Clement Windows. They're the best for Crittal. Also did these for us. There's 4 going across the extension.

Crittal windows - HOW MUCH???!!!!
Chocolatear · 27/08/2017 13:19

I've just had all my crittal windows replaced with aluminium ones. It cost £11.5k including a set of bifolds. I loved the crittal ones but the maintenance was a pain, and we suffered with a lot of condensation.

llhj · 27/08/2017 13:19

So I had mine painted in downpipe but you can have them in any colour.

SorrelForbes · 27/08/2017 13:23

We've had crittal 'like' French doors and windows in the extension to our 50s house. We used Duration Windows and got then for a much more reasonable price!

Badweekjustgotworse · 27/08/2017 13:23

chocolatear who did your aluminium ones of you don't mind me asking? Do you see a big difference in the amount of condensation?

llhj you had a lot done, your extension looks beautiful. I'll check out Clements thanks for the reference

We replaced some original crittals which were beyond repair a few years ago, and got aluminium crittal-alikes. They were half the price of double glazed crittals, but still twice the cost of upvc. They look about 90% as nice, and we haven't used the thick feather duvet since. It was the right choice for us, although if I won the lottery I'd have proper crittals in a heartbeat!
Jennyfields did ours, i would recommend them.

Chocolatear · 28/08/2017 08:56

I live in Surrey and had loads of quotes from local companies. Ended up using a company in Dorking. I'll Pm the details if you're interested. I couldn't believe the difference in some of the quotes!

The condensation has disappeared but it was always worse in winter once the heating was on. So the real test will be this winter as the windows were installed on February this year.

I love that we are now draft free!

Wow - IIhj - they are stunning. I am doing a renovation as well - and considering them as the wall between the hall and lounge and also between the kitchen and lounge -- would that be too much? lounge having transparent glass on two walls.

Currently we have obscure laminated bifolds between lounge and kitchen - but moving to transparent - wold this be a mistake.

Please share links of any cheaper suppliers.

Also any thoughs on creating a look-a-like from thin soft wood door frames and painting them black.

Any thoughts on these obscure versions from Plain English?

Hope havent diverted thread - but love the whole look

another20 · 28/08/2017 10:06

need to click "view" on the plain english link

Badweekjustgotworse · 28/08/2017 11:03

another not sure about two walls glazed but it depends on so much, are there windows on the other walls? Would you have enough space to place your furniture without it obscuring the glazing? A big enough room where you could have a walk around behind the sofa for instance would make it much more feasible

Love the striated glass in their images. Their whole website looks very high end, id image they'd be budget busters though!

chocolatear if really appreciate that thank you. I'm hoping the first quote I got is ridiculously high, I don't live on the mainland so the only company on the same landmass that do them is the one I got the original quote off.... I'm hoping they've just stuck the arm in thinking no one will bother looking across the water. I live in hope!!

Reading this I'm feeling better about the £30k we spent on new hardwood double glazed sashes. The price was scary but they are things of beauty and I love them. Now I just need to save (a lot) to replace the horrible upvc conservatory with a powder coated aluminium one.

clementwindows.co.uk/case-studies/private-residence-hertfordshire.php

Found this amazing case study - no idea of the cost tho!!! will look into it..

wheresmyphone · 31/08/2017 07:32

We looked at Crittall then plans changed so we looked at Crittall type windows. Do be careful if you go for Crittall "style".... had a few companies promising Crittall style but once I got them to do proper technical drawings they were VERY different and not so elegant. They all promised the slim metal frames etc etc but once drawings came through the metal was much "fatter".

another20 · 31/08/2017 12:26

Would love to know which other companies do crittal style - and how the costs compare. I love the effect but the 8.5k for short run is not in my budget and I would be happy with something similar if possible.

Where is the cost - steel? aluminium? bespoke?
Is there anywhere that does a look-a-likey off the shelf?
Can you get thin frames with wood?

another20 · 31/08/2017 12:47

This is a useful blog - but US based suppliers:

Badweekjustgotworse · 31/08/2017 14:43

We'll just had an email back from another manufacturer/supplier who linked me to a previous project (internal double doors and side panel) ... 11.5k Confused yeah I think we're out!

I think that you could achieve a not dissimilar look with wood - have a look at these traditional Paris apartment windows/french doors

newgirl68 · 23/10/2017 10:12

Hi chocolatear
Am also looking at crittel doors. Can you let me know the place you found in Dorking?
Thanks

suzyrut · 23/10/2017 11:00

Hi,

We have an external door from Duration that is an aluminium version of crittal. It cost about £1100 without fitting. I think they do an internal door as well called the balcony one. They're on my list for the next stage of my renovation.

You can design the amount of astragal bars yourself etc. so I think if you have a design already then they could work with that.

I wanted a lot of light in so went with a just a couple and a solid base. They look exactly like crittal and are very thin. They get compliments all the time.

whoopwhoop21 · 23/10/2017 12:18

My dream is to have some Crittal doors, love these photos.

newgirl68 · 23/10/2017 13:34

They look great and not a bad price compared to the folding sliding doors.

Tulsehill · 13/12/2017 00:33

Hi Chocolatear please pm the deets of the Dorking company you used. Thanks!

stayathomegardener · 13/12/2017 00:38

Google bronze casement windows, so pleased with ours and price was good with some tweaks.
