Neighbours loud sex/soundproofing a shared wall

Anyone has ever soundproofed their wall to cancel their neighbours noise coming through? Did it make any difference? Which product can you recommend? Any advice would be great.
They have loud sex nearly every night, lasting 1-2 hours where she screams all this time. It stops us from sleeping and we’ve started having anxiety issues. Talking to them is not the case as it would only make matters worse.

1-2 hours... every night!?! Surely not!

TwinMummy30 · 08/01/2019 17:55

Trust me! We haven’t slept through a single night in 5 years.

Blimey.

As an aside, we have a neighbour we need to soundproof from too, so I'll be watching with interest.

Weirdlookingbricks · 08/01/2019 17:59

I now someone whose only way round this was to move. SorrySad

Weirdlookingbricks · 08/01/2019 18:00

I know

BentNeckLady · 08/01/2019 18:00

1-2 hours? Are your sure she’s not entertaining several men?

TwinMummy30 · 08/01/2019 18:00

We bought the house 5 years ago, no chances for moving out 😕

Is this the same couple who you posted about a couple of years ago? Have you never said anything about it?

TwinMummy30 · 08/01/2019 18:02

I’m sure she isn’t entertaining several men except for her partner.

Can you move into a different room or move your bed against a different wall? Stupid questions really as I'm sure you've thought of that.

Have you spoken to the noise people at the council?

Have you spoken to your neighbours?

TwinMummy30 · 08/01/2019 18:04

Not sure if I posted anything before about them. Never said anything to them but cannot stand the noise anymore. Anyone with useful advice on how to soundproof the room?

I had this when I lived in a flat but mine was from the girl living underneath me. Totally get how you feel as I used to loath bed times or knowing she was in the flat. The noise was totally unnecessary!
I opted for wearing ear plugs at night and it did drown out the unnecessary groans!

TwinMummy30 · 08/01/2019 18:06

We’ve swapped the room with my kids so at least they can have a good night sleep.

HollowTalk · 08/01/2019 18:06

There's plenty of stuff online about how to soundproof a room because of people playing drums at home.

HollowTalk · 08/01/2019 18:07

I'll call up @PigletJohn to see whether he has any ideas.

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2019 18:07

You posted a couple of years ago about next door having screaming sex in the middle of the day with their patio doors open. I only remember because we had a similar issue with our neighbours whilst living in a noisy terrace.

TwinMummy30 · 08/01/2019 18:08

I’ve found some noise cancelling plaster boards in Wickes but not sure if they would work as there were some mixed reviews.

Have you tried making loud sex noises for a length of time so that she can hear you. She may not realise that she can be heard if you haven't said anything in 5 years.

HollowTalk · 08/01/2019 18:11

I think you'll have to speak to them, OP. It's terrible that they're making such a racket.

Notwhoyouthink35 · 08/01/2019 18:11

Phone the council maybe? I know were I live the council come out and monitor noise at unsociable hours if you contact them.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/01/2019 18:12

I would put on a repeated 'dum dum de dum' ominous music sound the second they start and leave it going for the length of the fucking time

Every time.

mumsastudent · 08/01/2019 18:15

theme from Jaws ...

mumsastudent · 08/01/2019 18:17

or look on line & find recording of lions/lioness - ah - being friendly :)

MoonSafarix · 08/01/2019 18:19

There is some board you can get, ends in bel, or bell. The name of it eludes me right now but you have to leave a cm in between the wall and the board, and the board is 8cm thick so you're going to lose 10cm of space all the way along one wall. I want to do it in my house though as my neighbour wakes me up coughing. THANK God she's not having sex.

Our ndn has a new gf. I sent him the link to Spotify and Lionel Ritchie's all night long!! Text him a reminder we had to be up for work soon and could he move the bed please?
