Neff Combi Oven / Microwave

I'm looking at getting some sort of Neff double oven combo for new kitchen, initially thought slide n hide plus combi microwave. However, a friend has just had one installed and doesn't recommend at all - says it needs to cool after oven use before it can be used as a mw and fiddly to use. Any experiences here?

I'm keen on it but def want to be able to blast things in mw easily.

Thanks!

Sorry - that last (double) post was in response to whisky.

The combi oven has a warming plate setting btw.

Oh, it might well be then crumb! It just looks a lot like the cover panel I have for my Ikea microwave, but that's (obviously) not Neff!

From what I can make out, cover panels depend slightly on the tower you have and its interior configuration?

SleepFreeZone · 02/01/2018 12:58

Yep we had continuous strips. Probably the only thing that's gone right with the kitchen so far! 😂

Crumbelina · 02/01/2018 13:01

Oh, that look fabulous Sleep! I think I'll opt for the slim warming drawer if the combi also has that function as they'll line up nicely.

It's taken me an age to finally decide what I want. I was going to opt for two singles and a combi/warming drawer but not convinced I'll use the second oven.

I'm glad I've helped please don't hate me if you end up hating it 😬

We've got the Neff induction hob as well which we really like. Somehow we've ended up going quite monochrome in the kitchen which was totally unintentional but looks pretty good.

I've got a neff combi with a full size neff oven below, both pyrolytic and neither hide and slide.
Very pleased with them both, no problems with the microwave at all. I only wish I'd had a warming drawer too, for the odd occasions I'm entertaining and using both ovens.

I have a Neff multi function oven microwave - but not the sliding door model. It’s brilliant - the best oven I’ve ever had- Except for the on/off spot on the touch panel ( which does not like my small fingers and often will not work - although two thumbs usually gets it to cooperate). I don’t use all the functions, but do use the microwave and the fan oven a lot. I have a separate full size oven, but use the smaller one far more. I can use the microwave when the oven is cooling down - just be careful to use a container that will not melt- Pyrex etc. I cook a lot by microwave - having lived in a hot country years ago - ( using the hob or oven would have made the kitchen even warmer). Cooking complex meals such as Christmas dinner needs a bit of planning as I forget how slow my big oven is to warm up in comparison to the little Neff, and I have to use the hob to steam veg. I’ve had my Neff a year now and get along nicely ( apart from the grumpy touch panel!)

Something to consider with a combi oven and microwave, and I don’t know if this applies to all brands or not. Mine is a Siemens so the same manufacturer as Neff.

To replace the bulb in the combi requires the whole oven to be removed from its housing for the bulb to be replaced. Yes really.

Mine is mounted above the main oven and it’s not something DH and I have tried to tackle. It seems crazy to have to get an engineer in to change the bulb.

So just something to bear in mind and check if it’s likely to bother you.

Crumbelina · 02/01/2018 14:00

Hmm, so looks like if I don't have the pyrolytic cleaning then the models are around £700. If I do want this function (and I really would prefer it) then the models are over £1k - eek!

SleepFreeZone · 02/01/2018 14:12

That's depressing Deux. No idea about whether that will be the same for the model I have.

maggiso · 02/01/2018 14:34

I should have said my combi is almost full size ( it takes the same size shelves as my standing cooker but at 45 cm is not as tall) and mounted at low chest height ( so I can see in and reach ok as I am a shortee and have a dodgy back) in a Tower with storage above and below. We considered a warming drawer underneath it, ( which would have put the combi higher- not as good for me) but I am grateful for the extra storage as storage in our kitchen is limited by lots of windows. The height means I can lift things out and it’s the same height as the work surface opposite. The door on my model opens down to hold dishes which makes swopping dish positions easier. It does have defrost and plate warming separately and came from the range aimed at businesses. I previously had a small multi function counter top microwave and fitted fan oven and hob in tiny kitchen.
It did take a little time to get used to the extra press to select microwave (or other function), but it’s easier for standard fan oven than my old countertop combi- and cooks a lot better too as it is nearly full size. The turkey would have fitted- but no room for extra shelves.
For those planning a floor standing wide range style oven - I made a mistake in buyinga side by side 90 cm oven. The second oven is very narrow- frankly too narrow to be useful, I’ve had to search out very narrow trays etc, and my dinner plates are just to wide unless warmed on end! Just putting in a warning.

Thanks for all your comments. I'm going to go for a double built in oven and separate built in microwave. I def want a built in mw rather than one on the side, but only if it works!

Just to say we love ours! Slide and hide, combi and warming drawer. No problems with any of them and the pyrolitic function is amazing!

OrangeSunset · 05/01/2018 12:45

We have a single oven, combi small one and shallow warming draw, all NEFF. I love the combi and use the micro function for warming milk, cooking veg and defrosting. I also use it a lot for cooking if just cooking on one shelf as it’s smaller and (I hope) more energy efficient than the bigger one. It’s is pyrolytic - amazing and well worthy if it you can afford it. The only annoyance is that we have managed to spill milk between the panes of glass on the door. I’m sure there’s a way to get at it but I need to read the manual.

I do agree that lots of packaged microwave foods specifiy a 700w temp but I just do it for a bit longer on 600w. Also they are changing to be more 600\1000w.

We got ours ex-display on eBay.

haggisaggis · 05/01/2018 12:56

I'm ending up with 2 single slide & hides with the combi microwave in the middle with warming drawer beneath. I did not want a combi but they seem to have discontinued the larger microwave that would fit above the warming drawer. I'm a bit annoyed as do not need 3 ovens - but did want a built in microwave.
What's this about strips to fit between? Do I need them?

DOLLYDAYDREAMER · 05/01/2018 20:21

Have single multifunction self cleaning oven, small warming dwr and micro combi. love all of them. But by Bosch which have full width doors so no strips needed (not hide n slide) but wasnt bothered with it. as said above. no prob using micro after oven as long as use heat proof container. most ready meals say micro or oven so not a problem. the thing about micro levels can be confusing because 1000 watts in a little freestanding micro is mega quick but when the oven is bigger inside it slows down so more equiv to 800 watts. the microwaves get dissapated in the bigger area. its just trail and error with microwaving ready meals because its not set like saying 30 mins at 200c

OctoberOctober · 05/01/2018 21:26

Had a look at them today and do think that the single ovens look better - arghh!

No one else seems to have an issue with the microwave function, wondering if that is not really an issue...

I love our slide and hide and combi options. I needed it to be a decent microwave but wanted the additional oven and it’s worked really well. It’s not a super powerful microwave so does take a bit longer but not so as you’d really notice.
I cooked the Christmas turkey crown in the combi too (standard oven function though) and it worked really well.

I’d highly recommend. It’s saved a lot of space in a small kitchen and given me a lot if flexibility

0SometimesIWonder · 05/01/2018 21:34

I love my Neff combi and use it every day for microwaving and at least three times a week for conventional cooking.
Don’t think I’ve microwaved directly after using it as conventional oven so can’t comment on that.

goingtotown · 06/01/2018 09:19

I’ve got the Neff Combi CR17MR02NOB. It’s positioned above my Neff single oven.
I find the Combi difficult to clean, as the drop down door gets in the way. A Slide n hide door would be much better.
