Buying kitchen appliances - Neff vs Bosch vs AEG vs others

Loueytb3 · 21/01/2018 13:11

Over the next month I need to decide which appliances to buy for a new kitchen, and there are a lot. We need 2 ovens, microwave, warming drawer, dishwasher, induction hob, extractor, dishwasher, american fridge freezer and a washing machine.

Last time we did this, we ended up with all Neff appliances apart from the fridge freezer which was a Samsung. I get the impression that Neff has gone downhill somewhat since then, but I really don't know how good the other brands are.

Is there one particular brand that is particularly good, or one to steer clear of? If you have recommendations for (in particular) hobs and ovens it would be much appreciated.

Bought a NEFF dishwasher 3 years ago. It's been used pretty intensively but the circulation pump is getting noisier and noisier. I think it's only a matter of time...
If you can, get a Miele DW. I will when this one goes pop (assuming a repair not cost effective).

mysteryfairy · 21/01/2018 13:24

Don't put the washing machine in the kitchen if you can avoid it! I would probably get Miele though in 22 years of owning washing machines with number of children hitting three seven years into that time I've actually had two machines - both Bosch, which is a pretty good endorsement. My dishwasher is also Bosch and has been going for a decade or more.

We recently replaced a Samsung American fridge freezer with a Fisher Paykel one with French doors. I like it far more for appearance, layout, robustness of fittings, but can't attest for longetivity yet!

Loueytb3 · 21/01/2018 13:35

Washing machine is going in the utility and needs to stand up to a LOT of use. We've had a Bosch one before - will look at Miele thank you.

I also like the look of the French door style fridge freezers. We want one that has a water/ ice dispenser so that will limit our choice a bit.

Dishwasher/washing machine/tumble dryer we went Miele. Induction job, ovens and fridge freezer went Siemens. Very happy with all of them.

I hardly use a microwave, so just got a freestanding Samsung one that sits in a cupboard.

Willswife · 21/01/2018 13:42

Hob not job!

Diseno · 21/01/2018 13:54

Samsung are doing some nice ovens at the moment.
also come with 5yrs parts and labour, added bonus
have a look at the NV73J7740RS
They also do a vertual flme induction that looks rather nice.
Fridge freezer - Fisher Paykel offer some nice ones

Miele if the budget stretches. Otherwise we have always loved our Bosch appliances & they've outlived any other. We're going all Bosch for our new kitchen (good prices in JL atm - my kitchen lady said she'd take the details & find them cheaper then sent me a text the same day to say buy now, those are great prices!)

I love my Bosch dishwasher. It’s so quiet I sometimes have to go back and check I’ve remembered to switch it on! Also have two Bosch ovens which are really good. Bosch extractor I’m not so impressed with but we had to have a recirculating gone and I think they just aren’t that great. Recently got a Miele tumblr dryer but quite disappointed if I’m honest. Wish I’d gone for a Boasch.

Whattodowithaminute · 21/01/2018 20:58

We bought a which subscription to help with some of our decision making. On the back of that I’m going for a Miele dishwasher, Bosch tumble dryer, Samsung washing machine, but beyond that haven’t found it that helpful. They don’t seem to rate American F/F and I’m struggling to make a decision on whether the job/ovens etc should all come from the same range. It’s a mine field....
Do some retailers do packages or negotiate prices if you’re buying so many appliances like this?
Good luck....

Loueytb3 · 21/01/2018 21:45

Whatodo - I've been trying to sign up to Which tonight but for some reason it won't go through. I was also wondering if it was possible to negotiate a further discount if you are buying several appliances from the same company. But I need to decide what we want first. Too much choice!

We had a look at Miele washing machines this afternoon but I'm not sure I can justify paying the extra cost (nearly double) versus Bosch when they both have a 10yr warranty. I'm finding it quite hard to find somewhere that has a decent selection of ovens on display and which are working. I want to actually see them on and work out how easy they are to use.

I would go with Bosch because I asked the repair man and he says he gets the least calls from Bosch appliances.

Also I would get a separate tall fridge and freezer side by side instead of the American style.

Good luck.

sdaisy26 · 21/01/2018 23:25

I'm not actually sure how helpful which is. Their reviews are often fairly old, they have limited models & seem to value fairly random things sometimes in their reviews. You can get so many customer on line reviews nowadays anyway.

We've had a Hotpoint Aquarius dishwasher 13years and I got it cheap because it was scratched. I'll be buying the integrated version for the new kitchen. When our current American Fridge Freezer dies, I'm planning on replacing it with a Samsung one with freezer drawers as they have more space. I like the look of integrated, but love the ice & water dispenser of the American one. I'm still undecided with the oven, I think I'm leaning towards AEG as it seems to be well priced but with a good warranty. I got put off if Neff when the door was pulled off on Bake Off! Induction hob I'm also looking at AEG as I want flexible zones and they offer that. We have the Samsung Ecobubble washing machine & it's great

Whattodowithaminute · 22/01/2018 07:42

Appliance city look like they do multi buy deals so I’m sure others will as well

Salene · 22/01/2018 07:51

Absolutely NEFF thee customer service is fantastic and even if it breaks out of warranty they will allow you to buy a new one for £35 , I know it’s happened twice touse over last 10 years

YorkshireTea86 · 22/01/2018 13:56

We got Samsung ovens and induction hob when we did our kitchen in october, so far I've been really pleased with them. We already had a Samsung fridge freezer. I didn't intend to go for all Samsung they just had the things that I wanted, pyro clean, telescopic shelves, flexi zone on the hob and slider rather than plus and minus buttons.
We got nearly £80 off the ovens using one of those chat boxes because we were buying 2 at once. Worked out at roughly 10%.

whiskyowl · 22/01/2018 14:57

Don't buy a Bosch dishwasher! Mine gave me electric shocks if it was touched at the same time as any other piece of metal in the kitchen. I was really ill at the time, in and out of hospital - and Bosch didn't give a shit!

Miele all the way!

whiskyowl · 22/01/2018 14:58

(John Lewis, from whom I bought the dishwasher, actually ended up paying to fit it. "Bosch don't do anything beyond the absolute letter of what they are mandated to do - and they don't do goodwill" was what the rep said to me on the phone).

whiskyowl · 22/01/2018 14:58

*fix, not fit

4yearsnosleep · 22/01/2018 17:19

@YorkshireTea86 what types of oven & hob did you go for from Samsung? That sounds similar to what we're after x

YorkshireTea86 · 22/01/2018 20:20

The ovens were
NV70F7584DS and NV70F7796ES. Only one is our clean, it also has the dual cook divider so makes one oven into 2 smaller ones.
I can't find the hob, it was from ao but it went out of stock not long after we bought it.

4yearsnosleep · 22/01/2018 21:22

Thank you x

bouncydog · 22/01/2018 21:35

All neff in kitchen. AEG washing machine and drier in utility. AEF from JL when they had an offer on. - got £100 cash back on each and 5 year warranty thrown in. Best deal on the Neff was from our kitchen supplier. We got £500 cash back and the deal they gave us was still cheaper than anywhere else without the £500 off! We love all of it.

bouncydog · 22/01/2018 21:37

Oh and we bought all the high energy saving appliances and have already noticed the difference in electricity bills.

Loueytb3 · 23/01/2018 09:57

@4yearsnosleep - I don't think I've seen that episode of bake off! I can't work out what the supposed advantage is of the slide and hide doors. DH thinks they are a gimmick. Having said that I would never buy hotpoint again after having 2 rubbish washing machines from them and that was before their appliances started catching fire.

@YorkshireTea86 - I will look at those thanks. We also want slider and flexizone on the hob which narrows it down a bit.

Has anyone got a Fisher Paykal fridge freezer? I like the look of them and they are apparently a Which best buy, although I still cant get on their website to check the full details. I think it's either that or a samsung one.

Also, one of the kitchen shops we went to showed us a new AEG hob where the extractor is integrated into the hob. It looked very cool but as it's so new, I'm not sure whether to go for it or not.

We are hoping to go to magnet and wren kitchens later to have a look at their appliances (don't worry - I have no intention of getting a kitchen from either of them!)
