Curved kitchen units

Last thread about my kitchen I promise.

We have designed our kitchen and put a curved base unit and wall unit next to the door into the hall.

However they are soooo expensive - it's about an extra £600 compared to normal square ones.

Will we regret it? We wanted a smoother entry through that door but it seems rather a hefty price!

We've got 11 of them, but they were nowhere near that expensive. I think it's a really good idea if your kitchen is going right up to the door frame.

SleepFreeZone · 10/04/2018 22:37

I’m not a fan if I’m honest. Somehow I think they look dated even though I know they’re bloody expensive having recently renovated our kitchen.

catweasel44 · 10/04/2018 22:40

That's 1-1.

Hmm.

IMO it’s worth the extra cost. I have a curved very large unit near the most used entrance to my kitchen. It would have driven me up the wall if the unit was straight edged.
The curve has made a big difference, if I was in your shoes I would bite the bullet and go for it

NotMeNoNo · 10/04/2018 22:43

How much to do it with angled units instead?

NotMeNoNo · 10/04/2018 22:45

You have plenty of space around the corner if you just leave it square OTOH.

FireworksBaby · 10/04/2018 22:46

We gave up on the curved unit, would have meant that we couldn't get our preferred worktops, as well as the expense of the unit itself.

I was worried about walking into a sharp corner after coming through the door, but nearly a year on, none of us have done it yet! I think our area between doors and units is similar to yours.

catweasel44 · 10/04/2018 22:51

I'll have a look at angled units but I think I'd rather normal or curved.

I might plot it out with gaffer tape on the floor and see how wide the gap is. It's quite narrow in our existing kitchen and very annoying.

Let me see if I can dig out some of my kitchen pictures as it doesn’t look a million miles away from your layout.

catweasel44 · 10/04/2018 22:55

Thank you 😊

SleepFreeZone · 10/04/2018 22:56

I’m not sure if that helps at all as the angles aren’t great. The doorway/walkway seems similar to yours and yet we have a square floor unit there with no issues.

Lovely!

You possibly have a bigger space by the door. I may remeasure!

Although of course you have the units making you veer right like a small slalom which is obviously why you’re concerned 😬😬😬

I haven’t helped at all.

BigFatBloomers · 10/04/2018 23:01

We ended up getting standard units but extending the worktop and having that curved. Worked well as a compromise.

SleepFreeZone · 10/04/2018 23:01

Okay this is what I would say. Do those curved units have to exist at all? What are your plans for them content wise? From what I’ve seen they hold hardly anything. Could you get rid of them altogether to give you a wider space or alternatively have a wider pan floor unit

Thisismyhappyface · 10/04/2018 23:03

I love ours. Wasn't convinced during planning, but DH insisted. Makes open plan space flow really well. In bed now but will take some pictures tomorrow.

FrogFairy · 10/04/2018 23:46

I love the look of curved units but have ruled them out for my kitchen because they are expensive and don’t have great storage capacity, plus you have the added addition cost of buying curved worktop and all the trims such as plinth and upper and lower trim on the wall cupboards which all adds £££ to the cost.

catweasel44 · 11/04/2018 08:37

A curved work surface could be a good solution.

But yes the slalom is the problem. It is the most annoying shaped kitchen in the world with no single wall without a window or a door - or both.

My sister has one curved cupboard and it is the perfect place to store her kenwood mixer. Literally like it was designed to fit! But I didn’t know how much they cost!! Shock

Hallamoo · 11/04/2018 10:40

I would just get rid of that 300 unit altogether, it looks like you have plenty of units.

I'm not a fan of the curved units personally. I think they already look dated.

seven201 · 11/04/2018 14:55

I think just don't have a unit there. I'm not a fan of curved units personally.

seven201 · 11/04/2018 14:55

Or have a normal one

catweasel44 · 11/04/2018 15:33

I've remeasured - I can make the corner unit 5cm bigger, the pan drawer 10cm bigger and then will have 20cm free at the end of the run.

Potentially the worktop can overhang a little more and curve round. I can hand tea towels underneath!

Really don’t like curved units agree with sleep they look dated

BigFatBloomers · 11/04/2018 20:03

That sounds like a good solution. We used to fit a recycling bin under ours.
