We are going to start building work soon and I can't decide what to have downstairs.

Tiling in kitchen/utility and carpet in lounge?

Karndean in kitchen/utility?

But what about the hallway? The hallway is my biggest problem.

What have you got?

Mainly ancient parquet. Some oak in more modern part of house. Slate tiles in kitchen, utility and boot room. Ceramic tiles in lavatory.
No fitted carpets downstairs just rugs.

Tiles everywhere downstairs and bathrooms, wood upstairs.

Why is Karndean better than laminate?

Entrance hall - tiles. Bedrooms, hall, living room and dining room - carpets. Bathrooms and cloakroom - tiles with underfloor heating.
Kitchen and conservatory - Amtico with underfloor heating. Utility - disgusting flotex that’s been down 15 years still as good as new and will be ripped up and replaced shortly!!

I have the same pale matte porcelain tiles in the hallway, downstairs toilet and through to the kitchen. Carpet in the lounge, stairs, landing and bedrooms and different ceramic tiles in upstairs bathroom and ensuite.

Works for us. I like wooden floors and might change the lounge to wood if when the carpet gets trashed.

We are buying our house at the moment it has carpet everywhere which I cannot do with. Downstairs hallway, my office/library music room, livingroom all wooden floorboards. The breakfast room and kitchen need to be knocked through so hopefully will be wood. No idea what to do in the utility room but downstairs bathroom will be tiled. Stairs and upstairs Hall way will be wood floorboards. All kids bedrooms will keep carpet. Upstairs bathroom will be tiled and our room wood. We have a lot to do
