Flooring - what kind do you have in EVERY room?

We are going to start building work soon and I can't decide what to have downstairs.

Tiling in kitchen/utility and carpet in lounge?

Karndean in kitchen/utility?

But what about the hallway? The hallway is my biggest problem.

What have you got?

Dark grey slate-effect ceramic tiles hallway and kitchen
Darkish oak living/dining room and landing
'Natural' sisal bedrooms and stair runner
Black and white ceramic tiles bathroom and downstairs WC

WhichJob · 17/10/2017 22:24

Loving all the answers!

We could Karndean through hall, kitchen and utility and carpet in the lounge but I can't decide if I like Karndean or hate it!

I like same all through as much as possible
Makes it seem bigger and more flowy and pulled together.
Is reclaimed timber an option?

millifiori · 17/10/2017 22:46

Parquet in hall.
Wooden floor in kitchen.
Carpets in all other living areas
padded lino in bathrooms.

DramaAlpaca · 17/10/2017 22:49

Tiles in kitchen, hallway and utility.

Solid wood flooring everywhere else.

No carpets anywhere, even upstairs, we don't like them.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 17/10/2017 23:09

Varnished wood in hallway, living room and kitchen.

Tiles in floor.

Carpet upstairs apart from third bedroom.

Christmasconfusion · 17/10/2017 23:25

We have something called Concreate throughout the ground floor. It's a system of concrete tiles that slot together in the same way as engineered wood does. It works well as we've opened the house up so helps the flow from room to room. Also hardwearing in the kitchen and hallway. Carpet on stairs and in bedrooms, tiles in bathrooms.

Karndean - every room. Same wood effect planking all through the ground floor, different types in the bedrooms and bathroom. There are lots of designs to choose from.

Carpet on the stairs and landing.

BroomstickOfLove · 18/10/2017 14:28

Bamboo in sitting room, kitchen and dining room. Vinyl in the bathrooms. Carpet in the stairs and most bedrooms. Cork in one bedroom.

happygirly1 · 18/10/2017 15:01

We've recently put down the same wood laminate flooring throughout the entire downstairs - porch, living room, dining room, conservatory, kitchen, pantry and downstairs loo.

Stairs, landing and bedrooms all carpet and bathroom is vinyl.

AnnabelleLecter · 18/10/2017 15:08

Solid oak in hall, utility, office, conservatory, sitting room.
Carpet in bedrooms, stairs living room.
Tiles in kitchen diner.
Bathrooms vinyl.

WhichJob · 18/10/2017 17:46

Is it better to have the same flooring so it 'flows' or would going from engineered wood to tiles in the next room not be a problem?

Real wood throughout downstairs with large rugs in living room for coziness. Carpets upstairs except bathrooms which are tiled.

AalyaSecura · 18/10/2017 18:24

Karndean for the whole ground floor. Going to put a rug in the living room as well. Had it installed a couple of weeks ago and am really pleased with it! Just got to settle the bill now! And buy a robot vacuum cleaner now that it's all hard flooring!

SilverSpot · 18/10/2017 18:48

Thresh in the small parlour

Best answer ever!

Baxdream · 18/10/2017 18:53

How much is karndean/Amtico? What is the appeal? I’m nervous that it will look like cheap limo?
We’d love parquet but it’s about 65sq metres so it’s going to be pricy!

CannotEvenThink · 18/10/2017 19:03

Bedrooms are carpet. Fairly hard wearing stuff for kids and silky soft stuff for us.

Bathrooms tiles

Stairs carpet.

Hallway solid wood (tbh this is because there was just enough left from living room to do it)

Living room solid wood.

Kitchen tiles

Dining room (well ok it is open plan to kitchen) engineered wood.

Utility doesn't have a floor yet. Isn't really a utility yet. Just has the bits of what will be a utility dumped in it awaiting the day we get units and put it all together.

Cellar carpet tiles to allow easy access to the sub pump.

Hoppinggreen · 18/10/2017 19:04

Laminate all downstairs
Sheet vinyl in all bedrooms except ours
Vinyl planks in our room and ensuite
Carpet on stairs and landing

SheSparkles · 18/10/2017 19:05

Solid maple through the whole downstairs
Carpet on stairs and upstairs hall
Carpet in 2 bedrooms
Laminate in 2 bedrooms
Lino in bathroom
Laminate in ensuite

Blankscreen · 18/10/2017 19:58

Our karndean was £70 per square metre fitted.

I wanted herring bone parguet but the flooring guy put me off having real wood in the kitchen utility and loo and I didn't want a mix of flooring. Karndean worked for what we wanted. It's actually really warm.and nice.to walk on with bare feet.

We got a rug on our sitting room which breaks it up a bit

pallisers · 18/10/2017 20:00

hardwood floors everywhere except the bathrooms which are tiled (except downstairs lav which is hardwood). Downstairs is oak and upstairs fir. All original to the house so more than 100 years old.

We have rugs as well.

JKR123 · 18/10/2017 20:05

If money wasn't an option I would probably have solid slate in the kitchen and Berber carpet in a neutral colour in the rest of the house. I love the look of Berber and it's very hard wearing

Tatlerer · 18/10/2017 20:17

'brick in the buttery, flags in the hall' sounds like the start of a rousing hymn.

All together now!

BRICK IN THE BUTTERY, FLAGS IN THE HALL...

Baxdream · 18/10/2017 20:21

Thanks that’s really helpful. £70 is definitely over budget 😢 we’re having underfloor heating too so I’m not too worried about how cold the flooring is..
I’m the same, I really want it to flow as it’ll all be openplan apart from the lounge and snug (carpet) and the utility/boot room and cloakroom will be Lino I think.
That’s exactly the type of parquet I want 😭
