I need to reconfigure ensuite as it's too small.
There's only me so I'd never been situation of using the loo and someone coming through.
I'm not moving anytime soon

Builders and friends/family don't think it's s good idea, but can't say why

It wouldn't bother me to be honest, if you aren't planning to sell and move anytime soon I'd do it. It's your house and you want to be able to enjoy it so make the changes you want to. If you have to change it back when you want to sell so be it.

munchkinmaster · 28/05/2017 17:35

The walk through ensuite is awful, the taking sink out and putting it in bedroom is a better idea. In a really glamorous corner. The best idea is to leave it as it is

FritzyMousey · 28/05/2017 17:48

From what I can see from your pics you have a pocket door into your bathroom which is obviously taking up a lot of space. You could have a frosted glass wall and door instead and effectively have the exact same layout you have, then if you tiled the floor of bathroom and corridor, maybe you could just lose the shower door altogether, preferably with a wet room floor but even with a shower tray I think it would be ok? Will post some pics

FritzyMousey · 28/05/2017 17:50

The black framed glass one here with glass door looks good. Then I think you'd keep the corridor as it is with normal doors, just tiled floor to match bathroom.

Or even put the shower in the middle like this, though it'd probably need to be a proper wet room for this (and frosted glass). Then have glass door or doors either end.

Love those black framed ones. What did you put in to search for those doors?

What strikes me most here is do what you want to do. Resale is resale. Fix it when you need to sell. It's an odd layout but if it works for you then go with it.

butterfly990 · 28/05/2017 18:41

Frameless glass shower. Three quarter height wall into corridor with glass from top of wall to ceiling? This would make it less clostrophobic

Really love Fritzy's pics

I know you really want to do this and objvously its up to you but I viewed a house where you had to walk through the ensuite to get to a spare room and it was the single thing that stopped me buying the house. It was a large house (5/6 beds can't remember exactly) and even though it was only the spare room I couldn't bear to have guests walking past smells, dampness, cold floor tiles to get to the bedroom. I just know that Dmil would moan about putting slippers on to go to her room and that sounds a poor reason but I wanted guests to feel comfortable and I wouldn't be happy walking through an ensuite to get to my bedroom ten times a day..

I get that it's for you and you don't share - apologies for the personal question - but are you certain that you're never, ever going to have a stinky man stay over? Would you really want to trap him in the bedroom while you do a poo or announce that's what you're doing so could he not leave the bedroom?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/05/2017 19:37

It's the perfect set up for the space as it is, why would you want to change that?

I really hate the door you want unless you are going to go for a completely rustic look for both your ensuite and your bedroom. The door would not go with anything modern. I like mixing styles but to me that's a step too far if you want a contemporary look to the surroundings.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/05/2017 19:38

and it's just an ensuite! It isn't the main bathroom. Ensuites are supposed to be smallish and there as a convenience. Not a hindrance.

EpoxyResin · 28/05/2017 19:38

Yes to Fritzy's frosted glass pics!

origamiwarrior · 28/05/2017 19:42

You could switch your toilet for a toilet with integrated sink - either one like this www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/iconic-combined-two-in-one-wash-basin-toilet? or, (nicer IMO) build one like this pic. This would be just for handwashing.

This would give you more circulating room and, if you wanted, you could get a slightly larger cubicle. You should get a better extractor in the room.

You would then need a proper sized sink in your bedroom for teeth cleaning, face washing etc. From your doors, it looks as though your house is period, so an attractive period sink could actually enhance the room - look on google images/Pinterest for ideas.

It would really put me off too. I'm not a fan of the habit just now of wedging en suites in resulting in too small bedrooms and I think having to walk through the en suite would just make it feel like it had been wedged in to a not big enough space.

VeuveLilies · 28/05/2017 20:29

It's not perfect curly
In the shower you have to be under the water, there's no space to pop your head out and breathe. That's because it's a rain head shower which I could change.
If I want to shave my legs, I have to switch the water off, lather up, shave and rinse.
I cannot get the bottom of the shower door clean, I hate shower doors/cubicles for that reason.
I really don't like anything about the tiles.
The other side is all mirrored, which makes me want to jump around for joy seeing myself naked first thing in the morning Hmm
And inside the cubicle is damp and mouldy because you have to close the door if you want to brush your teeth or get into the bathroom to use the loo.
All these things conspire to irritate me and right now I want to make my life easier.
So I'm changing it, and I'm just trying to figure out how best to use the space, because there's a corridor which just seems like wasted space.

The rustic wooden door was going to go with the washed out beachy theme of the bedroom, but I agree it wouldn't really go with anything ultra modern.

Ninja- never say never but it's very doubtful that I'll ever have anyone over. But right now there's not an awful lot of privacy, there's a v thin glass door that just closes to, it doesn't close over.
Origami, that's the best one of those toilets I have seen, but to get water in my bedroom would be a big job I think.

Butterfly- that could work

monsieurpoirot · 29/05/2017 09:02

Another option? You would have to do more work and move the ensuite window slightly, but makes best possible use of the awkward space IMO. Glass doors would be frosted obviously. shower is walk in 1200. TV on wall so you can watch it in bed when hiding from the kids Grin

I wouldn't mind sink and mirror in the bedroom with toilet and shower behind a door/screen and in fact that could be quite good as a dressing table area if it had goodness lighting.

I wouldn't be a massive fan of walking through an actual bathroom to get to the bedroom but if you have no plans to sell for like 5+ years do whatever suits you OP :-)

That door you posted a photo of looks really cool.

Do get the most powerful and quiets extractor you can't OP.

Kokusai · 29/05/2017 10:24

OP defo get one of the duel head showers - I've got a rainfall head PLUS normal shower hose head that can be taken off to use to swish round the bath or raised/lowered eh not to get hair wet.

I reckon only men put in single fixed rainfall heads. Hate them.

AnthonyPandy · 29/05/2017 10:54

Use a shower curtain? And get a much better fan, as someone upthread said.

VeuveLilies · 29/05/2017 22:19

Wow Poirot! Thank you, are you a designer?
