Decision has to be made pronto. Sink will be located on a large whitish quartz island. Will have a second sink (stainless steel) in the utility room
Suppose it comes down to whether a draining board is required on quartz? Please help! Any thoughts much appreciated

The Belfast for your country style look. With grooves cut into the worktop to make a draining area.

almostbutnotquite · 22/02/2018 21:22

I have a double Belfast cut into my granite island. I have grooves cut in for drainage. I love it and it's so easy to keep clean. Much better than stainless steel imo.

UndomesticHousewife · 22/02/2018 21:27

The stainless steel with quartz will look better I think.
White looks better with wooden tops but it’ll be too white otherwise

UndomesticHousewife · 22/02/2018 21:29

Actually.. what colour will the worktop be?

Chicci1 · 22/02/2018 21:29

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the thoughts. Liking the idea of grooves cut into worktop.

Sorry misread your post!

BubblesBuddy · 22/02/2018 21:38

Be careful about grooves. They flood. They don’t help you stack washing up. A basket in the second sink works a lot better in my view. You cannot really see it because it’s in the sink.

Go for an undermounted double stainless steel sink. Ceramic sinks are crap.

veuveo · 22/02/2018 22:33

No 1 for me
I hate undermounted sinks.
Sorry

KitchenGuy · 23/02/2018 00:52

Number two for me. I assume you are having drainer grooves cut into your worktop so that solves one problem with the butler sink. Stainless steel if you want to be safe and as for the white quartz. Um, they seem pretty durable but I think the jury is still out on them. I think the main advantage of quartz is the range of colours. If your going for white you have lots of other options on materials.

Bowerbird5 · 23/02/2018 06:22

I'm having number two. I am still debating over worktops. I like wood but lots say it goes black. Fitters say just need to look after it. I like the ceramic drainer hadn't seen one before. Good luck with choices sounds lovely. I don't have room for an island.

wowfudge · 23/02/2018 07:59

We have a stainless steel undermounted sink in an island with a composite top and drainer grooves. When we ripped out the old kitchen I sold the two ceramic Belfast sinks. Bloody things - I hate them: they chip, if you drop anything into them it breaks.

veuveo · 23/02/2018 08:17

For those saying ceramic sinks get dirty, you do realise that it's very likely your stainless steel sink has the same dirt and germs just can't see it?!!
They should both need cleaning the same!

FeedtheTree · 23/02/2018 08:22

I'd always go for stainless steel. Flick of bleach and they come up looking brand new for years. Whereas white sinks scratch and stain.

MammaAgata · 23/02/2018 08:35

I have a ceramic Belfast sink, kitchen painted F&B French grey (similar to verre de terre you’re going for) and love the ‘look’ for a country style kitchen. I draining grooves in the left hand side of sink and put a rubber draining pad on it (Joseph do nice ones). The only thing I will say is the ceramic sink does get really dirty quickly. And it’s scratched. We’ve only had ours 2 years and it’s the dregs from cups of tea etc before going into dishwasher that really mark it. You can’t clean it with bleach as it takes the enamel off apparently. I put a scoop of vanish in mine and fill with hot water. That cleans it nicely. So, I would say the right hand sink, but like others do wonder how that’s going to look with a white counter top?

No 2 for me, I think the ceramic will look lovely with your colour scheme. We have similar and I think it looks lovely.

double I’m very envious of your super shiny clean sink! Blush mine rarely looks like that...

veuveo · 23/02/2018 09:35

First one I loved from Ikea, but didn't go with look for the new kitchen.
Second one is siligranit, which doesn't scratch, but looks like ceramic

Yes @veuveo I do and it's a darn sight easier with stainless, which doesn't chip and just needs some hot soapy water to clean it!

BubblesBuddy · 23/02/2018 13:44

I have had my Belfast double sink for 7 years. It was an expensive one. Not a scratch on it! Never broken anything in it! Stainless steel scratches much more easily. That’s fact I’m afraid. I sprinkle dishwasher powder on both and then mix in with a bit of hot water. Leave for about 20 mins. They sparkle.

I have just revived a wooden work surface in our flat. Sanding, waxing etc. Oil was useless. They are hard work and need constant renovation. Give me quartz or granite every time!

SheepySheepy · 23/02/2018 19:07

Does it not hurt your back using those Belfast sinks.

Exactly why I came on to say. #old.

SheepySheepy · 23/02/2018 19:25

Me that is!

mrsmonkey14 · 23/02/2018 23:26

Can I hijack to ask why a Belfast sink hurts your back?? Is it because they’re deeper than usual sinks? This thread is making me reconsider the double Belfast style sink I was considering!

SheepySheepy · 23/02/2018 23:40

Yes mrsm as far as I can tell, deeper, more bending down.
