Does any one have a kitchen with only floor units no wall units...

Just as the title says I would really appreciate a picture if possibly currently planning ours but they will all be floor units no wall ones (long boring story but obviously down to the final look)
we would like 2 different unit colours but all the pics on Pinterest show floor units one colour then wall another if that makes sense and. I can't visualise that because it's not what we are after TIA!

@scaryteacher please do post any pics you have. I am interested as I am refurbishing a very (1980s) old kitchen by painting cabinets etc, adding shelving and maybe adding something freestanding and am looking for ideas.

scaryteacher · 29/09/2018 11:47

Ours was 60s/70s with turquoise lino and wooden handbill (badly) units!

Will get dh to take some pics later.

Following with interest as I am planning our kitchen at the moment for our self build and we're planning a kitchen with no wall units but including a walk in pantry/ larder.

Great to see yours @SorrelForbes . You don't happen to have a picture of your larder with the cupboards etc in and food in it? I have been looking for real pictures of them and all the ones on Houzz are too perfect to be real! Thanks very much and apologies for the thread hi jack!

We’ve only got floor cupboards and I hate it. We went from a kitchen with 15 wall/floor cupboards to a kitchen with only 4 floor cupboards, 1 under sink cupboard and a drawer unit.

We’ve got a 5 shelf inbuilt pantry but have had to add a tall bookcase (for spices, Tea etc) and a 3 door Welsh dresser for pots and pans to the kitchen and we’ve got a second hand kitchen cupboard arrangement in the garage for all our extra plates/cups/glasses etc.

SorrelForbes · 30/09/2018 07:50

@Bewarethequietboy I will take a picture of the pantry today (it's a bit messy!). DH made the shelves etc. from Ikea Billy units and some B&Q basic range cabinets.

@mrssunshinexxx Thank you! I'm so pleased with it. We went with Second Nature Fitzroy handpainted units from Units Online. My husband never wants to see another metro time again!

@scaryteacher No, it's an old pine cabinet that a neighbour gave me. DH painted it in flat Matt grey and fitted a copper lock and handle. It needs repainting now as it has chipped and I'm not really going for shabby chic.

Our main reason for forgoing wall cabinets was to keep the kitchen as light as possible. It's a huge room with the light coming from the other end and I was desperate not to have to have the lights on all the time!

Beware If you have any Nigella cookbooks there are sometimes pictures of her pantry in there, and it doesn't look perfect. The Pioneer Woman sometimes posts pictures of hers as well.

Bewarethequietboy · 30/09/2018 14:08

Brilliant thanks, that's a great idea about the billy bookshelves, I never would have thought of that!

And nigellas pantry is much realistic and a good compact size as well, some of them seem big enough to be a whole room

imsorryiasked · 30/09/2018 14:16

@mrssunshinexxx if you Google "multi colour kitchen cabinets" there are some images on there. I think it can be tricky to make it work and not just look like there weren't enough of one colour to finish the job.

Bewarethequietboy · 30/09/2018 16:42

Also if you look on houzz for two tone kitchen cabinets theres some on there, but they're all a bit perfect!

mrssunshinexxx · 30/09/2018 19:31

Thank you both will look now

I totally forgot to upload these yesterday. We still haven't got round to putting the little white plugs into the holes of the Billy units!

SorrelForbes · 01/10/2018 14:21

Second attempt!

Beautiful!!!

thedogiswearingtartan · 01/10/2018 14:35

@Baxdream I absolutely love your kitchen, it's gorgeous

Bewarethequietboy · 01/10/2018 18:56

Thanks so much @SorrelForbes . It's really useful to see a real working space, rather than all matching kilner jars and only attractive packets etc. The billy bookcases look like they work really well- not too deep and lots of options for shelf spacing

SorrelForbes · 01/10/2018 19:46

In my head, it was all going to be matching jars and canisters! That lasted about 5 minutes and then real life took over. It does seem to have become our main alcohol storage facility.

BretonStripe · 01/10/2018 21:56

Wow SorrelForbes I'm green with envy!

MiniCooperLover · 02/10/2018 18:34

Baxdream, I didn't see the picture you posted but I've seen your pics on other threads, is it the navy blue from Howdens? I love the pics of yours I've seen. I'm sure anyone who thinks its grim is happy to post a picture of their own kitchen to be critiqued? I'm trying to persuade my DH that the Navy blue Howdens is the way to go.

Baxdream · 02/10/2018 18:52

Ah thanks, that is mine! No strangely no photos of hers Hmm
I think we've basically collapsed after our mammoth building works so it does need some homely bits still. But I absolutely love it. I hope you manage to persuade him!

MiniCooperLover · 02/10/2018 19:33

He thinks it'll be too dark even though I'm saying white or off white worktops plus white walls and we are knocking down a wall so I think it'd be ok but we'll see ..... 😊
