Two tone kitchen?

What are people's views on two colour kitchens? Really like Howdens Burford Grey which is a subtle green but worried about TOO much green. Also like the Burford Ivory but worried it's a bit boring. So considering the green for the base units/peninsula, and ivory for the wall and tower units. The worktops will be oak block effect laminate.

My new one, ordered but not installed, is two tone. Dark grey for the island and dove grey for the wall units (from an independent)
With a pale work surface.
Took me months to finally decide.

OhWifey · 02/09/2017 15:34

Oh we loved the dark grey in Howdens but our budget won't reach it. I'm pretty sure I would take months to decide given half a chance. But fitting starts a week on Monday. Didn't help to have a bored 3 year old in the showroom with us this morning.

I would mix them differently. Island a d up high same. Base the other colour so colour moving around. I love two tone.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 02/09/2017 15:45

Will 2 tone always work, or are there 'rules' for how to do it?
I like grey but I don't want a whole grey kitchen in our north facing kitchen as I think it'll be too dull/grey/dreary on grey damp dark days.

Mendeleyev · 02/09/2017 15:49

Two tone here. Stone/grey colour on the bottom and antique white on the top. North facing kitchen like a PP. I was worried that the stone colour would be too dark all over and all white a bit boring. It looks lovely.

Falconhoof1 · 02/09/2017 16:10

We have aubergine base units and white high units. The kitchen is north facing but so bright now because of the light colour up top.

Parastars · 02/09/2017 16:12

Two tone for us too. We have ivory kitchen cupboards with light blue island. I love it!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/09/2017 16:13

I think dark Base units and pale wall units looks lovely and "expensive "

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 02/09/2017 16:14

I think they are a bit done and very of 2012.

QuitMoaning · 02/09/2017 17:01

@KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth.
What do you recommend then? What is your kitchen like?

YorkshireTea86 · 02/09/2017 17:27

I was thinking about this as dh really liked the cashmere colour when we went to the DIY showroom but think it will be too dark in our dark kitchen so are just going white. I think they look lovely on the customer pictures though.

Believeitornot · 02/09/2017 17:55

We are going for a two tone kitchen.

And given that I'm not a follower of fashion, I don't give a monkeys if they're "out of date". Given kitchens are replaced probably once a decade, how can they remain in fashion for long?

We will get either dark blue or grey on the island and white on the wall units. With a white quartz worktop and oak flooring.

It will look fabulous, Pinterest tells me so Grin

Tatlerer · 02/09/2017 18:05

Almost snap believeitornot. We're having partridge grey (light grey) wall units and a hartforth blue (deep navy) island with a Carrara white composite worktop and aged oak flooring. Chosen because we love the look of it. Kitchen will have solid birch doors so if we ever fall out of love with the colour scheme it can be repainted fairly painlessly.

namechangedtoday15 · 02/09/2017 18:20

Charcoal island here with light grey (more French grey) units on window run. Marble effect quartz work top. Love it. Don't care whether it's 'of 2012' Confused but makes me happy Smile

QuitMoaning · 02/09/2017 19:45

Almost identical to mine namedchangedtoday15

Ridingthegravytrain · 02/09/2017 19:56

I was going all antique white but a few days ago had it re quoted for cashmere island.

AnonymousTomato · 02/09/2017 20:47

People with two tone could we see photos?

namechangedtoday15 · 02/09/2017 21:05

Not great photo of colours

Believeitornot · 02/09/2017 21:11

@Tatlerer sounds gorgeous. I may revise our white to a light grey, it does sound lovely. Ours is south facing so white might be too harsh.

4yearsnosleep · 02/09/2017 21:23

Ooh Falconhoof do you have a pic? We're thinking aubergine island, whiteish units and haven't seen many 'real life' pics

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 02/09/2017 21:27

Namechanged are they black window frames?? Love em!

namechangedtoday15 · 02/09/2017 21:31

They're anthracite (dark grey)

ncforkitchenpics · 03/09/2017 06:41

We have mid-dark blue island (fired earth bamiyan blue) and light blue/Grey rest of the units (f&b skylight). I'm really happy with it. I loved the strong blue but it would have been too much all over.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 03/09/2017 09:05

I can see that an island in a different colour to rest of units works really well.
Our kitchen is smaller though so no island.

Anyone got different colour wall and base units in a smaller kitchen?
Would love to see some examples. :)

ujerneyson · 03/09/2017 11:42

We've got a mix of slate grey Matt handless doors and a mid grey woodgrain for the island and top cupboards with white quartz worktops
