Please can I see your hallway flooring?

I'm really stuck for hallway flooring ideas. Pinterest is full of very grand hallways, whereas we live in a pretty typical 1980s 4 bed with a reasonably sized, but certainly not massive, entranceway. I also feel like I've never noticed what anyone has in their hallways in similar houses! We have a wooden floor in the kitchen (oak)so are looking for something different. Could go for tiles, vinyl or karndean type material, it's more the design I'm searching for inspiration for. Walls will be pale grey.

So, would anyone be kind enough to share a photo of their hallway?! Thanks so much in advance.

Why have something different? We have white floorboards throughout ground floor. Nice to have continuity!

Good point. Not sure if we can afford it though... Any other thoughts?

Here's ours.. We had parquet put down in hall through to the living room, and I love it!

Wow alifelessordinary I love that parquet floor, I Would love that. Was it mega-bucks though

Not at home so can't post pic but we have a grey vinyl down in a wood effect pattern. I love just hoovering and swishing the mop over it. Especially as shoe shelf drops mud through it.

PickAChew · 23/11/2018 20:01

Uninspiring. And the doormat needs a wash after the filthy weather of the past week.

We've also got parquet. It was there originally though. Just had it stained.

Urgh yes it did - sorry!

We went with tiles. I wanted wooden flooring but so pleased with the result.

Ours go through to the kitchen / diner (past the door at the end) so look nice throughout.

Stunning parquet

nonwonderwoman · 23/11/2018 20:36

We have karndean in Hall which runs through to kitchen / diner. It's nice to have continuity.

I like this to go with grey, fitted well and it would last a long time, easy to clean, warm and would go with other colours if you change the paint work

It mashed our tiler’s head @Labradoodliedoodoo He has to keep checking the pattern.

So helpful - thank you! Some lovely hallways! Anyone else gone with tiles or tile effect? I think that's what I find harder to picture in my head. I love the tiles Ivy has linked and have seen some lovely Laura Ashley designs in a similar vein but can you get away with them in a 1980s house? Also, do people find tiles cold underfoot? Tempted by Karndean - both their wood and stone designs look so realistic. Am taking on board what people have said about continuity too, something else to consider!

We have black and white tile and it looks lovely but is the bane of my life. Nightmare to keep clean, cold and unwelcoming. Can't wait to change it.

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · 23/11/2018 21:34

We have amtico oak effect across whole of downstairs. 11 years later. Looks like new even around wet areas where wood would rot.

Hoover and steam mop. Brilliant.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/11/2018 21:37

Minton Tiles but they did come with the house Smile

blueberrygoose · 23/11/2018 21:46

I like the herring bone flooring. I've just had my kitchen tiles and it's so cold now, in some ways I wish I continued the wood throughout the ground floor Confused

MrsLettuce · 23/11/2018 21:54

We have big slate tiles that came with the house, 50x50 I think. Dark grouting. There's a recess for a doormat inside the door to the full width of the hall (maybe 120cm?).

It looks great and it's hugely practical.

We moved here from exactly the same sort house (having rented one and loved it). The one we rented had The same hall set right down to the recessed mat, there the tiles were a dark semi-matte charcoal. The halls honestly couldn't be more similar. I was ambivalent about the old floor but the slate is beautiful, 1000x nicer both to look at and to use Confused Both as practical as each other, obviously.

babysharkah · 23/11/2018 22:49

I have exactly the same as @nonwonderwoman. I wanted original Victorian tikes bit this was far more practical!

alifelessordinary · 23/11/2018 23:16

@user147 it wasn't cheap unfortunately, think it cost about 4k for hallway and lounge Shock

alifelessordinary · 23/11/2018 23:19

@theresahairbrushinthefridge I've heard the amtico range is really good, especially the wood effect ones.
That's the only downside of having real wood, I'm always worried about dropping anything on it and denting it!

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · 24/11/2018 09:55

We have amtico spacia which is cheaper. Has worked brilliantly for us. Also have the large full width recessed door mat.

We have a very busy house. It was very expensive to start with but works brilliantly for us.

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · 24/11/2018 09:56

Should say. We have light oak. Everyone thinks it's wood
