Driveway used by neighbours as a drop of zone for friends/work

Hi,

The title says it all really. My neighbours have two cars, both cars block off the area outside of their house. I have a double drive and it gets used as a drop area for children (they run a business from home). I have a child myself so before anyone suggests I hate kids it’s not that Grin I just find it quite annoying and a bit disrespectful if I’m going to be honest. It’s happened roughly 3 times already today.

I’ve lived here for two years now and not made a big deal of it. I’ve said something in passing that the parents don’t use my drive and my neighbour was understanding but it continues. Sometimes the parents drop off the kids and leave, but the vast majority of the time they stop and chat 😝

Before anyone thinks I’m being petty, there is a pretty big parking space the parents can use directly outside my house and opposite my house which they can use. They just don’t want to walk an extra 10 steps so use my drive.

Not sure if I’m being petty, but I do find it quite annoying.

Any ideas what to do?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/11/2018 15:13

Not sure of your layout, but can you use the penguin bollards to restrict access?

Nanasueathome · 01/11/2018 15:13

You know the rules......we need a diagram

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/11/2018 15:13

Great minds Grin

Cherryblossom200 · 01/11/2018 15:14

Rules? I’ve never been on here before Shock I don’t have a diagram. Ok off to google penguin bollard ....

Go round there when you can catch a parent and the neighbour at the same time and be clear that it’s not acceptable.

Cherryblossom200 · 01/11/2018 15:16

OMG that’s hilarious I would be the laughing stock of the road if I stuck those outside of my property! They just park on the dropped curve

MN rules ....................

Draw a diagram

With coloured pencils and labels showing where is where etc

Noooo too late the penguin bollards will haunt your browser for weeks now. A sign asking people not to block the driveway and popping out regularly to ask them to move along a bit. Occasionally needing to pop out when they are there and beeping horn plus a word with the neighbours. Is the company legal and is there anything in the deeds about running a business from home?

VelociraptorRex · 01/11/2018 15:21

OP as pp have said we need a diagram, thems the rules!

SubtitlesOn · 01/11/2018 15:22

Are they childminders?

Cherryblossom200 · 01/11/2018 15:24

Ring the Council and ask if they have a licence...
Put a few cones there for now.

Cherryblossom200 · 01/11/2018 15:25

No the lady is a teacher...

Chain across your driveway.

VelociraptorRex · 01/11/2018 15:27

Nice diagram! Can you park there to stop them?

SpottingTheZebras · 01/11/2018 15:27

Can you just park your car there for a bit to make the point?

Tinkerbellx · 01/11/2018 15:27

Why don't you just go out next time and tap on the windrow .
Politely request they refrain from using your property to drive their car onto .
ESP if you have dc you would hope they'd be safe on your own drive from regular cars passing through it's not a public throughway or car park .
You don't need to give a reason through when you ask as it's your drive fgs . You dont need a reason .
Good luck .

Tinkerbellx · 01/11/2018 15:29

Sorry just seen your drawing .
It seems from that they aren't actually on your drive just on the pavement at the end ? In which case they arent stopping there and blocking anyone in just dropping off on public property ?

Cherryblossom200 · 01/11/2018 15:33

Yes they are on the dropped curve directly off the drive way, which still blocks my access. I just don’t see why they can park on the actual area to the left of my property which is meant for parking.

They are blocking the exit of OP's drive. I would talk to the neighbours again You need an elderly uncle Bunbury who you need to go to regularly if he has falls and just keep asking them to move.

mrsm43s · 01/11/2018 15:37

From the diagram, it looks as though they're not parking on your drive, but on the dropped kerb outside your house (so the council owned pavement). Whilst its not ideal, and they shouldn't really be doing it, I'm not really sure why it annoys you if they are just dropping off. Unless you are actually attempting to get on/off your drive at the time, then it doesn't impact you at all does it? Or have I missed something?

SoupDragon · 01/11/2018 15:38

TBH, if it wasn't blocking me from going out at any point I wojld quietly seethe about it but not say anything. However, he arsey part of me would want to immediately go out in my car the second anyone parked over the dropped kerb (it's kerb, not curve BTW. Not being arsey there, honest!).

Cherryblossom200 · 01/11/2018 15:43

Some parents stop and drop off, some chat for 5 minutes and some as long as 20! They actually go in the neighbours house and come out when they are ready. I can’t stress how lazy these mums are when there is a parking spot, and yes sometimes it does block me in.
