Would you recommend removal company packing your stuff?

We have a two bed property and am thinking about packing myself but then a colleague said she would definitely get it packed? What have you done? I haven't moved in 14 years and when we did we didn't have two kids!

Yes. Worth every penny.

Tatlerer · 18/07/2017 18:58

What dragonfly said. Every single time. Handing your keys over while you, DH and the kids go out for a leisurely breakfast and returning to a packed-up house/flat is bliss.

Panicmode1 · 18/07/2017 18:58

Yes, yes and thrice yes! Best money ever spent!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/07/2017 18:59

Yes!

OhWifey · 18/07/2017 19:02

Yes yes and yes

HattiesBackpack · 18/07/2017 19:02

Another yes! I've moved a lot and when work stopped paying and we had to pay removals costs ourselves we never got packers- oh how we regretted it!

ExplodedCloud · 18/07/2017 19:06

Yes. They're so worth the cost.

sm40 · 18/07/2017 19:08

Yes!!!!!!!!
Best money spent.
However they like tea do make sure you are well stocked on t bags!!

CappuccinoSprinkles · 18/07/2017 19:10

Oh god yes. They are amazing. They do it so fast and it is worth every penny.

Squ1ggle · 18/07/2017 19:10

Another yes, we had to move from a 2nd floor 2 bed flat to a house with a 6 month old, me with a bad back and Dh having just had knee surgery. We used pickfords and they were great, for some reason the quote to pack as well was only about £100 more than if we'd packed

janx · 18/07/2017 20:09

Well that's a resounding yes then! Thanks for replies. So did you just declutter - we already bought boxes - do they use their own?

CMOTDibbler · 18/07/2017 20:22

I've been packed and moved twice - the last time we were moving 150 miles, and for various reasons we both had to work up to the actual day, had packed nothing, and ds was 14 months old. Oh, and you couldn't get the lorry up to the house.

That house went from totally normal to on the lorry in 5 hours and I did no more than put a case in the car!

Tatlerer · 18/07/2017 20:33

Yes janx they use all their own packing materials (bring them with them on the day) but if you've already bought your own boxes they might knock something off the quote?
I didn't declutter much, just decided it would be easier to bin stuff I no longer wanted to keep when we got to the other end. I only packed one box (of my knickers!!) and a suitcase of essentials and that was that.

EggysMom · 18/07/2017 20:41

I concur with the other respondents - packing service was definitely worth the money. We were only moving two miles, but have an autistic son who we worried would (1) get upset at boxes hanging around for weeks if we packed ourselves and (2) try to unpack them. So we got ours packed the day before and onto the van during one school day, surviving that evening with minimal items and furniture left in the house; and moved next morning whilst he was again at school. Fortunately transitions aren't an issue for him, so he took to the new house layout straight away Smile

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 18/07/2017 20:46

Worth every penny. We were only moving 1/2 mile or so, but it added on around £200 to the removal cost. I have recommended it a million times over for friends. We decluttered before we put the house on the market but literally walked out of our normal functioning house the day before the move, had a McDonald's for tea and slept in my parents' spare room (although could have managed at home) and I even almost relaxed!

OliviaStabler · 18/07/2017 20:48

Yes. GB Liners are amazing for this.

FinallyHere · 18/07/2017 20:51

Make sure you understand how they label things, so that you know that the contents of a box comes from shelves 1,2&3 (or whatever). Then, at the new place, have a sheet that tells you what room that location will be, so the boxes end up in the right rooms. Brilliant.

Idrinkandiknowstuff · 18/07/2017 20:53

Just want to add to the resounding Chorus of Hell yes. Took them two hours to pack up our two bed house. Would have taken me weeks

AntiHop · 18/07/2017 20:56

This is a useful thread as my dp is unconvinced about this so I'm going to show him this thread.

HipsterHunter · 18/07/2017 20:57

Yes yes yes but do have a massive clear out first.

Also, like, they will pack literally everything so make sure things that are staying (window keys etc) are somewhere separate and safe;

thecapitalsunited · 18/07/2017 21:06

Moved on Friday and had packers. Was brilliant. Arrived at 8.30 and had everything on the van by 12.30. Had it all unloaded in the new house by 3.30 - we got lucky and the keys were available just as they finished unloading the van.

I had a two bed flat and it only added £50 to the cost. Regardless of cost I'd never move without packing now that I've seen how much of a stress reliever it is. I did a lot of decluttering before they came (which is why the cost was so low) but you could just let them pack all that clutter if you wanted to.

We used Luxfords of Weybridge and would really recommend them.

sahknowme · 18/07/2017 21:06

We've booked packing and removal for this weekend - first time we've booked packing, so will let you know how it goes!

SweepTheHalls · 18/07/2017 21:07

A million times yes!

My husband seemed to work alongside our packers. He came down from our loft blackened but they all looked knackered at the end. Don't let this out you off -I'd certainly do it.
