My bathroom window - WWYD?

I have a wonderful sea view from 2 windows in my new house - DD's bedroom (lucky DD) and the bathroom window.

Except the bathroom window is frosted glass so the neighbors can't see in.

Now we are higher up than our neighbours so we only really have a privacy issue when in shower/bath. I want to replace the frosted glass with clear glass, & then fashion some kind of blind or curtain to close when necessary.

Just puzzling over how to best go about this - and was wondering WWYD in this situation?

photo to follow.

To be clear the issue is I can see sea view due to frosted glass. Sea views make me very happy.

Here's a pic.

I can't see the pic, but have you thought about window film? Look up Blossom and Brush, you can get some gorgeous film to put on the bottom half of clear glass

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 01/02/2018 14:19

why not just have a net curtain you can pull shut?

SoupDragon · 01/02/2018 14:21

Isn’t it just a case of buying a blind and putting it up?

100YearsOfVote · 01/02/2018 14:31

yes I'm thinking a blind might be the best way forward. Do you think I could put a blind just across the bottom part of the glass leaving the top exposed. I'll try and post the pic again.

Fritzy I've used that film very successfully in previous home - its was really wonderful. This is the opposite issue. I wish it was just peel off film, not frosted glass

soup I feel a bit like I might be overthinking this now Grin

NOt sure a blind would work with stuff on window sill - unless I put brackets on the wall so the blind went on this side of the window sill.

Curtain seems a bit fussy. Would need more than a net curtain for night time.

Our bathroom blinds are secured on the top bit. You can pull them all the way up.

100YearsOfVote · 01/02/2018 14:43

OK, going high might work

I meant replace the window with clear glass and put the film on the bottom half, that wouldn't work with the window you have though I can see. I would replace the frosted unit with clear glass and then just have a 'cafe bar' net curtain on the bottom, even though I'm not a fan of net curtains. You can get blinds that go from the bottom up though, I'll have a google and see if I can find what I mean

FritzyMousey · 01/02/2018 14:46

Bottom up blind

100YearsOfVote · 01/02/2018 14:48

but I want to see out the window so film wont work. Net curtains are see though at night so they aren't an option either. I just need to cover the window when we are showering.

blinds that come up from the bottom sound interesting though.

very interesting possibility Fritzy thank you!!!

If it is a side window then you might not be allowed to due to planning and privacy of neighbours. Otherwise go clear glass and blind. That frosted stuff is see through at night when you have the lights on anyway!

100YearsOfVote · 01/02/2018 14:55

ooh lovely!

If you were thinking of replacing the whole window rather than just the bottom double glazed unit, you can now get slimline frames that would give you even more view back.

Belindabelle · 01/02/2018 15:19

Is DD bedroom window on the same wall as the bathroom widow? Or is the bathroom window the only window on the side? Be careful that your neighbours don't complain about the clear glass disrupting their privacy.
Sometimes frosted glass is a condition of planning.

Google top down bottom up blinds like these
www.crosbyblinds.co.uk/shop/luxaflex-blinds/luxaflex-duette-shades/top-down-bottom-up-25mm-duettes

We had them on our back door in our last house and it was great. Can’t remember where I ordered it from though.

Spam88 · 01/02/2018 15:24

I think you're probably overthinking it OP Grin

You could get a Perfect Fit blond to go in the bottom pane though? Stuff on the window sill wouldn't be an issue then.

ThoughACandleBurnsNoOnesHome · 01/02/2018 15:32

Came on to say Perfectfit blinds but see someone has already suggested. Alternatively you could look up Intu blinds. They fit on th glass pane rather than the wall. Much smaller and less obtrusive

Vitalogy · 01/02/2018 15:55

We definitely need a photo when finished. Smile

whiskyowl · 01/02/2018 15:59

How big is your budget?

Because the obvious - but expensive - answer here might be to reconfigure the space in your house so the bathroom is no longer a bathroom but a space where you can actually enjoy the view.

DesperateHouseknife · 01/02/2018 16:02

Get switchable glass. Not as expensive as you might think considering you are going to change the glass anyway.
