Anybody in the market for a lovely 2 bed near Cambridge?

Absolute bargain at only £295,000! Hmm

You've got to admire the chutzpah of the seller. That's like the etsy equivalent of charging 50 quid for a glittery wine glass

JohnnyKarate · 13/07/2018 23:44

Hello bungalow owner!

I might find your tiny house amusing, but you'll be the one laughing all the way to the bank when it's sold.

Onwhitehorses · 13/07/2018 23:45

This puts the original property into perspective in terms of how overpriced it is.

aperolspritzplease · 13/07/2018 23:51

I dunno 🤷‍♀️ it's done quite nicely and cheaper than anything near where I live for the same sq ft.

Souledout · 13/07/2018 23:53

EPC ?

melonscoffer · 13/07/2018 23:55

Reading the description I cannot see mention of a front door.
I think the patio doors are your lot.
When did selling properties such as this has become acceptable.

Squirreltamer · 14/07/2018 00:02

There is a separate door on the floor plan.

It’s to the right hand side. In the walkway between the chalet and red brick wall.

JohnnyKarate · 14/07/2018 00:02

The front door is at the side, you can see it on the floor plan going into the hall.

OP posts:
FiestaThenSiesta · 14/07/2018 00:08

Front door is to the side. Just look at the plan and find the wall with a single window (downstairs bedroom). That’s the front. The kitchen/lounge with the patio door is at the back, the triangular paved patio is your back view from the patio.

buddhasbelly · 14/07/2018 00:10

House owner how do you get a sofa in?? I'm so intrigued by this property!

MarthasGinYard · 14/07/2018 00:13

Lovely garden Grin

LadyLance · 14/07/2018 00:24

But the house seller is clearly ridiculous if they think that this is acceptable- If you're willing to profit out of people's desperation to own somewhere to live, then you can take a bit of stick @MNHQ

That is insane pricing- you could buy an actual house in my reasonably nice Cornish town for that.

Bluntness100 · 14/07/2018 06:15

Ah, cmon garage owner, reveal yourself. Let's have a picture of the front door and have you had any viewers?

KanielOutis · 14/07/2018 06:26

There are loads of these garage conversions where I live just outside London. It affords someone a freehold home with parking and garden at the same price as a flat. Of course there are cheaper properties across the country, but not everywhere is affordable.

SleepFreeZone · 14/07/2018 07:46

Why would the owner of this dwelling run to MNHQ to say people are being mean? That’s a bit odd 🤔. Perhaps there’s a sad story behind it which is why MNHQ is trying to garner sympathy.

SimonBridges · 14/07/2018 08:08

I don’t think anyone is being unkind as such. No one is being rude about the decor or furniture. More about the shocking state of the housing market if something this small can be worth that much.
It’s not like there is anything crazy about the house, like a glass jacuzzi in the conservatory, remember that one?
I suspect it may have been built as a granny annex and sadly is no longer needed. The owner then decided that they wanted to sell rather than renting it out or just not using it. If I thought I could make that kind of money on it I would.

ShowOfHands · 14/07/2018 08:13

My friend rented a 1 bed converted garage in Cambs whilst at uni but it was vile. Mouldy, damp, cold and unsafe. At that time, it cost her double the rent of my 3 bed farmhouse with huge garden and parking. Her Mum reported the landlord and the "bungalow" and it was pulled down eventually.

It does seem ludicrous to me but then that's property and people for you.

wowfudge · 14/07/2018 08:20

My thoughts were that it was done as a granny annexe and is no longer lived in by the granny. We have friends who built a bungalow for elderly parents on part of their garden. It's not much bigger than that although it was a purpose built house rather than a garage conversion.

There have been threads on converted garages before. I don't understand the outrage tbh. If someone wants to buy it, what does it matter?

StormcloakNord · 14/07/2018 08:25

As someone who lives in Scotland, the property market near London is baffling to me. Totally utterly ludicrous.

My initial thoughts seeing this is that the owner of that converted garage is a properly greedy selfish person preying on desperate people looking for a place to live.

BUT I don't really get what it's like living there that close to London. It's maybe a normal thing to do?!

mustbetimeforacreamtea · 14/07/2018 09:02

My 3 seater sofa came as a flat pack from Ikea so you could get all the furniture you need in you'd just never be able to get it out again. I would hate having to negotiate a way down the side of the house to get to the front door especially as it doesn't really look like a seperate property IYSWIM. I suspect the owners of the main house would be forever answering the door to deliveries and people trying to get to the future owners of the garage.

The front door access (and that's why there's no picture of it) will put off elderly people, anyone with disabilities, anyone with children, anyone overweight or anyone who has visitors in those categories. It's going to be a very niche market.

JohnnyKarate · 14/07/2018 09:19

It looks very recently done as the extractor fan in the kitchen isn't finished. If it has been done up to sell then you have to admire them for having a go, if they sell it, they will have sold it for more than they bought their house for.

I first posted it because it's massively overpriced for what you are getting and made me realise just how sorry the state of the housing market is down here. It's not normal for this area to do this as there are houses available for less than that which would be a bigger home on a bigger plot of land. Much like the link that was posted by onehitehorses. An elderly person can get a retirement bungalow for less than that and they won't have to deal with stairs if they become less mobile later in life so don't think there the target market. I'm sure some young professional who desperately wants a home will snap it up.

The fact that it's normalised for people to live somewhere that is meant to fit a car is very sad and I really feel for Londoners who feel that is there only option.

OP posts:
JohnnyKarate · 14/07/2018 09:21

They are the target market* sorry I have dyslexia and find it hard to see mistakes in big sections of text. I'm sure there are more Grin

If I was the seller reading this thread, i would be on the phone to the EA asking them to justify their ridicule-generating valuation. Of course, the seller may have actually given the valuation to the EA, as is common these days, and the EA felt obliged to accept it, in order to win the instruction.

MarthasGinYard · 14/07/2018 10:37

I think the borrowers or the riddlers may move in.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/07/2018 12:37

The problem is, the person you just sold your garage to will be your neighbour. So once it dawns on them that they’ve just paid 300k for a garage and you’re laughing all the way to the bank, they might become a rather inconsiderate neighbour...
