How much does it cost to remodel a Bathroom?

Hi everyone hope you are all well and very merry Christmas!

Just wanting some advice on getting a new bathroom installed from tiles to bath and shower and sink etc.
I don't want anything particularly fancy.

I've seen 0% interest options about but is that including the Labour or is that just for the bathroom suite?(I heard that some companies have their own trades men to install) and is waste disposal included?

Many Thanks! I don't have a partner to consult about this so any personal experiences and advise would be much appreciated:-)

My old shower cubicle was leaking, it was a crappy old bathroom suite that the previous owner had bodged in himself, the plumbing was frankly awful & however it hadn't leaked before I will never know. I put in a claim on my house insurance as the water had come through the ceiling in my downstairs toilet, the assessor came & had a look, he awarded us money for the damage that the water had done, all the tiling to be replaced as it was obsolete, new flooring & floorboards & a new shower cubicle, we got £3.5k from the insurance company, I found a plumber who got us a B & Q top range p shaped bath, wash basin & toilet at a massive discount direct from the manufacturers, I got a new shower unit from an electrical wholesalers, tiles from B & Q, very plain & had tiling all round the bath to the ceiling, to splashback height behind the toilet & basin, a chrome towel rail radiator, the room replastered, new floorboards & floor covering. Including labour the whole lot cost us £4.2k, he started Monday morning & finished within a week, the flooring went down the following Monday morning, he even replastered the downstairs toilet ceiling. If we had bought the bathroom suite from B & Q it would have cost us at least £2k instead of the £1150 we paid from the manufacturer, if I was doing anything like that again I would use someone who knows if you are are on a tight budget like we were & knows the right places to buy from.

Your bathroom looks great @Calvinsmam
Please explain what cladding is

had 3 quotes for our en suite and downstairs WC:

(costs for labour/materials - we were providing all the tiles/shower parts/fittings etc ourselves)

  1. seemed like a cowboy - £2500. Didn't go with him.
  2. Reputable local firm - £5000. Nearly went with them.
  3. High end plumber - £10k.

We actually went with the high end guy, based on multiple recommendations. Glad we did, work done on time, cleaned up beautifully afterwards, pristine finish to work. Get what you pay for I guess!

It’s just sheets made out of a plastic that goes over the walls instead of tiles.
It’s easier to install and is much cheaper than tiles.
I was adamant I didn’t want it but my dh’s aunty got her bathroom done and it looked great. So we went for it. I’ve had no regrets.

No grout to clean in the shower ❤️

Hello anotherbadavatar! Can I ask where you are based? We are just looking into getting a few builds done a newly bought little Victorian house and it’s all so daunting 😩 I’m equally excited and scared. Calvin your bathroom looks lovely and the person who said that sounds a bit nasty, not nice!

We had bathroom put into a box room so all plumbing had to be put in , new floor etc. Different lights, built in cupboard. Including bathroom furniture/tiles and paint we didn't get much change out of 7K (London). Worth every penny.

I read "ballroom" instead of "bathroom". Too much Xmas cheer?Xmas Blush

We’re having an ensuite as part of an extension. The quote for the ensuite is £1200 but there will be a few hundred extra each from the plumbing and electrics quote and we’ll need flooring but it should come in just under 2k I think.

Same guy fitted a shower in utility room earlier this year where there wasn’t one previously, that was £680. South coast.

BarbieV7 · 20/12/2018 07:08

We are in London too, would you recommend your guys? I found a few different tradesmen on rated people. Some seemed good and others not so much. We need new bathroom, fireplaces, floors, kitchen and plastering. I’m tempted to get different tradesmen for each job instead of one team to do it all...

BarbieV7 · 20/12/2018 07:10

That sounds great, do you love it? I’m happy to spend a reasonable amount I just want to know I’m not getting ripped off and want the job to be done well. It’s hard knowing who to trust if it isn’t someone recommended 🤯

How longs a piece of string??? So many options it's hard to price but as a guide, a normal size bathroom takes a week and labour is typically £150 a day in my city (will be higher in London I expect), so add the cost of your chosen suite, the taps, plug holes, the flooring and the tiles, the glues, grout, paint and any plumbing fixtures eg new radiator and you can get a rough idea. Look at Plumb Centre for prices as that's a good ball park figure and decent range of options. Ours, quite large, was just shy of £2000 for the materials and it cost us food for the week and a fancy dinner out (dad's a plumber!) - we did the painting ourselves though, use proper bathroom paint to stop mild

I’m desperate to get mine done but not sure if I can justify it yet. I think the previous owners did it themselves to sell as it looked lovely when we bought 3 years ago but it has not done well because the extractor fan is too weak and there are a million bloody mosaic tiles that have manky grouting.

AndWhat · 24/12/2018 10:03

Ours was £1500. We did all the prep ourselves, paid a local Plummer £100 to disconnect the old suite, plasterer/tiler was £300 to skim walls and tile behind sink and around shower cubicle.
Our sink and vanity unit and tiles were b and q sale items, tap from eBay and shower and cubicle from amazon, toilet from b and q aswell. (£700 total)
Then paid the Plummer to come back and fit everything £200.
Last £200 was on paint, blinds and accessories.
The quality of the amazon and eBay stuff is really good and half the price, just check the reviews, and do any of the prep work yourself if you can.
