An a complete novice so bear with me
Moved into a rented property. My landlord has refused to do anything about the backyard but it's in a state . As the pic shows , weeds , moss everywhere , dirty flagging, badly weathered walls etc. Now I don't have a huge amount of money to transform it but really want to make it as nice and as child friendly as possible . I have a budget of around £400 but can stretch to £500 at a push ( I know that isn't much !).
I have 3 dc- 12,11 and 2. The older 2 might want somewhere to sit outside when it's warm and the little one would probably love an outdoor toy or two like maybe a mud kitchen and a slide or a water table .
Where do I start ? I really want to make it clean, attractive and homely .
All suggestions appreciated .
Thanks .

@eloisesparkle it's facing west
Thanks everyone for the responses haven't gone through everything as just got back from a long day at work but will do as soon as I get the time. Someone's coming to help me paint the walls on the weekend and I have a jetwasher coming in next week Smile

Clean slabs will make an absolutely amazing difference.

FannyFifer · 14/02/2018 18:46

I would suggest jet washing before painting as all the dirt from slabs will spray all up the nice freshly painted walls.

Clutterbugsmum · 14/02/2018 19:28

I agree get the walls and floor jets washed first, and go from their.

If you do get a sandpit I try and get on with a lid so the local cats can't use it. Some thing like this.

I would some outdoor fairy lights to string across to add atmosphere at. What about some colourful outdoor beanbags or floor cushions to add colour.

Clutterbugsmum · 14/02/2018 19:29

Sorry there not their.

eloisesparkle · 14/02/2018 21:07

Oh OP - west facing, how lovely.
So lots of lovely barbeques on summer evenings.

Have arranged for the jetwashing to take place on the Saturday and will do the painting after- phew

I think the chairs are from Homebase - about £30. Keep us updated!

Lovely ! I think it is a great space. If you buy planters you can spray them with an outdoor friendly paint. I picked up a lovely Jack and Jill chair and painted it last year. Was a bargain. Will post a photo

OP you need to jet wash first. No point painting the walls first - jet wash is a messy job and the spray goes everywhere! All the muck from the flags will end up on your newly painted wall.

notangelinajolie · 15/02/2018 09:39

Also I would jet spray the walls too. The power should remove the flakey paint without you having to sand it off.

moonmaker · 15/02/2018 11:11

Definitely jetwashing first and have registered the tip about the stabilising solution . Am
So excited !

Watching with interest! Have a similar set up to the side of our house.

Billydessert · 15/02/2018 11:34

Your picture reminded me of this pic I'd saved on pinterest awhile ago. Weed killer and a good scrub down would be a great start.

You should just buy one. It's quite satisfying to do.

Littlelambpeep · 17/02/2018 18:17

That's so annoying !

wowfudge · 17/02/2018 18:34

Oh that's terrible - whereabouts are you? Perhaps someone on here can recommend someone reliable or lend you a pressure washer.

moonmaker · 17/02/2018 21:58

I've got someone else booked in for tomorrow. Hopefully they will turn up. Would consider buying one although I'd have nowhere to store it !
