GLASS IN WASHING MACHINE - HELP!!!!!

Dc with a vomiting bug puked all over their clothes and mine. I stripped everything off and chucked it in the washing machine. However, I forgot to check pockets in the middle of this, and forgot there was a bottle of olbus oil in one of mine. Needless to say it broke in the wash. When I opened the door there were various pieces which I've removed (large and small), but I'm concerned there will be shards remaining.
My concerns:

  1. Remaining shards could enter clothes in subsequent washes and cause injury to wearing clothes
2. Remaining shards could damage washing machine

I have googled what to do, but a lot of responses all seem concerned with damage to the clothes that have been in the wash already. However that is not my primary concern.

Can anyone advise, what should I go?????

Shamelessly adding more comments to my own thread to try and up views so it is visible on list of "active" threads.

It is an LG washing machine.

I’d check the filter and clean it out, then run a rinse programme and check the filter again.
Carefully ironing the affected clothes is about all you can do. I hope no one is harmed and DC gets better soon.

desperateforsleep2 · 28/11/2018 10:44

Clothes are loaded through a door at the front of the machine (not the top).

No idea but bumping for you!

desperateforsleep2 · 28/11/2018 10:45

I'm not sure if there is a filter? Or if I can access it? Will post a pic of it now to see if anyone could point me in the right direction to try and find it.

The filter is usually contained in a little hatch at the bottom of the machine. You'll need to open the hatch & unscrew. Have a towel handy as a little water may come out.

The little door on the bottom right Smile

Tartpop · 28/11/2018 10:52

Find a local appliance repair place and ask for their advice maybe?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 28/11/2018 10:53

There'll then be something like this that you unscrew, that's the filter.

Is there any other name that the hatch might be called?

I've tried opening it, but it seems firmly "shut"/stuck.

I've just googled how to open hatch of lg washing machine but it just brings up youtube videos and discussions of how to open a DOOR that is stuck shut, so just wondering if I need to use a different name for the hatch?

OP posts:
desperateforsleep2 · 28/11/2018 10:56

Progress, I've opened the "hatch"

A LOT of water may come out!

stayathomegardener · 28/11/2018 11:01

Get a bucket and sponge ready and crack it open a bit at a time as you mop.

pickingdaisies · 28/11/2018 11:03

Can you see if there's a lid inside the tube thingy that will unscrew? Warning, you may get gush of dirty water when you turn it.

Nesssie · 28/11/2018 11:04

Have no idea the proper procedure, but I would:

Clean the filter as suggested above.
Wipe thoroughly the inside, drum etc
Stick an old towel/rag in the machine and run on a cycle.
Clean the filter and wipe drum again.
Check towel for any signs of glass- if yes, repeat.
If no, assume OK but maybe check clothes for a few washes to make absolutely certain.

pickingdaisies · 28/11/2018 11:04

Also, check carefully in and around the door seal, it's amazing what can hide in the folds.

desperateforsleep2 · 28/11/2018 11:05

Thank you!

I've unscrewed that thing, water came out, there was just a bit of fluff inside. I guess I just give it a quick wipe, rescrew filter cap on, and close the hatch up?
Q1. If there is no glass here, is this a good thing? I'm just wondering if it is possible glass could have gone anywhere else? Or do I work on the premise that any glass shards etc small enough to fit through the holes in the drum would end up down here in the filter?

Q2. I did see on another website to HOOVER out the inside of the drum!!!! Is this advisable? Surely there is a risk of electrocution? (I am NOT DIY savvy). Machine is plumbed in at the wall at the back.

Door seal - good idea
???shards here would also actually cause damage by ripping/tearing the seal?
