Units online threesocks basically it was either a cock up with what they requested from PWS who supply the doors or PWS cocked up the order. Either way, there's no way it'll be done before Christmas now so yet another set back Sad

bobkate · 14/12/2018 21:22

Also....I need a rant. Sorry! What is the obsession with men and big tellys? So out comes the 55inch telly that has been in a box since black Friday and it looks bloody ridiculous Sad I have said that I think it's pants and hoping I can persuade him it is daft, but all his mates have big tellys... So and so has a 65" telly so 55" is not unreasonable he says. Anyway, had to get that out there. As you were.... Grin

4yearsnosleep · 15/12/2018 21:17

Oh no @bobkate fingers crossed that they sort it quickly and pay for the fitting costs

bobkate · 15/12/2018 21:25

I really hope so 4years Sad

bobkate · 17/12/2018 14:08

Oh woe is me SadSad just heard our worktops can't be fitted until the 10th Jan SadSad hope everyone else's is progressing better than ours!!!

SpaceBergerac · 17/12/2018 18:02

Oh no Bobkate, that's so disappointing Sad Have you got anywhere with the kitchen company?

Keeping everything crossed to have ours in by Xmas, but it's going to be tight! Theoretically we'll have a usable kitchen and utility by the end of the week, but there'll be finishing off to do in the new year. Keeping everything crossed...

PostNotInHaste · 17/12/2018 18:09

That’s a pain Bobkate Sad Fingers crossed for you SpaceBergarac

Off to pick up some underlay shortly for living room. It was plastered last week and I painted most of it yesterday though one wall needs a bit longer. No chance of carpet for Christmas but hoping underlay will take the edge of and thinking of using a big throw as a rug.

DD due back Saturday and the bedroom situation feels a bit touch and go.

Whattodowithaminute · 18/12/2018 18:38

Worktop and extractor now in-still waiting for hobs-should have them in by the end of the week... decorator and his team haven’t been back to work since a family emergency last Tuesday. Asked for more money yesterday... declined as he hasn’t done any work and today he’s collected all of his stuff without even acknowledging me... new decorator required for the new year now.

Good luck all...

4yearsnosleep · 18/12/2018 22:07

Oh jeez @Whattodowithaminute one headache after another :(

SpaceBergerac · 19/12/2018 19:18

Oh no whattodo, how disappointing. Have you got more contacts for decorators? Hope you find someone quickly.

Hope the underlay is making things more snug postnotinhaste, sounds like a good plan.

We have worktops! Mister Marble have been true to their word and done a lovely job, I'm so impressed they can install within a day of the survey! So we now have working sinks downstairs, and hopefully dishwasher installed tomorrow so no more washing up in the bath Grin Very pleased!

Whattodowithaminute · 20/12/2018 15:13

Wow spacebergerac that’s really impressive! Really great to get the worktops in. Jobs are being rigged up today and they look great. Will have some second fix lighting in by the end of the day too. post I hope the underlay has helped. I popped some rugs down yesterday and it’s made a real difference. bobkate our 55 inch TV went in yesterday too... and even DH said that’s bigger than I was expecting 🙄

Threesocks · 21/12/2018 19:13

Hope you are all doing ok ...our builders have left the building for Xmas. We are not completely done inside, but we are done enough to move back downstairs. Utility needs finishing along with odd bits of decorating and architrave. We now just have until Sunday lunchtime to turn it back into a home before the visitors arrive - wish me luck!!

Looks fabulous threesocks! That dark blue wall with the fireplace is so gorgeous, and kitchen looks great. Your visitors will be impressed!

Our builders finished for Xmas today too, like you not finished, but enough to start enjoying it. Used the dishwasher for the first time today, my life is complete Smile Spent most of the day painting the ceiling, cleaning up dusty messes and looking after poorly DS, I'm utterly exhausted. But no washing up to do! Lots of painting to do this weekend though...

Threesocks · 21/12/2018 20:46

@SpaceBergerac sorry to hear your little one has been unwell... weirdly my little boy is currently poorly too. He was like a koala today,so struggled to get much done. DH and I have been cleaning and moving furniture ever since the kids went to bed ... shattered now.

Having your house back feels amazing doesn't it!

I can't wait to use my dishwasher tomorrow too - 6 months washing up in my en-suite wash hand basin has nearly finished me off.

Enjoy your new space and have a lovely Xmas.

PostNotInHaste · 21/12/2018 20:52

Oh that’s lovely threesocks, how exciting ! Builder finished here for Christmas today too. I’ve had a cup of tea and watched Dr Who on a sofa in my new living room. The original was demolished in Feb’17 so been a long time coming. It’s not finished but has white paint on walls, lights up and things over the window to get us through Christmas. Huge difference in temperature co pared to old living room with efficient double glazing and lots of insulation.

Also back in our old bedroom tonight so DD can come home and have hers back again tomorrow. So lovely to be able to walk round side of bed rather than having to climb in. Still a fair bit to do after Christmas- our new bedroom, ensuite, utility, retile bathroom wall, but house feels so much more functional . Need to get festive, might put tinsel on the scaffolding.

4yearsnosleep · 28/12/2018 15:01

Any movement over Christmas? I spent another Christmas in my shitchen. Our new builder has confirmed a 18/2 start date, but I won't believe it until the diggers break ground

mum2015 · 28/12/2018 17:29

4yearsnosleep,
I am with you. No date from builder and another house purchase fell through so back to where I was. I have been decluttering and tidying up, which makes my house feel nicer. Planning to put new lining papers on kitchen cupboards, buy some new little things and going to clean and arrange everything nicely Smile

4yearsnosleep · 28/12/2018 18:21

@mum2015 we lost so much space when I pulled down the extension a week before the build was supposed to start that we have clutter everywhere. I'm determined to have a big clear out but it won't make that much difference ☹️

mum2015 · 28/12/2018 22:10

Declutter always helps. I was in a holiday rental for couple of days. Small one bed apartment. Having only and exactly what we need felt so nice. In 2019 we will either move or extend, but till then declutter and tidying is making me happy.

Huffahouse · 29/12/2018 17:53

Hello!
Please can I join you? We're about to start our extension next week 😮.

We are extending to create a large second living room area joined to dining area and kitchen. The kitchen space itself will be around 4.5 x 5m. There will be one wall (4.5m) for cupboards and then a large island in the centre.

I'm really not sure where to get the kitchen from and could do with some advice please! We are on a tight budget for the build overall. We originally looked at IKEA kitchens and liked them. Today I have been to magnet, Kutchenhaus, wickes and wren. Magnet gave the best customer experience and will be sending me some plans in a couple of days, but I am expecting this to be over budget.

Please tell me your experiences and recommendations if you don't mind! 😬

Huffahouse · 29/12/2018 18:13

Love looking at all your progress pictures too 👍

Whattodowithaminute · 31/12/2018 08:18

Welcome huffahouse and good luck with the build. We used diy kitchens for our kitchen and I’m pleased with it overall. Have you come across the MN kitchen lessons learnt thread? I found that useful.

Huffahouse · 31/12/2018 09:54

Thank you for the tip - I will have a look now 😊.
I am definitely interested in the diy kitchens...but I can't work out how to plan it out - is there an app or some software to use?! Thank you!

Huffahouse · 31/12/2018 10:10

Any idea where I can find the kitchen lessons learnt thread whattodo?
