Neighbors and the sky dish

saffyBoo · 24/11/2018 12:12

My new neighbor put her sky dish on my external wall. Its hard to explain but it's my property and the wall is my sons bedroom that separates his bedroom and her balcony if that makes sense. I called sky and they said she should have asked my permission but she didn't. It's my property ultimately but the wall is the left wall on her balcony. Any advice? X

Does it actually affect you now? (Apart from the drilling noises while it was installed.) Once up they don’t have any impact on the inside.

I can see it’s annoying that she didn’t ask but it probably didn’t even occur to her that it’s your space on the other side.

mummmy2017 · 24/11/2018 12:25

Does this hurt you.... No.
Get her to put it in writing that should you move and the new owner wants it to be roved it will be at her expense...
Job done.

Is that all sky said?

I had a Sky engineer knock on my door about a month ago to ask if he could walk on my drive to install a dish on my neighbours house.

Kewqueue · 24/11/2018 12:29

If it's on your wall, ask her to move it.

keepingbees · 24/11/2018 12:30

I'm surprised the sky engineer didn't ask permission. Is it rented or your property and is it a problem to you?

ZenNudist · 24/11/2018 13:27

Ask her to remove it and make good any damage.

MessySurfaces · 24/11/2018 13:33

If it's the left wall of her balcony are you sure it's not a party wall?
In any case, is it causing a problem?

SassitudeandSparkle · 24/11/2018 13:34

Is the dish inside her balcony then? I'm trying to imagine the setup here, one side of the wall is an interior wall for you and the other side is an exterior wall inside her balcony?

MrsGollach · 24/11/2018 13:40

People are so rude. It needs to be removed.

I’m visualising a block of flats with recessed balconies off living rooms & bedrooms alongside, in which case the neighbouring wall would be the only place for a satellite dish.

Still should have asked though.

GiantKitten · 24/11/2018 13:57

Neighbouring wall when S-facing I mean (in which case neighbour’s own adjoining bedroom wall would be N-facing & no use).

kenandbarbie · 24/11/2018 13:57

Why do you mind?

PoisonousSmurf · 24/11/2018 13:59

Is it making your house look 'common'? Biscuit

MrsGollach · 24/11/2018 14:16

@PoisonousSmurf...what's your issue?? It does make houses look *ugly, so why should OP have that monstrosity stuck on her house.

*some would say common

Joinourclub · 24/11/2018 15:00

If the wall fronts on to her balcony , how sure are you that it is your property and not a party wall?

wowfudge · 24/11/2018 15:52

To those people asking is the OP affected: yes she is. Nothing should be affixed to her property without her permission. No doubt it was easier for the Sky fitter and suits the neighbour better for some reason. That does make it acceptable. Give them 7 days to remove it and re-site it on her property.

wowfudge · 24/11/2018 17:33

Doesn't!

PositivelyPERF · 24/11/2018 17:38

Phone sky back and DEMAND that they remove it. Do not let it stay on your wall as you will be giving her ‘permission’, by leaving it. Fuck all that ‘is it bothering you, what’s the problem, etc’! She’s a cheeky fucker.

SassitudeandSparkle · 24/11/2018 18:00

but the wall is the left wall on her balcony.

If it is part of her balcony, surely she should be able to use the wall?

GiantKitten · 24/11/2018 18:17

I agree, Sassitude.

She should have asked first though.

saffyBoo · 24/11/2018 18:23

I'm.not affected by it but it's on MY property without my permission! Plus it's right next to my son's bed so yeah I dunno if it's going to cause any issues. We've had damp on that particular wall so I'm worried about things being drilled and attached to it. I honestly never thought about making my house look "common" it never crossed my mind. I'm more annoyed she didn't ask me.

What’s the building’s construction, saffy? Is it cavity walls?

Shadowboy · 24/11/2018 19:06

I’d be pretty miffed too. On principle I’d get Sky to remove it. I don’t watch Sky so why should I put up with the ugly dish on my property would be my point of view

keepingbees · 24/11/2018 19:36

Check your deeds/tenancy agreement it may state that you can't place a satellite dish on the property. If so, ask Sky to remove it for that reason.

Findingdotty · 24/11/2018 19:43

I would probably try making a fuss with Sky. Social media fuss often works. Might be worth a try.
