A slight name change for me, as I'm clearly not moving this year. Hmm Well, I am, but not into the house I'm buying.

Went to the development today, had a chat with the girls in the office & updated them. Hopefully we will be exchanging contracts next week should all go to plan. We found a nice house to rent, but its so bloody expensive I'm petrified! As long as we complete within our 6 month rental contract then all will be well, but if we don't then things will get ridiculously expensive! Confused

@WitchDancer I've logged a complaint with NPower so hopefully so. I could understand if we had actually exchanged but I don't see how someone can just switch your supplier without you knowing. I've also got in touch with the EA and asked him to get her to contact the new supplier and explain what's happened. I just don't understand why you would sort something like that so far from completion

WitchDancer · 28/12/2018 23:55

🤞 for getting it sorted. Talk about jumping the gun!

sandybayley · 29/12/2018 11:43

@Ramsey1989 - good luck with the old lady viewing. She sounds like she could be promising and I think if she offered she might mean it - is that terribly ageist of me?

Just waiting for the Estate Agents to open on the 2nd so we can get going on negotiating for the two houses (A and B) we like. We haven't heard back about the offer we put in on B before Christmas but are definitely expecting a 'no' as it was a low offer. DH seems to be a bit more realistic about what we will need to pay to secure one of the two houses so I'm feeling quite positive. We hope that if House A know we're bidding on House B they will engage with us (they've just rebuffed offers to date).

We are hoping to view another house as well but it's in a slightly different area we hadn't considered so I'm not sure. It's very close to the Thames (but not so close as to flood!) so would be lovely for dog walking.

Ramsey1989 · 29/12/2018 12:44

@sandybayley Good luck with the offers; are none of the agents involved open? Mine were 27th/28th and will be on 31st too.

Im working on keeping house clean for Wednesday; seems ages away, and i cannot be bothered to take christmas tree down before the viewing.

@SallyCinnamon3009 its stupid that they can switch before energy suppliers before even owning the house; however i know how easy it is because i switched my mums the other day on Uswitch, all you need is the address and your existing supplier names and they just let you fo it! Quite bad really...

sandybayley · 29/12/2018 12:46

@Ramsey1989 - the two agents involved are shut until the 2nd. I know some others are open though as I've had various 'you must look at this house' emails this morning!

Ramsey1989 · 29/12/2018 12:52

@sandybayley Thats a pain, all the waiting annoys me as im not very patient but i keep telling myself that i cant do anything with an offer before 2nd January anyway because solicitors arent open - so really doesnt matter that old lady isnt viewing again till Wednesday.

We have a few get togethers/ new years events between now and then; so hopefully it will come round quick enough, at least the christmas period gave us all a rest from it all albeit a short one.

sandybayley · 29/12/2018 13:10

Ah! Just got email from one of the EAs asking if we are 'interested' - he hadn't seen the offer DH sent on 21 December. Rubbish!

Ramsey1989 · 29/12/2018 13:23

@sandybayley Oh dear! Thats really annoying but i guess a lot of agents shut early so pergaos they wernt in in 21st.

Hopefully you will get an answer to the offer now!

Ramsey1989 · 29/12/2018 13:25

*perhaps, sorry im one of those young people that just isnt great with a touchscreen phone (had little crappy one with no internet for about 10 years, so missed learning the new tech).

MovingNextYearHopefully · 29/12/2018 19:40

Frustrating your offer wasn't put forward Sandy Shows the incompetence you are dealing with.. Xmas Confused At least now you know why there was no response. Any EA closed that long over Christmas are going to need a LOT of pushing unfortunately!

I think that in your situation I would probably take the decorations & tree down the day before the second viewing Ramsey. Remember how large the house seems once the tree is down? Xmas Wink This is what you want your viewer to see. Maximum space. Everything crossed.

Happy Xmas all ! Just rejoining after a bit of a break. Still waiting for our sale to go through. Valuation happened just before Xmas so we will be waiting to hear how things are progressing once the solicitors reopen.
We decided not to view any more houses until we have exchanged because we will be in a much better position. Will sign a new 6 month contract on our rental and hopefully it will all align!
Dreading starting to look at houses again...

Jem01 · 30/12/2018 15:37

Hello, haven't posted in a while as didn't have much to update but just before Christmas and 24 viewings later (out of those 24, 2 were second viewings) we got an offer on our house Xmas Smile. Looking forward to
January and when estate agents reopen so we can continue our search for our new house.

Ramsey1989 · 30/12/2018 16:10

@MovingNextYearHopefully I've taken your advice and the christmas tree is down!

She only saw the house with it up so hopefully she will be suprised with the extra room thats appeared (it isnt a small tree!) when she views again on wednesday.

Ramsey1989 · 02/01/2019 10:24

@TiddleTaddleTat Hope your sale goes through alright, now that solicitors etc are finally open again!

TokyoSushi · 02/01/2019 10:55

Good luck everyone! I've given our solicitors an hour to get comfortable and have just sent my first chasing email - we can do this! I've only been waiting since August

WitchDancer · 02/01/2019 16:46

Our sellers aren't back from their holiday until 5th so I need to sit on my hands for just a bit longer 😔

Ramsey1989 · 02/01/2019 17:07

@TokyoSushi Hope you got an update from solicitors.

Well 2nd viewing with nice old lady went well today; she brought her friend and daughter, however said she will let us know by the weekend.

So more waiting....

TokyoSushi · 02/01/2019 17:24

We're really, nearly there! Literally just waiting for the amended copy of the lease which I paid £3.5K for this morning and we're done! Cross everything!

WitchDancer · 02/01/2019 19:12

Whoop whoop Tokyo, sounds promising.

Everything crossed for you Ramsey

Ramsey1989 · 02/01/2019 19:30

@TokyoSushi thats great news!

@WitchDancer Thanks, hope all goes well when your sellers are back on 5th.

Really sick of all the waiting; annoying the offer we did get before christmas was from an incomplete chain, and even if his buyer gets a buyer i dont think its a good one to get into as any number of things could go wrong there.

Perhaps i will hiberbate for two days and see what news we get.

MovingNextYearHopefully · 04/01/2019 16:31

Happy new year everyone! Glad to see some progression. Hopefully some good news to follow. Fingers crossed the old lady makes an offer Ramsey. Really positive that she brought her friend & daughter too.

Nothing happening our end. Don't think the builders go back until next week. We have been to the sales office & queried a few things to do with the boundaries which seem to be wrong. Hopefully that can be sorted out. Had a bit of a surprise a few days ago. I had a payment into my current account from our old mortgage provider. It was basically a refund of the last months payment. It is enough to cover a weeks rent at our short let, so really helpful. Grin Any extra money is helpful because we are spending a fortune at the moment. I haven't been well so DH has just been getting expensive takeaways every night or going to the pub. Then he'll moan about how much rent we have to pay & not want to eat into his savings. Hmm Bloody men!

MovingThisYearDefinitely · 04/01/2019 16:34

Thats a more appropriate username for me lol. Grin

WitchDancer · 04/01/2019 17:12

What a bonus, the refund. I definitely like the new name 😁

sandybayley · 04/01/2019 17:58

Checking back in. We've put another offer in on House A - 6% under asking price so a serious offer. It's our third offer but the other two were cheeky. We've told them it is on the table until Monday and then we'll make the same offer to House B. Both are on for the same price and are round the corner from each other. I marginally prefer House A but would be happy with House B.

We could go up a bit more (another £25k) but DS has said that will be our limit and after that we would have to walk away. Nail biting stuff! I'm too emotional about it so need to defer to him .

With nothing new coming onto the market we did go and view in an adjacent area last night but came to the conclusion that we know the area we like and the type of house we want (not terraced!) so need to keep looking.

MovingThisYearDefinitely · 04/01/2019 18:36

Soo exciting Sandy. I hope you get some news soon. One thing that would sway me between houses is chain length. Have you been given any info on the vendors positions at all? I know what you mean about buying in the area you know. I moved here 7 years ago & only just feel like I am getting to know it now. We were also considering a wide area because of how little was available, but are very happy that we have ended up being able to buy within 2 miles of our old house. Grin
