What's a resonable price for a packing/moving service?

Just got a quote back from Pickfords and it is mega expensive! We only have a 1 bed flat, all wardrobes are built in and we?re leaving all our white goods. Quoted price is £1700.

Ours cost just under £700 to move everything from our 4 bedroom town house. That doesn't include packing - we are packing everything ourselves.

Well the quote for removal with us packing was still £1400.

just had quotes for moving - just over £600 without packing, huge lorry - thats with j smith and son and an online quote of £500 again with packing - moving from one borough to next borough - about 6 miles?

Sunyshineymummy , in that case I'd say they don't want the job . Perhaps they have others around the same time and it would be a hassle to fit you in . Are you in a high rise or somewhere particularly awkward ?! How much notice ? Look elsewhere or get another quote and do what we did to ring back with the lower one as comparison and negotiate it down.

those big national chains are a rip off - a local indepenedent one will be much cheaper. We just moved from a 4 bed house plus garage with loads of furniture (american fridge, huge bed, 3 sofas, 2 armchairs, washing machine, tumble drier etc etc) with full packing service and 122 boxes for a shade under £1000 just outside London. I would shop around if I were you.

No high rise (third floor with lift). Have fed back and also started to get quotes fron others. Have told Pickfords we will not be going with them unless they reduce price.
