Does any one have a kitchen with only floor units no wall units...

Just as the title says I would really appreciate a picture if possibly currently planning ours but they will all be floor units no wall ones (long boring story but obviously down to the final look)
we would like 2 different unit colours but all the pics on Pinterest show floor units one colour then wall another if that makes sense and. I can't visualise that because it's not what we are after TIA!

@sisgal what a rude comment. Completely unnecessary.

Ocadodumped · 28/09/2018 19:11

Mine looks very like this but without that single wall cupboard. I really like the 3/4 cupboards with ovens and drawers.

We don't have wall units - it's a small kitchen and would be v dark / crowded with wall cupboards. I have a separate walk in pantry which holds most of the food, plus a cupboard in the breakfast room with the glasses.

No picture as it's currently a building site as we put a new kitchen in. New one will have no wall units either - I don't like them, I'm not keen on that very fitted kitchen look, particularly as our house is old. We will have one open shelf but it will be for naice things mainly e.g., favourite crockery. I think kitchens seem lighter and more open without wall units but we only get away with it because of the separate pantry.

TeamDixon · 28/09/2018 19:45

Here's mine, no units but shelves and a dresser type thing. Are you having an island? Could you do the island in a separate colour?

And my glasses are in a pan drawer too!

Mumski45 · 28/09/2018 19:49

We have a wall of tall floor standing units and a perpendicular wall of normal height floor units with an Island. I love it as you get best of both worlds without any wall cupboards which reduce light. I think it works well especially in a kitchen/diner/livingroom.

Mumski45 · 28/09/2018 19:50

Oh and the tall units are a different colour to the normal height units and the island although the plinths on all units are the same as the tall units which brings it all together.

Longdistance · 28/09/2018 20:01

I have no wall units. I do have a pantry, and my island is double sided (cupboards back to back), and my glasses are on the dining room side next to the wine fridge.

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2018 20:20

Here's ours (just before we finished it!). We only have drawer base units (except for under counter microwave and a pull out bin unit). We have a walk in pantry where we store all our food and drink and a glass free standing cupboard for our glassware. Our everyday crockery is in one of the drawers and the extra stuff is on a shelf in the pantry.

SorrelForbes,

How do you find under counter microwave to use?

Tika77 · 28/09/2018 20:29

Very nice kitchen, sorrel. Similar to mine but a lot bigger. :-) I love the walk in pantry.

SorrelForbes · 28/09/2018 20:36

Thanks! I love my pantry, it was my one 'must have'.

I like the microwave there, it's nice and out of the way. I'm fairly short so it's not really a pain bending down to open it!

exLtEveDallas · 28/09/2018 20:39

I don't have wall units. V large kitchen with cupboards and deep drawers.

MIL didn't have wall units either, her kitchen was much smaller but almost perfectly square. No wall units meant the room looked a lot bigger.

I don't miss them, neither did MIL.

Going by all these wonderful photos I'm due a new kitchen Envy

theendofeverything · 28/09/2018 21:50

@scaryteacher your kitchen sounds interesting. Any pics (though understand if you don't want to post any!)

namechangedtoday15 · 28/09/2018 22:18

No wall cabinets here either. Glasses in deep pan drawer.

TeamDixon · 28/09/2018 22:53

Some amazing kitchens, I love these threads!

bobkate · 28/09/2018 23:18

Bax - I love your kitchen....am astounded that people feel it's okay to say someone's kitchen is grim, yet are offended when they are called vile for saying it. It was vile to say something like that.
If it's not to your taste sisgal then simply say that ...it's not to my taste.... but to call it grim is fucking rude. And putting sorry at the end is just patronising.

bobkate · 28/09/2018 23:19

Oh, and I'm not having any wall units either.

MarmiteTermite · 28/09/2018 23:30

Bax - I like your kitchen too. Think some people might be a bit jealous.

scaryteacher · 29/09/2018 08:46

@theendofeverything The kitchen is in Cornwall, the freestanding bits are with me in Belgium. I can post what I have of the kitchen. It won't all be reunited until I move home next year. I can take pics of the freestanding bits in the current house. I do have, some pics, but they were when I was in the throes of living between Cornwall and Belgium and the kitchen is shockingly untidy.

Baxdream · 29/09/2018 08:54

Thanks for the other comments. I certainly wasn't fishing for compliments. I completely understand that people have different views.
One thing my kitchen isn't is grim. Grim is dark, dingy, dirty, not looked after etc etc.
Not to everyone's taste? Of course!

But writing that above was nasty and she should be ashamed to speak of people's homes in that way

scaryteacher · 29/09/2018 08:58

Sorell I have pantry lust. Is your glass cupboard IKEA? I remember trying to persuade dh I really needed something similar.

I think you design your kitchen to suit you, as you cook in it, as opposed to what suits others. When we bought out house the kitchen was horrid as it had been hand built by the previous owners (he thought he was a gifted amateur) and it took a while til we could afford to replace it. The freestanding bits were a cheap alternative to an expensive built in kitchen, and as the house is old, then it looks OK. I have a proper range, big old stone fireplaces, one of which houses the wine, a butler's sink that I can put big pans in and I want to go home and live in my kitchen again!!

Current kitchen has wall units, so I am constantly on and off a kick step to find things.

SorryNotSorry · 29/09/2018 08:58

I saw your kitchen on the extension thread @baxdream and remember thinking how nice it was. Calling someone's kitchen grim is a vile thing to do.
We are only having tall units and base units. We are doing the island a different colour. But when we were planning a galley kitchen with only base units we planned to have the window wall light and the job wall in a darker colour. I definitely think you can play with colours. Maybe post a plan and people will advise

mum2015 · 29/09/2018 10:17

Kitchens are so personal. Both in terms of use and choice. Also one can get away with wall units if they have tall cabinets, freestanding units or pantry etc.

I see those who need step stool to reach upper cabinets don't like wall units. I am tall enough to reach upper cabinets but suffer from back ache and struggle with bending down Sad so like wall units.
If I had a choice my whole kitchen should install atleast a feet above floor level!
