Neighbours parking - diagram attached!

Was wondering if there was anything I could do about a neighbour parking here.
Basically you can see by the diagram that I live in a house with 2 parking spaces, one behind the other. My next door neighbour is the same set up, so they park one behind the other on their drive, but they have a big trailer on a van which protrudes onto the pavement (this is relevant!) Their van/car are green on the diagram and mine are blue.
Basically Mr BMW (red car) has moved in over the road, and as he only has one parking space on his drive next to his house (sorry diagram doesn’t show this), he parks his second car right opposite my driveway.
Because next door neighbours van/trailer is sticking out I can’t get a swing on my car to to turn sharply as I’m reversing, and because Mr BMW is parked opposite my drive I’m having to do a 5 point turn to get out of my drive.
This coupled with the fact that it’s pitch black in the morning and I live on a bend so can’t see what it coming is really stressing me out.
I know I should probably try and reverse in, but would still need to do a 5 point turn to get out forwards.
I’ve started parking on the road opposite where Mr BMW parks when he goes out, purely so I can just jump in my car and go at 5.30am.
Is there anything I can do re this parking situation?

I think you need to speak to your neighbours. It’s them that are causing the problem with their trailer extending past the end of their drive.

Wakeuptortoise · 20/02/2018 20:11

Green neighbours are obstructing pavement. They are at fault.

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:12

But I still think that even if their trailer wasn’t protruding I would have to do at least a 3 point turn to get past Mr BMW, and in fact when the neighbours van and trailer aren’t on the drive I can get off in just about one move sometimes if the BMW is parked a tiny bit more forward, as long as I mount the pavement when I am driving forwards after reversing, as again I need to get the swing to get round.
So surely I shouldn’t be having to mount a pavement or do a 5 point turn to get off my drive?

But even if green neighbours aren’t obstructing the pavement I still have to do a 3 point turn, or mount the pavement going forwards to get out in one movement.

Red BMW is parking legally on the road? Not on double yellow lines or across a drive? It’s the trailer that’s in the wrong. It shouldn’t be obstructing the pavement.

stoplickingthetelly · 20/02/2018 20:15

I agree mr BMW isn't doing anything wrong, but your neighbours are. It just feels like it's mr BMW's fault because he's new to the street. Your neighbour shouldn't be hanging over the pavement. They're the ones causing the problem really. I park outside my house like Mr BMW and wouldn't move my car further away just because another neighbour was being inconsiderate. I have kids to get in/out of car, work bags, shopping etc.

ferrier · 20/02/2018 20:15

Three or five point turn is fine. Neighbours shouldn't be overhanging the pavement but everything else is reasonable.

Lucked · 20/02/2018 20:16

Can you not reverse in at night? much easier to drive out in this scenario.

PhelanThePain · 20/02/2018 20:16

You could offer BMW man the space on the road outside your house. Would that make things easier? Otherwise I can’t see a solution. He is parking outside his own house. The other neighbors would probably object to him parking outside theirs for your convenience. Just get better at manoeuvring your car.

Longdistance · 20/02/2018 20:16

Park your car outside your house. Problem solved. No reversing with a car behind, and you get to piss off your new neighbours 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:21

Yeah I am parking outside my house at the moment as we live on a blind bend and the cars come hammering around, especially in rush hour. Sometimes Mr BMW mounts the pavement, which I know he shouldn’t, but that makes it easier for me to get out.
Sometimes he does park outside my house, Which I don’t mind.
It’s just a nightmare here re parking. It all depends where other people park and which spaces are left when people get home to determine who parks where.

In all fairness I only work 3 mornings a week, so when I need to get out at 5.30-6am I’m parking on the road but the rest of the time I don’t mind reversing out at 9.30am when it’s light and quiet.

I’d reverse into my drive then drive straight out. But surely not much traffic to worry about a 5 point turn at 530 am anyway?

namechangedtoday15 · 20/02/2018 20:27

I think you just have to grin & bear it. Reverse in. Do a 3 point turn in a morning. Are you seriously wanting to fall out with a neighbour over the 10 or 15 seconds it takes to reverse a metre or so in a morning?

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:27

Believe me, yesterday at 6am (as I could start work a bit later) I counted 8 cars whizzing past before I could even get off of my drive, and then my 5 point turn caused another 3 cars to have to queue and wait for me. It’s a main road through a housing estate, so everyone on the entire estate leaves by driving past my house.

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:29

It’s not about the extra time it takes me, it’s about cars hurtling around a blind bend and then finding me blocking the entire road in the pitch black! I’d rather not get smashed into!

namechangedtoday15 · 20/02/2018 20:29

At 6amHmm? I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:32

Regardless of what time it is, it’s still causing a danger to myself and other road users.
My husband has to leave at 8am with the kids in the car and he has the same problem. Cars speeding round a blind bend, him stuck in the middle of the road causing an obstruction, 2 kids in the car, plus a load of school kids walking in front and behind of his car when he’s trying to get off the drive.
He struggles more than I do!

snozzlemaid · 20/02/2018 20:33

We have similar where a neighbour parks opposite so it's difficult to reverse out so we reverse into the drive. So much easier to drive out.
If it's that dangerous reversing out, you should be reversing in instead.

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:36

I’m going to start trying to reverse in. The diagram obviously doesn’t show this, but there are fencing panels either side of our driveway with about an inch clearance either side, which is why I’ve been reluctant to reverse in. Should probably give it a go tho!

I have the same issue with blue BMW man even though when I bought my house it came with restrictive covenants stating that there was to be no parking on the road at all.

The kerb is dropped the whole way along my road but Mr Blue BMW seems to think that this is purely to make it easier for him to park his car.

When planning permission was granted for this estate the council carried out all sorts of surveys and safety where Mr Blue BMW parks was raised.

I am pissed off not only because I spent money on a house with a driveway that I cannot always use (depending on how he parks on the narrow road) but also because the police have told him that parking where he does is allowed.

starzig · 20/02/2018 20:41

Sorry. Don't see the problem. There is no rule that you need to make the turn in 3. I usually do 5-7 to turn my car around due to parked cars and street width. Take as many as you need.

namechangedtoday15 · 20/02/2018 20:43

I don't know what you want people to say OP. Mr BMW is perfectly entitled to park where he's parking. If it's a residential area with lots of children around, people shouldn't be speeding and it should be well lit enough that you should be able to drive out (forwards) out of your drive, maybe with a bit of manoeuvring because of Mr BMW and your trailer neighbour, without getting so upset about it. Certainly not something to fall out with your neighbours about.

parkingnightmare · 20/02/2018 20:46

I just wanted some perspectives on it.
General consensus is to just deal with it, so that is what I will do!!! Along with attempting to reverse on!
