Can someone advise me on the duette blinds and do they work keeps heat in winter / heat in the summer?
I already have the new glass but it’s still very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter , I have underfloor heating , I would love to replace the roof with a tiled one but it’s out of my budget !

Hi Paula. Yes Duette blinds are the most effective type of blinds for both retaining heat and keeping the heat out of a conservatory. There is a website www.duette.co.uk or you can get them from Apollo Blinds. They will send someone out to your home to give you a quote etc. I'd say worth the investment. Hope this helps

Paula53 · 14/07/2018 17:32

Hi Kirsty,
Thank you for your post ! I had an agent out from duette and she quoted me £7500 for blinds !!!! Jeeps didn’t expect that one 👎
So I suppose a tiled roof is probably the better option based on the price of blinds .

I would say either a solid or combo roof of both solid and glazing its the best.

Light weight tiled roofs are also good if you're not fussed on glazing.

If you wanted a guide price before you called anyone out you can get one here:

We are going for a combination of part solid part glazed with venting windows (see pictures attached). I would have preferred full solid but we would end up with very dark adjoining rooms so a compromise.

We are installing the Livinroom roof by ultraframe. Pricier than we wanted but when we compared the price for blinds, we decided it was worth paying that bit extra for roof. Our is about 17m2 and costing 12k. However, if we were going for a 100% solid roof, we could have paid about 7-8k from other companies.

Looks great, Notyetthere , did you mean 7 or 8 thousand more for a fully tiled lightweight roof? Ours is 19 Sq metres and we're paying 12k , quotes went up to 18k, nothing near 8k. Thanks.

Notyetthere · 16/07/2018 21:38

Villageshop sorry I wasn't clear. No only about 7-8k.Not plus. This was the cheapest quote from this company, Cosy roof --www.cosyroof.com/how-it-works--. . I have to say though having seen several different types of lightweight conservatory roofs, the ultraframe ones seem to be better quality. Maybe that is why they charge more.

Notyetthere · 16/07/2018 21:39

I don't know why I struck through the link!

Notyetthere · 16/07/2018 21:40

Yes highest quote we also got was Anglian at £18.5k.

awishes · 16/07/2018 21:47

Hi sorry to but in but I’ve had a quote for a small conservatory which astounded me! Are the figures here just for the roof? Thanks!

Paula53 · 16/07/2018 22:20

Just had a quote for tiled roof by Guardian roofs ... 8k include plastering and electrics !!
So I’m very happy with this one !

We're looking to have a new 4x4m conservatory built with a solid roof including 2 velux windows. We've had a quote for £24K which is for the completely finished product (plastering, electrics, lights & floors). Does anyone know if this sounds competitive?

Wow £8K that sounds amazing!!

villageshop · 17/07/2018 23:58

Paula53 I am happy for you but feel a bit sick myself. That is such a great price I have to ask, do you live in the north of England or maybe Scotland? We are in the south 30 miles west of London so maybe that's why ours is so expensive. I had several quotes and they varied from £11,500 (no trimmings at all) to over 20k. I thought we were doing well to get our solid roof at £12k, now I'm not so sure. We're having 2 glass gables, no velux, box gutter (we're in a bungalow) and a new opening door. No inset lights (we're just having 2 pendants from the vaulted ceiling). I hope it's worth it.

Whereareyouscooter if that's the price for an entire new conservatory with solid roof that seems very good value. We had quotes for similar and they were all over 30k.

Paula53 · 18/07/2018 07:56

Yes my prices did come in around 15k but I got on to Guardian roofs ( worldwide) and they put me in touch with agent ! I live in Cheshire! But yes very pleased and I have researched Guardian roofs and they seem very good !

Whereareyouscooter · 18/07/2018 08:15

Just wondered Paula53 - is that price for a new roof or for a whole new conservatory with a solid roof?

Paula53 · 18/07/2018 14:56

It’s for a Guardian warm roof including plaster and electrics. Research Guardian roofs .

Notyetthere · 18/07/2018 15:29

We also looked into the guardian warm roof and the estimate was about 9k. We are going with the livin roof instead as we preferred their roof window options but if you are just installing a solid roof then definite the guardian system is ideal.

Paula53 · 18/07/2018 17:26

Hope so! Not had it done yet , it will be September.

mumtomaxwell · 18/07/2018 22:18

Our conservatory is about 11ft x 8ft I think... we’re having a guardian roof and we’re paying £6500.

Work starts next week and I can’t wait!!!

villageshop · 18/07/2018 23:08

Our roof is being reconfigured from a upvc lean-to to a solid pitched roof with glass gable each end. Maybe that's why it's so expensive? We've paid a deposit so no going back but compared to these it seems expensive though we had several estimates, all more than the 12k we settled for. Ours measures 5.2 metres x 3.8 metres.

mumtomaxwell · 18/07/2018 23:45

Ours is pitched (Edwardian shape) and to have the pitch changed so we can have a glazed gable end would have cost closer to £9k!

villageshop · 18/07/2018 23:49

mumtomaxwell if you had gone with a glass gable it sounds a bit more in the price range of ours then. Ours is bigger, and two glass gables - it's on a bungalow, so a long box gutter alone the back of the bungalow. They do seem to vary in price hugely though.
