Cheshire living!!!

I am a first time buyer with my husband and we are looking to move towards Cheshire. I’ve seen some lovely houses in Winsford and Fordsham but heard nasty comments about them.
Wilmslow and the like are above our budget at the moment but we are looking for a neighborhood with good schools, pleasant neighbors, a good community etc.

Could anyone give their two cents on where is the next best place to live and their views on winsford? Budget is max £270k and we are after detached houses. Neighborhood and schools are really key for us as we don’t want to be living in areas where there are drug issues, chavs etc.

@Faryaal Ignore all the posters telling you that you won't be able to get a detached house in your budget in a nice area. You definitely can.

I live in Congleton. There are lots of new builds going up and you can get a brand new detached house in your budget as well as older properties. The schools are good and it's easy to get into Manchester and Altrincham. The traffic can be a bit of a nightmare but they are about to start work on a new relief road which will make a big difference.

Redrow, Jones Homes and Bloor are all building houses on the right side of Congleton for Manchester/Altrincham so you would avoid the worst of the traffic.

Op what I meant was, to get in a nice area it's likely you'll have to compromise. Of course that depends on what "nice" is to you, and what is most important to you. For example we chose the best area but this meant semi and new build. We would have loved a detached house but that would have meant a big compromise on area which we were not prepared to make. Your budget is ok but it's not fabulous.

If a detached house is your most important criteria, then you may have to compromise on area. You can still live somewhere where there are no chavs and drugs (charming extract from your OP) but it's not going to be the most aspirational area.

In the northwest what you are asking for is definitely not unfeasible 😊

Nantwich, Alsager and Sandbach are all great places in South Cheshire. I live on the boarder with Staffordshire and would happily live in any of those places. Schools are good in all areas, lots of building going on in Sandbach and Alsager so they're getting bigger. Nantwich is busy traffic-wise but has more going on than the other two. Happy to answer any Q's you might have.
Good luck with your search! Have you had a drive around and visited some of the places you're considering? It's good to get a feel for a place first.

@Lingelong I live in one of those areas you've mentioned and I wouldn't say Altrincham or Manchester is easily accessible from Congleton - is a good 35 mins to Altrincham or 45/50 mins to Manchester (even without heavy traffic).

Have you looked in Timperley? You won’t get a detached for £270k but could get a 3 bed semi. Trafford has excellent schools and very close to DH work. Urmston could also work for you, still in Trafford for the schools but a bit cheaper. If you want to go further out then Newton-le-Willows is supposed to be nice but I think it’s St Helens/Merseyside rather than Cheshire

Think you will have to compromise on detached if you want a good area. For great schools and within budget Oldfield Brow in Altrincham works. Looks a bit like a council estate (not sure if it is) but very green and not so rough....but great primary there and catchment for great secondaries/grammars and you can walk to Altrincham town centre in 20 minutes. Dunham park and lovely countryside really close by too.
