Thinking of one of these for our spare room. It would only be used maybe a dozen nights a year but would two adults fit comfortably?

no, at least stretch out to a std double, 4ft6!

Unless you never want visitors.

SavoyCabbage · 08/12/2017 21:07

No, not comfortably.

loobylou10 · 08/12/2017 21:36

Yes my son has one and if it was an occasional bed it would be fine

soundsystem · 08/12/2017 21:46

Not unless they're quite small adults. I occasionally share one with my 3-year-old and usually wake up with an elbow or a foot digging in to me...

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2017 21:57

I would go for a 3ft trundle bed instead if you can. When both beds are out there may not be much room to move around but at least you get a good nights sleep.

rainsbows · 10/12/2017 07:20

The room is small. We need to maximise space as much as we can. Dh and I tried one in JL yesterday and it seemed fine. Especially for just an odd over nighter. It's only 6" smaller than regular double.

wowfudge · 10/12/2017 08:02

It might be only six inches, but it makes a difference. That's why king size beds are so much more comfortable for two people than a double.

rainsbows · 10/12/2017 08:33

But there's a whole foot between double to king. Only 6" between small double to double.

CrazyHairSister · 10/12/2017 08:35

Both DCs have them, and they are perfectly fine for an occasional two person sharing.

QuitMoaning · 10/12/2017 08:38

No, it is 6 inches. A king size is 5ft.

chicaguapa · 10/12/2017 08:38

Can you get a 2ft6 bed with a trundle that makes a 5ft bed when occasionally needed?

There's 6ins between a double and a kingsize. It does make a difference tbh.

rainsbows · 10/12/2017 08:39

Small double 4ft
Double 4ft 6inches
King 5ft
Super king 6ft

OP posts:
rainsbows · 10/12/2017 08:40

But that means each adult only gets 3 extra inches!!

DP and I were waiting to move house and had got rid of our king size bed as we were buying a new one. The move was delayed when the seller became ill. We ended up sharing a 4 foot bed for months and we were fine ( we are not small) It was quite cosy but sort of romantic!

rainsbows · 10/12/2017 08:42

Dh and I have a 5ft
Both young kids have 3ft singles
This 4ft is purely for occasional overnight guests and seems perfectly substantial for this.

OP posts:
sandgrown · 10/12/2017 08:43

In a standard double each adult only has the width of a cot.

Crumbs1 · 10/12/2017 08:43

A small double is fine for single guests. It’s fine for young couples who want to snuggle up (we used to manage in a single) but for ‘proper’adult couples then it’s not going to be comfortable. A standard double would give a bit more room - even if it had to go against a wall to fit in.

rainsbows · 10/12/2017 08:44

What's a proper adult couple?!!

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 10/12/2017 08:45

My mum and dad have a 4 foot double which DH and I share when we stay there. We cope but it is swuashy (especially for 6'2" DH whose feet seem to stick out of bed.)

NapQueen · 10/12/2017 08:46

I presume she means a couple who are too long in the tooth to need to snuggle in like a Levis ad. You know, adults who sleep properly because they share every night.

MirandaWest · 10/12/2017 08:46

DH and I are 45 and 42 but only been together 5 years and do like to snuggle Grin.

superram · 10/12/2017 08:47

It’s fine, we have one in our spare room (with hydraulic lift up so I can hide crap underneath). We are not obese but my 6ft Dad and average mum sleep no problem.

rainsbows · 10/12/2017 08:51

Height is irrelevant, it's the same length whether it's a double or small double

OP posts:
HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/12/2017 08:53

It'll be absolutely fine for occasional use. Might be a bit much every night but a few days a year then no problem.

MirandaWest · 10/12/2017 08:54

Dhs legs seem to go on a slant and they fit in better in a king sized bed. He may be odd though.

Whatever please make sure it's a nice mattress - my mum and dads one is lumpy and not nice
