Is white gloss handleless kitchen naff?

The house is a 60's semi that we're refurbishing to rent out (for the first year or two anyway).

Kitchen will not be an expensive one - i.e from Wickes or soemwhere similar. We want something contemporary with fairly generic appeal, but I'm now wondering if white gloss handleless is a little too commonplace/naff/predictable. I kind of like the soft greys etc but think they will date a lot faster.

Opinions / suggestions please? Thanks.

All kitchens date. High gloss, shaker etc. I don't know that white gloss will date faster or slower than grey or cream gloss.

Certainly a gloss modern kitchen goes well with a 60s house.

I think I might go for cream just because there are so damn many white ones.

Should probably add that I don't actually like high gloss, but that's not really the point.

White gloss for a rental is absolutely fine.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/10/2017 13:24

Well if you have a kitchen which was never in fashion I guess it won't date. Grin

I’m trying to figure out what was never in fashion.

Yellow kitchens.

I never remember them being a thing.

How about a framed slab door?
has no grooves just raised edges so still easy to clean

I have a mint green kitchen, not sure that was ever in fashion!

And my step mum has a 1950s yellow kitchen which I think looks amazing.

Wow a framed slab door! Something to look in to, thank you very much.

My kitchen so far. Very pleased with it, tiles and floor still to choose. I think white subway tiles with a grey grout but have no idea what colour floor to get

I had a white gloss kitchen put into our 60s house 10 years ago. It wasn't high end but still looks as good as new. It's also very easy to keep clean.

3luckystars · 17/10/2017 08:46

Subway tile sounds lovely, what are you going to put on the floor?

There are too many choices..

MadameJosephine · 17/10/2017 19:21

I think Karndean flooring, maybe in slate effect?

Any suggestions gratefully received. Too many decisions! The painters are coming next week and I still haven’t decided what colour to paint the walls!

Handleless white gloss is a bit 10 years ago.

My job means I see new kitchens a LOT.

At the moment, I am seeing mostly handprinted kitchens with the island painted in a completely contrasting colour. In fact, pretty much every house I go to has pale grey cupboards, chrome knobs and cup handles, a large island painted in a bold F&B colour, and cream metro tiles are still going very strong.

3luckystars · 17/10/2017 22:55

Oh you are so lucky seeing all those kitchens! Are you seeing many Navy cabinets?

BuzzKillington · 17/10/2017 23:02

I saw a very dark blue island today.

BuzzKillington · 17/10/2017 23:03

Just saw I put 'handprinted' Hmm

Handpainted obis

BuzzKillington · 17/10/2017 23:04

Obvs.

Fucking autocorrect.

I have white high gloss shaker style & I’m surprised that the comments about keeping it cleanConfused we find it very easy, just wipe over with baby wipes

Ramona75 · 18/10/2017 16:41

I went with a Matt white handleless kitchen in my last house, got it from diy kitchens here, it looked good and just required a wipe down once a week, especially on the handles as dust can gather there (the kitchen really did add value to my house and i got my asking price!). I would definately have a handleless kitchen again and might even go for gloss in my new house, but that is a little while off as i'm skint :-)

NinonDeLenclos · 18/10/2017 17:10

I don't want to see another grey kitchen as long as I live.

3luckystars · 18/10/2017 19:24

Yes they are everywhere but they are really nice.

The only alternatives are white or a darker colour like black or navy and I don’t think I’d be brave enough for that.
