Yes. I much prefer integrated ones

venys · 06/04/2018 00:08

I have a smaller width one 3 years old and I don't think it's ugly. I am sure there are more aesthetically pleasing ones out there.

another20 · 06/04/2018 00:25

If I was starting from scratch I wold pref fully integrated but I need the space of the American style one and it is only a few years old. I think it is a bit wasteful to get rid of it and I dont see it as that ugly really - but DH thinks it will spoil the look of the new kitchen.

Yes but you can design a kitchen to disguise them more. What colour is it?

sausagedogsmakechipolatas · 06/04/2018 15:02

Could you not integrate a full height fridge and a full height freezer next to each other? Best of both worlds.

Tubbyinthehottub · 06/04/2018 15:08

I don't think mine is ugly. It's got a big freezer drawer at the bottom and double doors for fridge at the top. In fact, he's a big shiny beauty.

BennyTheBall · 06/04/2018 15:12

I think they are lovely. Love ours.

MouseMovingHouse · 06/04/2018 21:58

I agree with your DH. Is there no way you can recreate the amount of fridge/freezer space in the new kitchen without having an American FF?

SwedishEdith · 06/04/2018 22:12

Get 2 x FFs with doors opening like an American ff?

venys · 06/04/2018 22:49

Two FFs is not a bad idea. To be honest in another house we.owned, we ended up taking the door off the integrated FF as it kept coming unstuck. Granted it was an IKEA kitchen but we found the integrated appliances a pain. Same with the door on the washer dryer. You couldn't keep the door ajar and the seals would just go mouldy.

crumpet · 06/04/2018 22:56

I have an integrated full height fridge and a separate integrated full height freezer, so have plenty of space. Much prefer this to my previous American freestanding - and no crap down the sides/on top either.

Humptynumpty02 · 07/04/2018 00:43

Don't get Americans type at all, we are having 2 integrated fridge freezer next to each other so benefit from the integrated bit bit also more space than am american. Can't stand how they jut out and don't fill the space dedicated to them.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2018 03:15

One problem with the integrated FF is that you may have to redo your cabinetry significantly if the FF ever needs to be replaced. At least with the American style FF, if you need a replacement you can usually find something to slot into the space left behind.

Cavender · 07/04/2018 03:17

I used to have integrated fridge and freezer next to each other and could never understand why anyone would want an American style one, and then we moved to a house with one.

They are far, far bigger than integrated ffs. Considerably more space.

Wouldn’t go back now, ever.

foulmouthflora1 · 07/04/2018 08:04

I've always run two FFs. An integrated one in the kitchen and another in the utility. The integrated ones just don't have the space.

A lot of American style FFs are fugly and I dislike the water and ice dispensers that seems to be the norm. They often have disproportionate sizes for fridge and freezer. When we moved the family had an American style FF so I put a tall fridge and tall freezer side by side in its place. No dispensers! Just two slabs of equally sized stainless steel with very discrete temperature controls. Look lovely.

TreeClimbingMonkey · 07/04/2018 08:10

We would miss the ice and water dispenser too much now, the children have never drank so much water. 5 years in and the novelty has not worn off. So although ours isn't the prettiest thing in the world, I wouldn't change it.

I hate hate hated them but then I realised that going from two full side integrated larder applicances to a American saved me 30cm of space and only lost about 20litres of capacity I was sold.
Plus no need to play for housing, easily changable if repairs are needed and the ice and water dispenser will be great!
I have attached our kitchen designs with and without so you can do a comparison...I wouldn't say fugly in fact for me having a smaller thing is actually better looking.

happymummy12345 · 08/04/2018 17:44

Our dream is to have one. Hopefully one day we will have the space for one

DailyMaui · 08/04/2018 18:19

Having a whole new kitchen done and I'm keeping my huge american FF.

I honestly couldn't live without it now. My mum has three appliances (small under cabinet fridge in kitchen, tall freezer and tall fridge in cupboard downstairs in another bit of the house) and still doesn't have as much room for stuff. Plus I love the filtered chilled water and ice - now have as much ice as I can fit into a drink and I'm always miserable at the couple of bits I get when out! This is my second one and it is slightly smaller than my first and I even noticed the loss of space (especially in the freezer).

I love it.

MacaroniPenguin · 09/04/2018 17:22

I can't get that excited about the aesthetics of a fridge, but if he feels strongly and you don't, I'd let him have his way on this one. He can let you have your way on something that matters more to you.

namechangedtoday15 · 09/04/2018 19:24

God yes, horrid, I think they totally dominate the space both logistically and visually. I would much rather have the sleek lines of integrated appliances. My integrated ff is more than adequate for a weekly shop for a family of five.

BubblesBuddy · 09/04/2018 21:50

Integrated every time. Get two large built in fridges and you do get more space than an American monstrosity! Sleek and eye level! I have Leibherr built in and they are brilliant.
