Where can you buy a house for less than £200,000 in South East?

Just that really...
Looking for nice safe areas in the South East preferably commutable to London and easy access to M25.
I'd be really grateful for any opinions.
TIA?

Well nowhere if you want to easily commute. There may be a few places where you could buy a small house for that but they will not be well connected.

JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 13:26

Maybe Essex? Nowhere else

Polyethyl · 05/08/2017 13:27

Ha ha ha ha.

Adjust your expectations.

imsorryiasked · 05/08/2017 13:34

[[http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-61190398.html#_full-description This]] has a full list price of £210,000.
But generally speaking you will be looking well over £300k for a decent size house.

imsorryiasked · 05/08/2017 13:35

link fail

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 05/08/2017 13:35

Would be more like 300k but try Hemel or Watford

Theworldisfullofidiots · 05/08/2017 13:37

The above is for over 60s only. If commutable does it have to be m25? You would be able to live further out if you could use the train.

Saucysausages · 05/08/2017 13:37

Lots in Dagenham for 150-180 on rightmove
Good commute

Tipped for high price increases

Kettering - 1 hour train commute. Don't know Kettering though...Wicksteed Park is fab though..

imsorryiasked · 05/08/2017 13:49

theworldisfullofidiots linked property is discounted for over 60's, the full price is £210k as I stated.

lovethebeach · 05/08/2017 16:17

Thanks for (most) your replies.

@Polyethyl pointless comment

@Saucysausages thanks what's Dagenham like?

Actually there are a few in Maidstone and Chatham but I'm not sure how nice the areas are. It looks like they are close to the town centres.

What size house and do you have any absolutes that you won't compromise on such as needing separate lounge diner

lovethebeach · 05/08/2017 16:20

@Theworldisfullofidiots those Homewise ones are really annoying on Zoopla and 'not showing' 'retirement' doesn't get rid of them either.

OP posts:
JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 16:21

Dagenham is grim, as are Maidstone and Chatham. There's a reason they're cheap

Floralnomad · 05/08/2017 16:23

Maidstone is ok , better on the Bearsted / penenden heath side though , Chatham is ghastly . Slightly further on the same line is Sittingbourne , which despite my dc calling it Shittingbourne is actually being regenerated at the moment and has got an M&S foodhall , all the big supermarkets / Aldi / Lidl , is just getting an Iceland freezer centre and B&Ms ( or such like) . There are also plans for a new cinema and restaurant complex . The schools are very similar in standard to Maidstone , if not slightly better although the Grammars are probably not as good as the Maidstone Grammars . HTH

lovethebeach · 05/08/2017 16:24

@Note3 it's for my son who wants to buy his first property. He doesn't have any specific requirements, he want to get a house though so he can get the freehold and so he doesn't have to pay extortionate service fees and land rent etc. I would like him to be able to buy something in a nice safe area that's all.

Rockandrollwithit · 05/08/2017 16:25

Seriously, don't buy in Dagenham. I'm relatively local and there is no way I would live there.

lovethebeach · 05/08/2017 16:26

@JigglyTuff are they really bad?

OP posts:
lovethebeach · 05/08/2017 16:28

Thanks @Rockandrollwithit and @Floralnomad thank you that's useful to know which parts are ok. He's single ATM so doesn't have to worry about schools for a while.

OP posts:
JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 16:31

If he's single, why doesn't he buy a flat in a slightly nicer place than a house in a horrible one?

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60358015.html

Chelmsford is nice and this is a great flat. He can rent a room out :)

crazykitten20 · 05/08/2017 16:54

Ooooo I like that @JigglyTuff !

JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 17:07

Don't you go buying it now @crazykitten! Grin

crazykitten20 · 05/08/2017 17:13

Bit far for me to commute to work 😉

KitKat1985 · 05/08/2017 17:48

How many bedrooms do you need for the money? Eastbourne / Polegate area may work for you.
