Fitting dishwasher inlet to kitchen tap?

Itsmeaga1n · 20/07/2018 14:52

Grateful for any help!

I have a table top dishwasher and need to connect the inlet hose too the cold water tap. The kitchen sink taps are kind of square.

Does anyone know what sort of adaptor I need?

I've looked at garden house adaptors but they don't seem to have the correct end for the water inlet pipe, which needs to screw on?

Thanks!

Would this work:

I don't know if the water inlet pipe from the dishwasher will screw on to it Blush

Anyone? I've been to b&q but they didn't have anything.

It is impossible to plumb it any other way as rented accommodation and the landlord won't allow me to drill in the work surface to pass hose through and no room other than on the draining board.

has there ever been a washing machine in the kitchen?

please post photos of any pipes and valves you can see under the sink or nearby.

There is a washing machine connected, yes, but no way to connect a dishwasher, as it would mean drilling a hole through the worksurface for the inlet/ outlet hoses, and no space in the cupboards to install a dishwasher, hence having a table top one.

Thanks knitted, sadly that won't for as I need to be able to screw on a hose like this

I have in mind that an extra tap can be fitted to the washing machine pipe, and (unless Ikea cabinets) there is a gap behind the cabs where a hose can be led out, possibly emerging at a corner or by moving the plinth.

Itsmeaga1n · 21/07/2018 12:06

It's rented accommodation so I can't move anything Sad There's no gap - L shaped kitchen.

If I removed the plinth I'd have the inlet hose over in front of my cupboard door, which isn't practical either as its such a small kitchen.

Thanks though for trying, I'll keep looking for an adaptor.

if not this one, look for something with a strap or chain to prevent the adaptor popping off the tap and squirting water round your kitchen.

If you email them with a photo of your tap, they may have other suggestions.

Thanks piglet, that's what I was looking for Smile

piglet can I ask another question? Blush

I found this adaptor on Amazon

www.amazon.co.uk/Plumb-Pak-Tap-Adaptor-Square-Taps/dp/B0035LDA9E?tag=mumsnetforum-21

And I'm using it whilst the one you recommended arrives. My question is, if I leave the cold tap turned on, what happens when the dishwasher has enough water? Will it keep filling up until its too full and then presumably something will start leaking? Or drop I need to estimate when the filling cycle ends and turn the tap off?

Sorry for the stupid questions!

Should be alright - the dishwasher will stop pulling water and close off its pipe, the seal on that adapter will hopefully keep it on the tap, and water will stop flowing even with the tap open.

You won't need to open the tap to full flow, by the way. The dishwasher shouldn't need any particular flow rate.

Even so, I wouldn't leave this setup unattended...

Itsmeaga1n · 21/07/2018 19:17

Thanks for your reply. I guess what I'm struggling with is that if that adaptor wasnt fitted, the tap would just run, so what happens to the water coming out of the tap running into the pipe if the dishwasher stops drawing water? Won't the hose fill up and keep filling from the running tap?

No don't worry I won't leave unattended. I'm moving soon and hope then I can plumb it in properly but not sure yet.

No

Water will not flow into one end of a pipe faster than it flows out of the other.

The pipe is not an inflatable balloon.

Ok thanks Smile

Hello, I'm wondering if you ever resolved this??? We have just got a second hand countertop dishwasher and nothing seems to fit our old square faucet head (without aerator).
Thanks!
