Worsley or Wilmslow?

Hello guys, I am currently looking for a place to buy in Manchester for me and my partner. The problem is that we are not from this area, therefore, we do not know which areas are safe to live at.

We would like to spend around 300k, 350k being the max for a 3/4 bed detached home. I have been looking for Hale, Worsley, and Wilmslow but there is not much choice, especially in Hale being 550k the cheapest detached home.

I know roughly the big names but not much more than that, I was super convinced to go to Worsley in Ellenbrook but I feel like Wilmslow is a nicer place, so I'm not sure!

Please let me know of any safe areas where you can start a family and not have to worry about getting stabbed. I am soft therefore wouldn't like a rough area.

Many thanks!

@Gizzymum totally agree driving anywhere is a nightmare, traffic and pot holes are horrendous.

Afternoon, I will be going to places tomorrow and view a couple of different homes, also got some more viewing next week.

If none of these viewings catch my attention then there is always more time, I've got until September to move. Obviously the sooner the better to do all the paperwork and buy all the furniture and do any works.

Hope your all having a lovely weekend Smile!

So what happened with the Wilmslow house today and whereabouts are you viewing other houses?

ElAndy · 10/03/2018 20:00

Currently, I have booked three different ones in Wilmslow. The one I was speaking about yesterday is on for tomorrow not for today and another two also in Wilmslow one of them the 4 bed and 3 bed both in Turnberry Drive, Wilmslow SK9 these are booked for next week though.

Apart from them houses mentioned, I am currently looking in other areas too. I'm trying to find a good area and a decent home, preferably without extensions which will cost cheaper, then I build the extension.
But in Worsley, there isn't anything interesting at the moment (few overpriced homes which are slowly dropping in price), so I'm going to have to start looking at good zones in Stockport and possibly Prestwich I think it was. But I'm trying to take my time and not to rush into anything, and with everyone's feedback its great.

Then once I'm ready il book them up for next week too!

Many thanks all for the feedback/opinions Smile!

But there are those dreadful "estates" everywhere,,why they have them in wilmslow, macclesfield and worsley,,,to name but a few..

House has a lot of potential the one I went to view today, the area seemed lovely, but the house requires a lot of work done and the garden is not as big as shown in pictures but its still very good, I think now is the stage of negotiations...

But apart from that I defiantly will be looking around and viewing others homes because when I start negotiations with this vendor they could easily reject my offer/offers.

Therefore, if anyone has any other areas they would like to share, like street names or specific areas feel free to do so, I'm always listening. Thank you all for your contributions.

i know both areas pretty well - unless you can be Worsley Green area and afford private schooling I wouldn’t live there. Public transport is poor with no tram, station, but good for motorway links. Of the 2 options go for Wilmslow. Lovely villiage, good schools and on the mainline to Manchester and London. But quite middle class. Budget won’t get you near the town centre. If you want to be South Manchester but somewhere less stuffy, with great schools, good bars/restaurants and transport links (20 mins train to Manchester City Centre, close to airport) I’d consider somewhere like Cheadle Hulme which is just in budget for a 3 bed detached on a good road.
