrsBlondie · 09/03/2019 21:44

Karndean. Its fab.

Fifthtimelucky · 09/03/2019 21:57

I have the same ceramic tiling in all 3 areas. Love it!

GoodGirlsGuide · 09/03/2019 22:01

We have beautiful limestone floor tiles - the downstairs WC are different but still limestone.

What flooring can you have throughout with a downstairs WC, hallway and kitchen??
Springiscomingsoon · 09/03/2019 22:09

@GoodGirlsGuide love those tiles!
We have Kardean - very pricey wish I had gone for the cheaper but same quality one!
Do you suffer from the cold OP? I still have tiles on my kitchen but my feet get so cold, the kardean is much better for them.

edinanon · 09/03/2019 22:14

I would definitely suggest luxury vinyl tile (LVT).
Amtico is one brand - there are lots of others to choose from.
Is hard wearing, waterproof and not too cold underfoot.

GoodGirlsGuide · 09/03/2019 22:48

Springiscomingsoon thanks! We love them. I don’t notice the coldness of the tiles - I do wear my ugg slippers a lot though Wink. The tiles are so easy to clean and are so beautiful and interesting to look at, with wonderful patterns and fossils etc. Our tilers commended us on their wonderful quality and they were incredible value. We love them but are a family of grown up children and no pets. If I’m in my tights I occasionally slide on them so would be cautious of little ones sliding/slipping (not an issue for us as I said)

MrsTumbletap · 09/03/2019 22:57

Concrete floor and it's always so cold.

Downstairs WC has big ceramic tiles and it's freezing even with a radiator. Yes I'm always cold and the kitchen is cold too as it has a door connecting to the garage.

PigletJohn · 09/03/2019 23:02

It's expensive to add UFH to concrete floors, unless done during build.

Concrete is suitable for tiling (wooden floors, not so much) but it will make you feel cold. Carpet and underlay on concrete, or even blown vinyl, will insulate a bit and feel more comforting.

As warm air rises, and cold draughts blow along the floor, it is difficult to prevent a concrete ground floor from feeling cold.

babyno5 · 09/03/2019 23:05

We have aqualoc laminate in all three areas. There's a certain comedy value at watching the dogs "wheelspin" on it 😂
