Cheshire living!!!

I am a first time buyer with my husband and we are looking to move towards Cheshire. I’ve seen some lovely houses in Winsford and Fordsham but heard nasty comments about them.
Wilmslow and the like are above our budget at the moment but we are looking for a neighborhood with good schools, pleasant neighbors, a good community etc.

Could anyone give their two cents on where is the next best place to live and their views on winsford? Budget is max £270k and we are after detached houses. Neighborhood and schools are really key for us as we don’t want to be living in areas where there are drug issues, chavs etc.

Winsford isn't very erm, nice

How about Nantwich?

TokyoSushi · 10/01/2019 22:09

I'm from the other side of Cheshire so I couldn't suggest anywhere near there, although Winsford wouldn't be my first choice...

Do you need to be in a particular area?

Millie2014 · 10/01/2019 22:42

Avoid Winsford, for a detached in your budget it could be tight but try Weaverham or Hartford maybe. I know the areas you are looking so feel free to message me privately if you like.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/01/2019 22:53

How about this one in Sandbach?

crimsonlake · 10/01/2019 23:00

How about South Warrington, Appleton, Grappenhall or Stockton Heath, all worth a look.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/01/2019 23:24

And I second Wowser’s suggestion of Nantwich Smile

WildUnknown · 10/01/2019 23:27

Hartford? It's the nice end of Northwich

Also, Davenham

Nantwich is lovely.

hartof · 11/01/2019 12:30

Would you consider a new build? I've visited this new estate and it's lovely - www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/find-your-home/england/cheshire/sandbach/albion-lock/the-aldenham-plot-292

Knittedfairies · 11/01/2019 12:47

I third? fourth? Nantwich. Avoid Winsford.

crimsonlake · 11/01/2019 15:31

Realistically on your budget you will not get a detached in the nicer parts of Cheshire.

CheshireRenovation · 12/01/2019 22:27

Hate to be a killjoy, you'll struggle for a semi in Cheshire at 270k, heald green might be an option for you in Cheadle.

achoocashew · 12/01/2019 22:51

You'll get a decent house for that in Winsford...but, have you ever actually been there?! The high street is horrible, terrible rough nasty shops. There isn't much to do. Go somewhere else.

Steamfan · 12/01/2019 22:59

Another one to say Winsford's not a very nice place

Nothingtothinkof · 12/01/2019 23:03

I grew up in Frodsham and loved it! We now live just outside of Frodsham. I’m not sure you’d get a detached house for your budget now though. One of my best friends lives in Winsford, it really depends on what area of Winford you go for I think xx

Rhica · 12/01/2019 23:33

Do you have a preference for east or west cheshire? Bollington is lovely and cheaper than the likes of Wilmslow. West cheshire tends to be cheaper. Lots of lovely villages near Chester that you should find a decent house for your budget. Saughall/ mickle Trafford for example. Vicars cross /Hoole are a bit more urban. A bit further out neston is quite nice

I’ve never been to winsford and not familiar with Cheshire as I’m from Manchester.

Winsford was only on the list as I saw some fantastic houses but was worries about the location and demographics.

We are 27 and not yet with kids but as soon as a house is bought it’ll be the next step.

Alsager is another ive been looking at. I know beggers cant be choosers but I just want the house we buy to be perfect and I’m so picky. 😭
I wasn’t sure about sandbach and Northwick but looking at some of the comments, maybe I should look at these.
Can anyone comment on primary schools here? Whether they are rated as excellent by parents?

On the whole, we are flexible where in Cheshire we are. The commute from the house needs to be within 20 miles of Altrincham as the OH works there.

I figured Cheshire would be better for schools and living compared to Manchester/Oldham Areas.

Thank you for the responses to far everyone! House hunting is the worst and best 😭

Actually Trafford is highly sought after for schools.

Sorry to rant but how on Earth are you going to buy a perfect detached house in a lovely area with outstanding schools when you are in your late 20s? Our first house was a tiny 3 bed modern build, semi. I would have loved a gorgeous detached mansion. I am 20 years older and we still live in a (bigger, nicer) semi but the garden is much smaller than I'd like. You have to cut your cloth according to your means.

O4FS · 13/01/2019 10:15

What about Stockton Heath? Grappenhall? Lymm?

Faryaal · 13/01/2019 10:50

Everyone has different ranges of income. Just because you couldn’t do it doesn’t mean others with higher income can’t.
And my comment re beggars can’t be choosers, I’m actually lucky to be in the position I am in, just don’t want to spend over £300k at present for a house hence why the comment was made. :)

Will look at those! Thanks!

If your budget is £270k then you can't get whatever you want. To be frank, that's a small budget. You are not going to get a fabulous detached house in a great area with that type of budget. You are dreaming beyond your means. Go for a semi, reign in your expectations. Get whatever you can in the nicest area you can and keep saving for a future upgrade.

TokyoSushi · 13/01/2019 12:11

Look at Warrington, you won't get much detached in the WA4 postcode, Grappenhall, Stockton Heath etc Have a look at WA5, more choice and lots of new builds if that's your thing.
