We’re building - would you include a granny-flat?

We are (still) in the process of planning our new-build home.

My latest wish-list want is a granny flat, instead of a garage. My idea is practical in that we can have my fit-for-for-now Mum stay there later on. (when she finally decides it may be more practical than living in the middle of the countryside about 15 miles away).
In the meantime, our teen DD says it would be perfect for her - the idea of not being woken up by late night revelry sounds very appealing.
We have the space, just wanted some folks’ opinions/feedback.
Thanks

A friend of mine did it. There's a bedroom, living room with a few kitchen units & a bathroom. It's been used as a guest room mostly but her daughter is at uni now and has moved in. It's been a brilliant compromise. She has privacy and her own space but she's still at home.

It also means the rest of the family aren't disturbed by her coming home at all hours

It will count as a kitchen if it has a cooker.
It won't if it has a small sink and a 'wine or beer type' fridge.
May I recommend one of these, which can be removed or replaced at will: www.domu.co.uk/vonshef-twin-digital-induction-hob?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1aCYs-yt3AIVmIjVCh1gxAZQEAQYASABEgKXpfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Gah - thanks for that!

Lingua - unfortunately we don’t have room for both
Red - I think it will be mostly a teen annexe for now- a great compromise for young adults!

... great idea, so long as you know you'll probably never see your teenage daughter again. (Perhaps this is the idea?!) :-)

What a few people have done is build the garage and fit it out later. No one knows what’s in it. You keep the doors at the front and put in a second skin of windows behind so when the doors are open, it’s glass. Obviously easy if it doesn’t face a road! I know people who have done this with stables. Retro fitting.
