How much does it cost to remodel a Bathroom?

Michikomei · 09/12/2018 20:02

Hi everyone hope you are all well and very merry Christmas!

Just wanting some advice on getting a new bathroom installed from tiles to bath and shower and sink etc.
I don't want anything particularly fancy.

I've seen 0% interest options about but is that including the Labour or is that just for the bathroom suite?(I heard that some companies have their own trades men to install) and is waste disposal included?

Many Thanks! I don't have a partner to consult about this so any personal experiences and advise would be much appreciated:-)

No, Calvinsmum, the £20k idiot is the rude one.

PickAChew · 10/12/2018 23:54

Sorry, Calvin n, it's bubbles that was rude.

I need bed.

But, yeah, we have 2 bathrooms in our house, one desperately needs replacing and the other will soon. Not even paying 20k for both as that is almost 10% of what we paid for the house.

Your bathroom looks clean and functional and I envy the space as both of our bathrooms are tiny.

Calvinsmam · 10/12/2018 23:58

I only posted it because people asked to see what the cladding was like.

We don’t have heaps of money but needed a new bathroom. It’s very expensive to get a new bathroom and actually the difference between 3k and 5k is a lot of money for lots of people.

Youngandfree · 11/12/2018 00:04

We bought a lot of our bathroom suites and taps etc from Victoria Plum and Victorian plumbing. There’s loads of website that have waaay better prices than b&q or wickes!!

DropZoneOne · 11/12/2018 00:06

I paid not much less than £10k for hours, inckuding fitting through Wickes. This came in quite handy when their first fitter subcontracted it and ballsed up. They agreed (after a bit of to and fro) to pull the whole lot out and start again. Second guy and his team were amazing.

I did go for whizzy stuff though - the designer said a fully installed bathroom would usually be £5-£7k ... but i added on power shower with pump, underfloor heating, moving some electrics and sparkley tiles.

In contrast, my dad helped replace our standard suite in our old flat (new sink and loo, bath was fine so that stayed, new taps and shower screen), i put down lino and we got a tiler in to do one wall with simple white B&Q tiles, and it was less than £1.5k

HappyGoLuckyGo · 11/12/2018 00:09

@Calvinsmam, it looks great! Hope you’re enjoying your fresh new space :)

GreyCloudsToday · 11/12/2018 00:13

Jeez we just got 2 quotes for £5k plus VAT labour only in London which seems absolutely loads . The bathroom is tiny.

Calvinsmam · 11/12/2018 00:14

I am, you can’t see in the picture but there’s a stand alone shower too and the cladding has made my life so so much easier for cleaning. You don’t really have to do anything with them whereas before I felt I was forever cleaning between the tiles in the shower.

It obviously doesn’t look as swish as tiles but you have to cut your cloth and I think it looks nice.

flossietoot · 11/12/2018 00:14

I think it’s Bubbles who has been incredibly rude and nasty. What a shitty thing to say on an innocuous thread. Why be nasty for the hell of it??

Adversecamber22 · 11/12/2018 00:20

We paid 7.5k for an entire refit, including an Amazon rainfall shower which upped the price, we are in The Midlands.

Iloveautumnleaves · 11/12/2018 00:57

I think ours was £7,000..I’m just struggling to figure out quite how.

It’s small, I couldn’t move a wall I was told I could - which was really frustrating.

I also bought tiles I loved, and tiled 3/4 of the bathroom. They weren’t madly expensive, but it all adds up, The Aqualisa shower was expensive, The vanity was £700. The bath has the carronite spray on it to strengthen it & retain heat. It’s a big bath. Yadda yadda

The bath is the Quantum from Eastbrook with carronite coating £585+VAT. They have a similar looking one,, in a standard size & without the coating for £200+VAT. That’s how it adds up.

I definitely didn’t ‘go mad’ - at all, I could easily have spent double without trying. However, equally it could be done much cheaper. It really just depends whether you want to save for longer to have more options, or whether you just want to get a nice, clean, bathroom NOW.

HexagonalBattenburg · 11/12/2018 13:21

Paid a tiny bit over £5k in the midlands at the start of this year. Fully tiled 1980s monstrosity back to fully tiled (so most of the wall plaster came down with the tiling and had to be re-plastered), everything replaced, new flooring, storage included and shower over bath (the layout doesn't work well with them separate in our house). Nothing being moved around massively layoutwise which kept things down a bit. Access difficult so had to take all waste off site to put into their own skips rather than keeping a skip at our house and going straight into that which added to the cost a little bit more.

Independent place did it for us for pretty much bang-on £5k - B+Q and the like were quoting between 7k and 9k.

I should point out that the cladding is in the ensuite and it looks like new.

The tiling in the main bathroom though, oh dear. It was done at the same time but as a DIY job by my Dad. Needs to be replaced.

Thanks for all the information all.

reetgood · 11/12/2018 13:44

We paid just over £5k last year. We’re in Yorkshire. Cost included:

Labour
New bathroom suite
Board and skim (we did half the demo, they did plumbing and took back to the brick)
Tiling (shower surround and floor)
Tiles
Shower
Bathroom cabinet
Electric underfloor heating

We bought the suite, taps, cabinet tiles. The visible stuff! Builder did fittings and underfloor heating.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 11/12/2018 13:46

We've just paid just under £4k for an decent sized guest ensuite. New shower, loo, sink with vanity, towel rad, half tiled (except the shower is full, obviously) and new floor. This included all parts and fitting, plus the untiled walls being painted.

When we do the main family bathroom next year it will cost around double that, because (with it being a family rather than guest space, therefore getting more frequent use) we've gone for a much higher spec, and there's some additional building work required too.

We're in the South East.

FestiveForestieraNoel · 11/12/2018 13:53

Actually our bathroom is so small it would be more accurately called a cubicle. The loo is beside the bath and the wash basin juts out of the wall just in front of the loo. Grin

Autumnsunrise · 11/12/2018 13:58

I will be paying just under 5k if my builder ever finishes the job Hmm

flirtygirl · 11/12/2018 19:56

I'm paying 1800 labour and bought all fittings myself. I got high quality fittings either on sale or new from ebay.

This is a refit with a few pipes moving, electrics added for mirror and getting rid of the pull cord and putting switch outside door. Tiling covering 3/4 and glass bath screen. I'm going to have the bath insulated so it stays warmer for longer and have planned lots of storage. I had under floor heating before but won't this time as found luxury vinyl that looks beautiful and not as cold as tiles.

Can't wait and won't move into house until it's finished. House is a wreck but having a decent bathroom is a necessity for me.

And Calvinsmum , your bathroom is lovely.

90mammasophie · 11/12/2018 20:03

We have a medium sized bathroom. Fully tiled and fitted out with glass shower, bath, floating basin, loo with hidden system, spot lights, cabinets, Victorian style radiator. Good quality but not particularly high end.
All the fittings and tiles etc came to £7K (with January sale items) and the builders work cost £2,600. We stripped the old bathroom out ourselves do that wasn't included in cost.
We had to get rid of all the rubbish / old stuff.

Honeyroar · 11/12/2018 21:51

Thanks for posting that Calvinsmum, it looks great.
