Are they like the tardis in storage terms or difficult for some things great for others?! Any feedback on ideal size and how to make them function really well gratefully received!

I have one, 5 racks and wouldn't be without it. We don't store a huge amount admittedly and a small family but 1 rack is tins, 2nd sauces, relishes, condiments, 3rd bread and jams etc 4th pasta, porridge, cereals (plenty of height all 5 shelves) 5th baking. Easy to see everything, no back of cupboard syndrome to lose things in, easy to keep clean, all hidden away, still mechanically sound after quite a few years.

The shelves in ours snapped off the central pillar with alarming regularity. B&Q refused to admit a design fault. We’ve removed it and gone back to shelves.

Tronkmanton · 03/03/2018 07:05

We’ve got one and it’s absolutely brilliant. However it is one where the drawers pull out individually rather than all coming out at once iyswim. This apparently stops the issues with overloading and also you can easily see in each drawer.

acornsandnuts · 03/03/2018 07:10

I have two. One has tins, pastas, rice, bread. The other has spices, baking stuff store cupboard stuff. They are really sturdy and have never showed any signs or problems. Our kitchen was from DIY kitchens as recommended on here and is really good quality.

This is mine. I love it more than I love some of my family.

It's from Howdens.

We've also got the ones with drawers that pull out individually and I love them! The drawers pull right out so you can get loads more in than with shelves as you can use all the space and not worry about not being able to see/reach to the back. You can get things out from the sides iyswim so you don't have to take other things out that are in front of what you want. And they're not as heavy as the racks that attach to the door and all pull out at once. We've got two narrow sets around the fridge and store I'd say around two-thirds of our cupboard food in them.

NeverUseThisName · 03/03/2018 07:39

Yes, I can understand the love, Purple Grin

If something falls down onto floor level, can you clear it up easily?

jelly10 · 03/03/2018 07:39

@PurplePirate that is a thing of beauty Smile

ImListening · 03/03/2018 07:41

purple if I had that I would also love it more than some of my family. In fact I would gaze on it lovingly in a regular basis.

GetSchwifty · 03/03/2018 07:41

Purple pirate, that is the holy grail of kitchen storage!

Lorelaithe1st · 03/03/2018 07:43

I hated ours so much we removed it but maybe it was just badly designed. We can fit so much more with normal shelves. We’ve still got two more to remove, we curse the former owners of this house for their bad kitchen design daily Grin

@PurplePirate that is amazing. Ours was nothing like that!

PurplePirate · 03/03/2018 07:46

BlushSmile

It needs a bit of a tidy up. I'll treat myself to that this afternoon.

I use shelf liners to aid cleaning as the shelves don't come out that easily.

It's fully adjustable re heights.

PurplePirate · 03/03/2018 07:47

And yes, easy to get to the floor under all the shelves.

Roystonv · 03/03/2018 07:52

Mine looks rather small and boring (but suits us) now wow purple that is some cupboard. If that is the plan my comments will be useless!

Etaina · 03/03/2018 07:55

I wish my cupboards looked as well organised as yours PurplePirate!

NeverUseThisName · 03/03/2018 08:02

I've screenshotted that to my kitchen dream board.

GoatMilker · 03/03/2018 08:24

We have a 600mm wide tall cabinet from Ikea and filled it with pull out drawers.

In fact all our kitchen cabinets are larder pull out ones where the bottom drawer is attached to the door and then we installed internal drawers.

This allow you to determine the height of each drawer rather than having actual drawers with a drawer front.

PigletJohn · 03/03/2018 08:32

I got one where the shelves swing forward on a pivot rather than dragging forward on a rail. It seems smoother and does not rattle. It's made by Kessebohmer (I also got their Le Mans corner shelves which are very good).

You need to try a few in showrooms.

I got mine from B&Q (delivered free) as they had best price I could find.

Strugglingtodomybest · 03/03/2018 08:36

I don't regret getting one, it's great. It's at the end of the kitchen, so once it's pulled out its not in the way, and it's much easier having everything in one place I find.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/03/2018 08:43

I've had one for many years. It's quite narrow - all we could fit in - but I'd never have a kitchen without one. Everything is easily accessible.
Dd recently had a wider one installed and is v pleased with it.

Costacoffeeplease · 03/03/2018 08:54

I have the type where the individual drawers pull out, I asked for it to be attached to the door and slide, but was advised against it as it causes more wear and tear and the door is more likely to break. Now it’s in I prefer it as you can see what’s on each one easily, and they’re all like baskets so you can store small things or packets easily

Believeitornot · 03/03/2018 08:58

I have a tandem one which is miles better than the individual pull out drawers we used to have.
The problem I had with tall drawers is I can’t reach the top ones! Tandem larder is much easier.

ShowOfHands · 03/03/2018 09:00

I have the same one as Pirate, plus another under unit cupboard in the corner with similar and personally, prefer shelves. I think I fitted more in my last kitchen which was a tiny galley kitchen with shelves. I like the look of it but don't think it saves space particularly. Accessibility is okay.

JT05 · 03/03/2018 09:48

Best thing for storage, unless you have a walk in larder.

StarsBrokenAgain · 14/03/2018 14:47

@GoatMilker did you get the pull out drawer bits from Ikea too?
