Which house do you prefer?

My DH and I are at loggerheads about which property we want to offer on - sawbith in the last couple of weeks.

I prefer this one www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-75525908.html

I like it because it is on a nicer, quiet road. It is closer to the train station than the first one.

He prefers this one www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-75632468.html

This is opposite a busy primary school - we have no kids. Obvs bigger, with bigger garden.

They’re both on for the same price.

We’re moving into the area - these are 1/2 a mile apart.

Any opinions? Am I being silly? DH says there is no question! Thanks.

Not knowing anything about the location, I'd go for the second one - bigger downstairs, end of terrace (I'd hate to have potentially noisy neighbours on both sides) and scope for an extension/development either to the side, rear or front if you wanted to make it bigger in a few year's time. That said, I really hate bathrooms with no bath, and it doesn't look like you could fit one in that bathroom....

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2018 15:10

Second one also, bigger downstairs, better garden and end of terrace.

MovingtoLondonAgain · 08/10/2018 15:10

Thanks- interesting, my DH says the same. There is potential to extend the first to the rear. I also don’t wNt to live so close to the primary school which is huge and busy at drop off times. Appreciate your feedback - really helpful x

It's just drop off times though, nothing at weekends and hols, and I guess you both work?

Annasgirl · 08/10/2018 15:35

If you cannot agree, don't offer on either - you really need to love the house you buy on some level - both of you - as you will be there a long time (even if you sell up an move, we stayed longer than intended in both our last houses).

MovingtoLondonAgain · 08/10/2018 15:43

Well, yes if we can’t agree we won’t offer. Moving to be close to my parents so location wise both properties are very close to them.

First one - the second one is ugly and if it's opposite a primary school you'll have constant parking grief

MovingtoLondonAgain · 08/10/2018 15:50

I can’t be doing with parking grief!

I prefer no 2 but wouldn't want to have parking issues near a school.

The size and garden of no 2 are great and I would not buy a mid terraced.

Maybe wait and see what else comes on the market as neither is working for the both of you.

pallisers · 08/10/2018 15:58

I would definitely start preparing your diagram skills now for the second one as you will be posting on the parking threads if you buy it.

If I were you I'd go by at drop off and pick up times for the primary school and see what it is like.

Janleverton · 08/10/2018 16:02

First one, without a doubt. It’s a much nicer road. I don’t know Downham terribly well but isn’t downderry road a bit of a cut through/rat run?

keepingbees · 08/10/2018 16:04

I actually prefer the second house, it's bigger and has a better garden. But he's it will get busy at school times so it depends if you will be home around then and if it would bother you. If you can't agree I think you need to go back to the drawing board as maybe neither are quite right.

Mummyshark2018 · 08/10/2018 16:10

Second house. Much more scope to add value, I would feel a bit claustrophobic in house 1. School parking could cause you difficulty but it's really only for 30mins max a day (5days a week) and if you work out of the home then you'll be oblivious to it!

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2018 16:11

Why would she have parking issues? It's got two parking spaces at the front and a third with a dropped kerb she would be fine.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 08/10/2018 16:11

I'd keep looking for house 3 that you both like just as much.

MovingtoLondonAgain · 08/10/2018 16:13

We viewed number 2 at pick up time actually and it was really busy, and someone had parked across the drive. That said, appreciate it is short lived but I do think it would bother me.

Sparklyfee · 08/10/2018 16:14

The second one. But it says it's sold stc

mouthkisses · 08/10/2018 16:14

First one.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2018 16:14

Then I'd keep looking for the third,

Are iether of you actually home at pick up time, don't you work?

MovingtoLondonAgain · 08/10/2018 16:19

What?! I guess we spent too long dithering!!!

OP posts:
GreenMeerkat · 08/10/2018 16:21

I prefer the first one. It's brighter and more modern.

Very pleased I live in the North looking at that price tag Shock

BigSandyBalls2015 · 08/10/2018 16:23

First one, second one is hideous.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 08/10/2018 16:27

I'm glad I live oop north too! Looks like the decision has been taken out if your hands!

LemonysSnicket · 08/10/2018 16:28

2 by far

MovingtoLondonAgain · 08/10/2018 16:28

I guess the second one wasn’t meant to be after all. I think my DH will be disappointed we missed it - me not so much!
