Hi, all our rentals have included hoovers and now we’re buying a house I’m clueless! We have a golden retriever who sheds a fair bit, but we have a limited budget so really need good value for money. If anyone has recently bought one and would care to share knowledge I’d be so grateful!! Thanks!!

You are rather limiting yourself by sticking to one brand. Does it have to be a hoover?

Christmascookiesmmmm · 03/11/2018 19:35

Sorry I just mean any vacuum cleaner- I just always call them hoovers !

I’d go Miele - the base model will be fine. It’s not bagless, so you do need to allow for that.

I swapped a Dyson for the Miele. No way would I ever consider a Dyson again. Dyson fell apart in a couple of years, my basic Miele is about 12 yrs old and still going strong.

Miele

wowfudge · 04/11/2018 06:41

Sebo - works brilliantly on all floor types, easy to change bags, etc and every component can be replaced if necessary meaning they last for years and years.

Yogagirl123 · 04/11/2018 06:44

My advice would be a cordless, bag less vacuum. I have two, a GTech air ram downstairs, and a cheaper cordless vacuum for upstairs. Works well for me.

TeamEponine · 04/11/2018 06:54

Miele for certain. We got one recently and it's amazing. You can get quite good deals on Amazon.

Henry. I replaced my dyson with my Henry 5 years ago, i have 3dc and 2 dogs. The only fault is its manouverability, but quite frankly i forgive him this fault as he is superb. Not even my builders could break him and they hoovered up all manner of crap everyday for 5 months when i was having my extention built. Biggest bonus is that he is relatively cheap compared to lots of other brands, but does a better job.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/11/2018 07:18

Shark LiftAway. You can get a pet one, we have the 'normal' one if you like. It's the best hoover we've ever had and will never go back to Dyson, which is what we had before. If you look on the Shark website, or sometimes QVC, they very often let you pay in 3 or 4 monthly instalments.

Kintan · 04/11/2018 07:23

We have a Henry and it’s the biggest purchase regret we have. It’s a decent enough hoover but the manoeuvreability is awful. If there is any obstacle no matter how small to get stuck on it will! I think they are great for offices where there are big stretches of carpets to vacuum but in a house it is soo frustrating!

bobkate · 04/11/2018 09:07

I got a sebo about 6 years ago and have hated it from day 1 Grin
I find it heavy, awkward, especially trying to do the stairs and it falls over really easily. I'm trying to kill it with brick dust. Failing that I will pass it on when we're done extending and get myself a different brand. Looking at the shark pet ones.

beanaseireann · 04/11/2018 09:49

Miele cat and dog.

dontticklethetoad · 04/11/2018 09:51

kizkiz you know perfectly well what the op meant...

flugelhorn81 · 04/11/2018 09:52

@dontticklethetoad you got there before me. Tedious...

iamme21 · 04/11/2018 09:55

Shark liftaway, best vacuum I’ve ever had

BlueGlasses · 04/11/2018 10:07

Shark liftaway. I would highly recommend and shark have a scheme on their website where you can pay for it over 4 interest free monthly payments which makes it affordable.

SushiMonster · 04/11/2018 10:15

Mile cat and dog if you have a sheddy dog!

autumnleaves1234 · 04/11/2018 11:52

I like my Debo. It’s about three years old and have had dysons before that I hated.
Yes as someone says it’s always falling over which is a draw back but I find it works well

autumnleaves1234 · 04/11/2018 11:52

Sebo even

agedknees · 04/11/2018 16:14

Shark lift away. Best hoover I have ever had.

ijustwantasofa · 04/11/2018 16:27

Miele - the almost silent one! Got the best scores on Which and I wouldn't go back to an upright again.

ihatetosay · 04/11/2018 17:21

Miele mine has a 10 year guarantee

lll77 · 04/11/2018 18:05

agree about Henry being really hard to manoeuvre.

I have one and it cleans well and seems to be indestructible, but its so annoying to use in my tall Victorian house especially on stairs and around furniture. I swear at it everytime I use it and am about to ditch it and buy a Sebo instead.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/11/2018 18:20

We used to have a Dson which lasted for 5 years. When It died earlier this year I asked advice on here and a Shark Liftaway was recommended, so that's what we got. Bloody brilliant, I would thoroughly recommend it.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/11/2018 18:21

Best I've ever had (ooh er) is a Henry. He's always smiling, got a strong suck and all his bits are cheap and almost indestructible 😉
