Renting: would no shower be off putting?

I am thinking of renting a room on a Monday to Friday basis (I’m in central London so this is fairly common) but my bathroom only has a bath. I know it’s unusual but I’m just used to it.

Would it put people off renting?

Can't you get one of those ones you attach to bath taps, just a hose type thing?

Sexnotgender · 08/03/2019 20:51

It would put me off.

Cherubienne · 08/03/2019 20:51

Presumably it has no flexible shower head extension? It wouldn't put me off on its own but if there is a lot of similar stock in the area with that I might choose the other.

Jon65 · 08/03/2019 20:53

Wouldnt put me off, I hate showers, love to bathe.

MumofTinies · 08/03/2019 20:58

Yup, we didn't rent an otherwise perfect house for that reason, it would have been awful to not be able to have a quick wash.

I had one of those things that fit over the tap as a teenager, they may have improved since but I remember the fixtures used to fall off and you would either get sprayed with very hot or very cold water.

LikeDolphinsCanSwim · 08/03/2019 20:59

Yes. How do you wash your hair?

Seniorschoolmum · 08/03/2019 21:01

No, as long as there is good water pressure and it won’t take 25 mins to run a bath.

QuietlyQuaffing · 08/03/2019 21:32

Yes it would. 2 people running baths would take too long in the morning and a lot of people don't like washing their hair in a bath or over the sink.

Redglitter · 08/03/2019 21:33

I wouldnt consider living somewhere with no shower. No bath yes but a shower would be essential

CaseofEllen · 08/03/2019 21:34

Not for me but we only have a bath too, waiting to do up the bathroom. Invest in one of those shower heads that fix onto the taps?

MaybeitsMaybelline · 08/03/2019 21:34

I would be fine, I rarely shower and must prefer a quick shallow bath.

cstaff · 08/03/2019 21:36

I haven't had a bath in about 20 years but living without a shower would definitely be a dealbreaker for me.

VelvetPineapple · 08/03/2019 21:38

It would put me off. It’s too much hassle to run a bath everyday. And it’s a huge waste of water if you fill it right up just for a quick rinse, so you end up sitting in an inch of water and shivering.

SpottedTiger · 08/03/2019 21:38

We have decided against renting property based on no shower in the past.

greenelephantscarf · 08/03/2019 21:39

yes it would.
unless I were very, very desperate.
what do you use to rinse yourself after the bath Confused ?

RavenLG · 08/03/2019 21:41

Definitely. And did decide against a beautiful cottage cheaply priced because of it. No way would we have enough time to run 2 baths in the morning, let alone the cost / environmental imoact. I love a bath but showers are a must for us.

WrinklyFingers · 08/03/2019 21:45

Yes
We have rented a couple of places without a shower. Both times we requested it be installed before moving in and it was done straight away. I think it's just a necessary modern upgrade.

bathorshower · 08/03/2019 21:47

We lived in a house with a bath but no shower for a few years - we couldn't attach a flexible hose as the mains pressured cold water started backing up into the hot water system (we figured that was bad). The house was quirky in other ways, and not in brilliant condition, but the bathroom was the least modern bit. We paid £400/month less than the typical market rent for the area, about 1/3 off. It did wonders for our savings, and I really appreciate the shower we have now!

In short, it would put me off, but price it right and you'll have takers.

WrinklyFingers · 08/03/2019 21:53

I can't imagine it had be too expensive. Just hire someone to install the shower and also the shower curtain rail

nzborn · 08/03/2019 21:58

l love baths so relaxing.

myidentitymycrisis · 08/03/2019 23:12

Ok it seems like most people would be put off. I was thinking the rent would be reduced to reflect the shower deficit.

I only ever shower so would be a dealbreaker for me
I haven't had a bath since January 2011 (and that was only because I was 17 and had chickenpox).

QuietlyQuaffing · 09/03/2019 00:52

In central London you are going to have tenants queuing up though, so as long as the price is right, I'm sure you will find someone. People compromise on much bigger things to live in central London.

BlueSkiesLies · 09/03/2019 01:06

I would never stent s room that didn’t have access to a shower.

Why not just install one? Cheap and easy job to do to change the taps to ones with a shower and get a curtain (one of the hooped ones if the taps are in the middle).

Better than nothing.

BlueSkiesLies · 09/03/2019 01:07

It will be cheaper to sort a shower out than the discount in rent you’ll have to offer!
