We are looking to move. Currently living in Essex and dh has a commute of 1.5 hours. We would love to cut that down and to move closer to London whilst retaining the family friendly feel we have here. We have a toddler and would love another so would want a 3 bedroom house and budget is around 475k. Any suggestions?

Westminster is one of the most polluted areas in London in terms of air quality so hopefully don't move too close!

Look west to Perivale, on the central line and change at Bond Street.
I lived near there years ago and visited recently, still affordable for 3 beds and has a village feel. As long as you're away from the A40, but then again easy road access out of London.

Look around stations on the rail lines out of Waterloo - it's a nice walk over the bridge or (if it's raining) one stop in the Jubilee line to Westminster.

HeatedCatFurniture · 24/06/2017 16:59

Blackheath. 10 minutes to L Bridge where you can change to Jubilee line, or 20 mins to Charing X and walk from there.

I used to work in Westminster and lived in Ladbroke Grove.

Look at places that go in to Charing Cross or Victoria. I live in a lovely village 30 mins to Victoria and then walk to Westminster so it's 45 mins in total.

TittyGolightly · 24/06/2017 17:56

When I worked there I lived in Wandsworth.

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 24/06/2017 18:40

Some of these places are lovely but sadly not in our price range. Which places on the route to Waterloo/Victoria would you recommend? Someone i know mentioned Bromley. I have never been so any idea whether it's nice there?

Bromley is South east so Charing cross, surely?

Uberfluffs · 24/06/2017 18:47

If you want to go out a bit - Dorking?

outcrops · 24/06/2017 18:48

Bromley goes to Victoria. Lots of the Sevenoaks villages go to Charing Cross or Victoria

LadyOrangutan · 24/06/2017 18:49

Worcester Park/ Stoneleigh. You would get a 3 bed for your budget there, decent schools & about 30 mins on the train (SW trains) into Waterloo. Then hop on jubilee line for one stop or walk to Westminster

BertrandRussell · 24/06/2017 18:49

I lived in Osterley. But that was a very long time ago!

Phineyj · 24/06/2017 18:53

Bromley

SaintEyning · 24/06/2017 18:58

west sussex - use the Brighton mainline when southern aren't on strike...

pappers · 24/06/2017 19:39

What is your price range? What sort of area are you after - family orientated or great social scene?

sparechange · 24/06/2017 19:48

I lived in Balham when I worked in Westminster but it will be out of your price range

If you want to be in London, look at Carford/Hither Green, which is 15 mins into London Bridge and then another 15 mins on the jubilee line to Westminster

If you want to be further out, any of the lines into Waterloo or Victoria would be a 10 min walk to Westminster

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 24/06/2017 19:59

We both work there. We've just moved from Crystal Palace to beckenham

TheProdigalRhubarb · 25/06/2017 01:00

I lived in Brighton when I worked in Westminster.

Fiddlestikks · 25/06/2017 01:07

I work in Westminster and live in Beckenham. Not sure what you'd get for £475k,but depends what you need in terms of size, proximity to schools etc.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/06/2017 01:57

I work in Westminster, live near Coventry. The commute is not too bad but it would kill me to do it daily. I work from home regularly.

OlennasWimple · 25/06/2017 02:07

Look at houses in the Croydon direction and towards Kingston

TBH you are going to be limited finding a 3BR house for that unless you can afford higher commuting costs, in which case Woking and Guildford are good options

SofaToad · 25/06/2017 02:44

NW7, large area and varied property and prices.
There is also NW4 (Hendon) and Cricklewood which might suit your budget, some parts are being regenerated.

gentleshouting · 25/06/2017 07:13

Dh commutes, we live in canterbury, 55 mins out of kings cross. Still about 1hr 30 door to door but manageable and he works at home twice a week
