Did you rule out Sudbury?

Fairylea · 28/06/2017 20:27

I really don't like Ipswich. Everyone I know thinks of it as a rougher version of Norwich. Blush

katymac · 28/06/2017 20:29

No Sudbury is definitely in

But there aren't a lot of 3 bed (or larger 2 bed) bungalows in any of these areas

& I'm not convinced yet I want another house (despite my health being better, DH is getting older)

Thetford forest is amazing. The rest of thetford, not so much! I live about ten miles away, the Tesco is a good size and there a Sainsbury's too. Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Ely are all lovely. Cambridge obviously very expensive but Ely is slightly more reasonable and only about 20 minutes drive Smile

katymac · 28/06/2017 21:21

Thanks Cottonwool - I have a question may I PM you?

Is a village out of the question, op? There are some lovely ones around where you're interested, but obviously you have to travel for some of the facilities you want.

katymac · 28/06/2017 21:34

No villages are cool - my current one has about 330 houses & I like it
But 10 miles to the supermarket & nearly 30 to the hospital won't work as we get older.....

I don't need everything but a range of stuff is nice

10-15mile to work is fine though

That's fair enough. Well, you could look at East Harling and villages around there. East Harling has a few shops (a butchers, a minimart type place, a couple of takeaways I think?), a GP and pharmacy, and a train station. The nearest big supermarket would be Tesco in Thetford (easy enough to get to down the A11), with smaller ones in Attleborough and Diss.

Spudlet · 28/06/2017 21:48

Work-wise, you're v close to the A11 so good for getting to Norwich. Bury St Edmunds or Ipswich would be a bit more of a PITA though.

Have you looked at Newmarket and surrounding areas (10 mile radius). We have got friends in Newmarket and it always seems pleasant enough when we visit.

Great road connections. Cuts that 1.5 hours to get out of Norfolk off everything.

katymac · 28/06/2017 22:07

Added East Harling (plus 5 miles) to my list - not much there atm

Newmarket is on the list

Katymac of course you can Smile

Banham and Kenninghall also worth a look (they might be on the list already as they're near to East Harling). You've got a couple of shops, a few pubs, chip shop, coffee shop, butchers, GP and a zoo there! Nearest supermarket would be Attleborough (5 or 6 miles), Norwich would be your best bet for work. Not brilliant for public transport though.

MidsummerMoo · 29/06/2017 12:41

Although I actually like Ipswich (and reckon it will become more popular as the next nearest place out of London), it is a pain to drive from most of Suffolk to Yarmouth because of the roads; A12 is tiny in places and always takes longer than you want.

katymac · 29/06/2017 13:32

Midsummer it's not exactly Yarmouth so I'd prob do A140 then A47 (hate A12)

Quite fancy down the A143 tho'

feltwell, west norfolk is nice, quiet but attractive, great value.
