Curved kitchen units

Last thread about my kitchen I promise.

We have designed our kitchen and put a curved base unit and wall unit next to the door into the hall.

However they are soooo expensive - it's about an extra £600 compared to normal square ones.

Will we regret it? We wanted a smoother entry through that door but it seems rather a hefty price!

We had them fitted in our old kitchen and I loved them. Used to have the kettle there with tea/coffee etc above and mugs etc below. No regrets whatsoever.

Thisismyhappyface · 11/04/2018 20:24

Excuse the scabby laminate worktop- we are waiting for a silestone one to be fitted

I like curved units too and don’t think they are dated!

purplegreen99 · 11/04/2018 20:41

Thisismyhappyface I love your kitchen. Where did you get the units from? I've been looking for plain slab units with curved option but have only seen shaker, etc with the curved ones.

Thisismyhappyface · 11/04/2018 20:46

Thanks Purplegreen. It is the luca kitchen in matt dove grey from DIY kitchens. We looked everywhere for one, and this was by far the best quality for the cheapest price.

Thisismyhappyface,

Your kitchen is beautiful. Where did you get the window from?

Thisismyhappyface · 11/04/2018 21:11

Thank you mum it is from Uniwin in Loanhead, and is the triple glazed ponzio profile in an aluminium frame

catweasel44 · 11/04/2018 21:20

That looks beautiful! I don't think ours would look that beautiful - curve or no curve!

Ours is a DIY Kitchen too. They seem really good quality.

Thanks Thisismyhappyface - I'm going to have a look at DIY Kitchens - it looks great.

I put a base curve at the end of the run as it's right next to the door into the kitchen. Thought it would mean less bashed hips on corners. Works well and we like it, we also have an internal curved base and wall cupboard and I love that you can access the entire cupboard. From DIY, ££ but love them. Don't care if they look dated, they fit in with our 250 year old house Wink

Please excuse hideous kitchen door... need replacing.

It does look really good.

Argh - now I'm worried we'll regret the normal one.

It definitely doesn’t look bad, but I still think it looks dated.

sleepwelly · 13/04/2018 21:26

We have a curved unit in a similar place to you (similar style units too). I really like it and I'm glad we got it, but do beware that it really cuts down on the worktop you can get - really it's wood or some kind of stone (or composite I guess). Laminate is out because apparently the edging strip chips easily... we ended up with a quartz worktop, which I love but cost almost as much as the kitchen and which we most definitely had not budgetted for Shock

jollyjester · 13/04/2018 21:29

sleep can I ask where your kitchen is from?

Diseno · 14/04/2018 00:41

here are a few i think dont look dated
last one has no worktop at the mo but also has a curved back panel.
Curves, you do loose a little storage but for an example the one with no top would not have worked with stardard units. the curves made it softer and the room walking space more easy along with a nice effect.
So it is persional taste really.
They are very expensive for what they are and also add to your solid top cost for the cut.

We had wood effect laminate on our curved units.

MarmiteTermite · 14/04/2018 10:55

Why do curved units look outdated?

koalab · 14/04/2018 11:03

We gave up on the idea of urged units due to cost but compromised on curved end panels. I hope they show clearly in these pics.

Urged should say curved, sorry.

koalab · 14/04/2018 11:06

And we just have a laminate worktop which the fitters cut into a curve themselves. No chipping.

SleepFreeZone · 14/04/2018 11:35

jolly it was a local company up by us (Cambridge area). I can’t recommend the company themselves as they were an absolute pain in the arse when it came to working with our gutters and sorting out issues we had but the kitchen itself is lovely and the colour is somewhere between a white and a grey.

SleepFreeZone · 14/04/2018 11:36

Actually it’s also got some green in it. It’s called Mussel.

SleepFreeZone · 14/04/2018 11:36

*working with our fitters 🙄

jollyjester · 14/04/2018 11:41

sleep it looks very like units I ordered yesterday from b and q which are textured mussel.

We've also gone for a white worktop which I hadn't seen alongside the units so seeing yours has reassured me it will look lovely!

SleepFreeZone · 14/04/2018 11:47

I suspect jolly the doors probably all come from the same place as we had to deal with an organisation in Ireland at some point. It is a lovely colour so hopefully you’ll be lleased💐
