Hello, we're are you moving from? I'm living in Chorley moving to leyland, but in past year relocated from London. Buckshaw village has Costa, few pubs and the gin place and would be commutable. Tarleton is nice for café and pub, also has express bus to Southport and Preston.
If you are thinking of having children in future chorley schools seem really over subscribed.

IceCreamIceCream · 01/02/2018 13:40

You might like clitheroe? About 30 min drive and lots of nice shops etc

Lowri87 · 01/02/2018 17:54

Ormskirk ticks all those boxes and is about a 20min drive at rush hour.

SoozeyHoozey · 01/02/2018 18:44

Penwortham is a lovely area and not too far from the city centre.

NurseryFightClub · 01/02/2018 18:58

Yes Penwortham as above is nice. Is Ormskirk really twenty mins from Preston hospital?

SoozeyHoozey · 01/02/2018 19:14

Ormskirk is 40 mins on a good day! Bad route to drive to Preston.

mrswarthog · 01/02/2018 19:17

I used to do it regularly Nursery, A59 can be a problem, but the motorway was always ok. It's only half an hour by train although they're a nightmare.

Lowri87 · 01/02/2018 23:02

What amenities are there in penwortham?

Lowri87 · 01/02/2018 23:07

Clitheroe looks lovely im hoping to visit what is the traffic like Around there to preston and samlesbury?

NurseryFightClub · 02/02/2018 06:03

@lowri, re Penwortham loads of independent shops, couple of good restaurants, especially salvatoris, good bus links. Don't think there is a train station. Longton/Walmer Bridge is a bit further but could be an option?

lilz7788 · 02/02/2018 09:23

I have some friends who live in Longton which is lovely. A few lovely pubs and nice restaurants not too far away. Great area too if you're interested in starting a family. I don't know if you've considered closer to Bolton, but only about 30 minutes or so to Salmesbury, places like Egerton, Bromley Cross and Belmont are supposed to be lovely too. We are looking to relocate to here as my partner is originally from Preston too.

Lowri87 · 04/02/2018 18:51

So we are planing on visititng preston next week.
This is our short list of potential places we would like to live,
Clytheroe
Longridge
Garstang
Penwortham
Lyhtam
Fulwood
Worsley
Poulten le fylde
Broughton
Buckshaw

Are these nice areas? also to visit during the weekend logisticaly in what order would we visit them.
Thank you!

My other half said fulwood isnt that nice at all. A friend got married in clitheroe, its gorgeous!

RandomMess · 04/02/2018 19:43

I don't know all those areas but Lytham and Garstang have a good repution. Garstang is a quiet market town so not sure if there is much to do in the evenings apart from the pubs?

I personally don't like Preston Centre itself - can't put my finger on why though!

NurseryFightClub · 04/02/2018 20:00

Penwortham is fairly close to buckshaw, about fifteen mins, you could go through leyland on the way too.

AConvivialHost · 04/02/2018 20:01

Garstang/Broughton - traffic is horrendous, although they are planning a by-pass
Clitheroe - lovely village, but suffered badly from floods in 2015, so be careful when looking at houses close to the river/on flood plain
Buckshaw - seems popular with families, but built on old armaments factory site and I have heard that people have been told not to grow veg in their gardens, so I think I'd avoid it
Longridge - very nice, but journey into Preston is horrendous - about 6 speed cameras and a small bridge where you have to yield to oncoming traffic, so can take ages to get over it in rush hour

Penwortham would be my choice from those you have listed, but I would seriously consider Longton - bit more of a village feel and nice pubs

nov1ce · 04/02/2018 20:04

Already on your list, Lytham and Poulton are where the cool kids live!

RandomMess · 04/02/2018 20:19

Think the bypass is finished isn't it???

FleeBee · 04/02/2018 20:53

I can absolutely promise you it is safe to grow vegetables in gardens in Buckshaw Village - should you want to. Be warned that the traffic to BAE can be a nightmare in the morning.
Tarleton is lovely
Clitheroe is gorgeous but expensive
Parts of Leyland are great & good value for money

TheUncommonReader · 04/02/2018 20:53

Clitheroe isn’t a village, I think you are thinking of Whalley, AConcivialHost. They had bad floods on Boxing day 2015. Clitheroe doesn’t flood as it is on a hill up from the Ribble.

Clitheroe is lovely, lots of small shops, and from BAE it is 20 mins but into Preston is longer. Preston traffic is horrible at rush hour.

Lowri87 · 04/02/2018 21:15

Do you know what the traffic would be like from both to samlesbury and preston hospital?

OP posts:
TheUncommonReader · 04/02/2018 21:36

It is 20 mins from BAE systems to Clitheroe- maybe 30 in rush hour. Preston hospital you’d head up the M6 and come off onto the M55 and down the A6. I’ve never done that at rush hour so couldn’t say. Probably 35 mins with no traffic.

You’ll find traffic an issue however you approach Preston, no matter where you decide to live.

TheDrsDocMartens · 04/02/2018 22:09

Lancaster? 30-40 mins, lovely place to live and plenty going on

NurseryFightClub · 05/02/2018 07:02

Not sure what Garstang is like, but it's just popped up on my fb, they have an ice cream festival in July!! I want to move there now (although perhaps we will just visit)
