Range cookers - stoves or rangemaster?

Saffysgang10 · 05/09/2018 12:05

Can anyone advise please, new kitchen going in during October and we were planning on going with a rangemaster but have recently seen bad reviews as the company have moved production to turkey and build quality appears to have gone downhill. Any help please?

We had this Stoves range in our old house. I bloody loved it. its about the only thing i miss about the money pit.

build quality was fine. the buttons on the clock were a bit dodgy on the first one we had but they replaced it i think so the service was pretty good too.

lilraven · 05/09/2018 12:33

Don't get a rangemaster, it's been my most expensive mistake yet. I've only had it 9 months and it's falling apart. It's really poor quality compared to the belling range I had in my old house. The range master chimney head is also crap. Don't waste your money!

EdisonLightBulb · 05/09/2018 12:41

I have had both.

Despite the Range Master being more expensive the build quality is shit. 2 burners don't work and I have had to replace the chrome towel rail as all the chrome rubbed off it. I have also had to have a new element in the main oven as it corroded (even though hardly used, I use the smaller oven) and keep tripping all my electrics and banging.

The Stoves was built better but still had a door problem where it would open on it's own when the heat got up.

Personally I will try something different next time, even if my Range Master was pretty to look at.

BeeKeeping · 05/09/2018 13:07

When did range master production move? We have a 3+ year old induction elise and it’s built like a tank. I bloody love it.

wowfudge · 05/09/2018 13:20

We have the same range that Raaraa has linked to and it's great. We have the black version. The hob is fabulous and the ovens and grill are great too.

Stripeylil66 · 05/09/2018 16:23

I bought my Rangemaster Classic 110 dual fuel about 6 months ago, there have been no problems with it all all and I love it. The previous one lasted 8 years before that with no issues. The newer one has a double fan oven, and the grill is quicker and more controllable - I will try to never cook on anything else!!!

YogaDrone · 05/09/2018 16:36

I actually have the Stoves Sterling EI open on anther tab Raaraaboonah and wowfudge as I'm looking to replace our existing Britannia gas range with an induction one.

Our Britannia has two ovens and I think they're both too small. May I ask you if you found the main oven in the Stoves to be large enough to cook a Sunday roast/Christmas dinner? Or did you find you had to use all 3? It looks like the 4th is just a warming drawer (which I love the idea of).

Sorry for the hijack OP!

wowfudge · 05/09/2018 16:49

The bottom right oven is a slow cooker. I used both ovens for Christmas dinner but that was because we had two different birds to cook. The top left is a grill only, but obviously with the ovens on can be used for warming plates and serving dishes. The hob is huge and so easy to keep clean with it being induction.

wowfudge · 05/09/2018 16:50

I mean both the main oven and the multifunction oven when I say I used both ovens.

Chopchopbusybusy · 05/09/2018 16:51

We’ve had our Rangemaster for about 5 years. No problems at all. Looks great.

TomHardysNextWife · 05/09/2018 16:56

I've just ordered a Falcon range cooker and hood this week, to replace a 15 year old Britannia. I've gone for the 60cm main oven and then a tall 40cm oven so there is lots of cooking space. We've ordered the professional one though, and it is like an armoured tank to be honest. After having only a 40cm non fan oven for 2 months I can't bloody wait!!
I thought Rangemaster/Falcon were built in the UK though.............. Hmm

YogaDrone · 05/09/2018 16:56

Thanks wowfudge. The Britannia ovens are 52 and 42 litres and the Stoves two ovens are 61 and 65 which is much better. We need the 100cm version.

Sorry yes, 4th is a slow cooker. Great idea.

The Britannia is built like a tank and still works perfectly (it's about 10 years old) but it's getting long in the tooth and I really want induction.

Raaraaboonah · 05/09/2018 17:05

yogadrone we cooked christmas dinner in it and it was ace. loads of useable internal space with adjustable shelves to helpful heights. i also catered for a buffet lunch for 40 odd in it with no problems. i miss it so much. just dying to be able to redo the kitchen and get one in our new house.

when comparing different ovens be careful about the useable capacity rather than just the volume of the ovens. my mum and mil have the same rubbish bosch oven that has stupid rack heights that you can't adjust and it drives them both nuts as you basically can't use more than one shelf at a time as the shelves aren't at the right spacings to be able to fit anything in.

EchidnasPhone · 05/09/2018 17:13

I wouldn’t recommend a range master. The after care is shocking. No qualified trades people service Scotland and the one we got after 2 months chasing broke it further. It’s 2 years old now & am wondering how long until I can get something different. Yes it’s pretty powder blue & goes with the kitchen but it’s a pain.

Witchonastick · 05/09/2018 17:22

I wouldn’t recommend Stoves now. Used to be brilliant, but they’ve cheapened the products.
We had a stoves range oven in our last house, loved it, so bought another of the same model when we revamped the kitchen in our new house. No comparison!

ditavonteesed · 05/09/2018 17:24

I got a smeg range cooker and it is absolutely AMAZING had it a year and a half now and I am still completely in love with it. (Also it's pink but they probably have more sensible colours)

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2018 17:25

Ive a range master it's just under two years old and I love it. The ovens heat up very quickly and the ceramic hob is ready to go in seconds. It also looks good.

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2018 17:28

Bit confused, rangemasters it seems are still produced in the U.K. for the British market?

YogaDrone · 05/09/2018 20:14

Yes useable space is definitely different from capacity. I used to have a rack of lovely eye level Neff ovens which I loved, but this house wouldn't suit a contemporary kitchen. A range cooker is certainly more fitting here but I don't know anything about the brands. I also can't afford to replace the whole thing.

BubblesBuddy · 05/09/2018 20:35

There is no reason why you cannot have a bank of ovens in an older house. I have. If you get decent makes they will last way longer than 15 years. Mine are already 15 years old and are just perfect. Miele induction hobs are wonderful.

FlotSHAMnJetson · 05/09/2018 20:39

I have a Rangemaster and it's loved, three years old and despite daily abuse it looks like new.

Saffysgang10 · 05/09/2018 22:33

Thank you for your advice, though still unsure which manufacturer to go with. Unfortunately we cannot go for a falcon or britannia as budget is £1,500 max, due to the rest of the kitchen already through the ceiling! We are thinking stoves richmonds 900df or the rangemaster professional+90 dual fuel. Big problem with Stoves is that you cannot see them anywhere, I even called the company and they were unable to give me details of anywhere to view ranges apart from their manufacture site in Liverpool? ?!!
Oh well, first world problems eh? ! Thanks again

DontMakeMeShushYou · 05/09/2018 22:45

We've had a Stoves Sterling 900 dual fuel range for 6 years. I'd highly recommend it.

TomHardysNextWife · 05/09/2018 22:56

We saw lots of Stoves on display OP when we ordered ours.... it was actually the range we were looking at but I didn't like the knobs so went onto Rangemaster. We're in Gloucestershire if that's close?

Saffysgang10 · 05/09/2018 23:42

Thanks TomHardysnextwife, we are in central Scotland and no stoves to see! Heard some rangemaster knobs had melted also.
Such a lot of money so I don't want to get it wrong.
