Help with kitchen cabinets. Looking to immitate deVOL.

I'm looking to imitate a deVOL kitchen but can't afford one Sad
I've looked at DIY kitchens Norton range but the lay-on frame is 10cm, a lot chunkier than deVOL. Has anyone seen any kitchens with a slimmer onlay frame above no V groove (so the frame is flush with no gaps)? I dint want in-frame. Thanks so much!

Thank for asking that question JW13 as I've just checked the quote & it says their sale starts on 2 May & the sale price would be £12k, so 50% off. I will have to investigate further!
Do you have a pic of your kitchen Gerbita?
Rosie70 I think the rail is the frame "Norton's timber finish and shaker profile with flush joints make it a design classic. A pure shaker style with an extra wide 105mm frame, Norton allows you to add your own personality to the look of your kitchen." I just feel the frame (rail) is a lot wider than the expensive deVOL & Plain English shaker doors. I'm like you, there is just something about it that is putting me off - in my case the chunky frame!
CuteOrangeElephant I did start pricing up BS but it was adding up to a lot so I quit!
Shortlass I think the rail on Stanbury is 107mm like Norton.
Thanks again everyone for your help!

Thanks so much for your replies Gerbita and Home Extender. Very useful and interesting! Did the kitchen installation cost quite a bit Gerbita? People seem to say they've saved on installation costs with DIY Kitchens as the units are ready assembled.

Ooh, jumping in here as I'm really interested. Gerbita, your post has really given me food for thought as we really want a Devol style kitchen and were originally thinking about the Norton style from DIY Kitchens.

Can I ask what colour you went for? Echoing the poster up-thread, I'd love to see photos too.

I can see the IKEA option on the company's website, which looks great. Did you choose the "Shaker painted door" option or is there something I'm missing?

Hi all. I am currently planning my kitchen (and extension). I too, fell in love with Devol and Shaker co beautifu; haigue blue and desperatly trying to replicate with a limited budget!! I am looking at DIY Norton in either haigue blue or black blue (F&B do so many lovely clours, it is so difficult to chose). Now, being in W/ SW London there, visiting their showroom is not an option. Has anyone around this area (or out, I am prepared to travel around a bit, as currently too desperate and need to move on form this point) had a DIY kitchen (or kitchen direct, how do the 2 compare? I haven't got around that yet) installed and is happy for me to take a quick look? I would bring chocolate around! 😁 thank you!!

Have a look at Units On Line. Similar ranges to DIY kitchens and their showroom is in Somerset.

Thank you SorrelForbes, they do look lovely! But would they not paint them for you at all? I wouldn't know where to start to paint them and wouldn't they need professional colouring, maybe spray?

We live near the devol showroom and used them as the inspiration for a kitchen renovation. If I was starting from scratch, I would have used our local joiner, who could have replicated the style and quality very economically. I had my stone floor from Floors of Stone at devol, because I couldn't find anywhere to match them for quality and price.

We have recently installed a pineland kitchen which was not significantly more than a DIY kitchen to recreate a Neptune kitchen (but of similar appearance to the DeVol).

Also might be worth considering //www.framedkitchens.co.uk

I have posted on other threads so apologies if you have seen this pic already, but we have a DIY kitchen in F&B black blue. Doors are handleless Luca, not shaker but everything else relevant. We are relatively close in SW19 if it would be any help to see the build quality, paint finish and colour etc.

Have a look at www.nakeddoors.com/products/cabinet-doors/painted-hdf-shaker-door they do just doors to fit cabinets (whatever size you need including Ikea). They also do whole kitchens under the name Naked Kitchens.

I'm not sure of the rail size in my link, but they look narrow - I've found the same problem when I have been kitchen hunting.

Whatashower - lovely kitchen - can I ask what floor you have and where it's from? Thank you

Every time I see whatashower's kitchen, it makes me smile. Such a drop-dead gorgeous room.

❤️ whiskyowl If I have some eggnog later I might be brave enough to post What It Actually Looks Like Right Now.

And that is despite building the separate utility/'real kitchen' behind it to hide the mess.

widerworld thanks, it is engineered oak 20/6mm brushed and oiled. Purchased in a leap of faith from poshflooring.co.uk. This supplier has pretty harsh reviews but in fairness our experience was extremely good and we are very happy with the quality/price ratio of the wood. Other posters say oiled is difficult to maintain though. We are 10 months or so in and all fine with one minor buff up just because we could. But we have no kids or chaos.

Rest assured that how ever messy you think it is, it is nothing compared to the rubble-strewn, dust-infested wreck that is my kitchen. I currently have my old and new garden taps rigged up with cable ties over an ancient stainless steel sink that is covered in blobs of plaster, and a complete collection of builders' toolboxes on proud display. whatashower - many thanks, it looks really lovely. A lot of the engineered flooring I see looks great online, but then I get a sample and the colour is just wrong. Yours looks natural though, which is what I'm after.

Yep, understand - the problem with small samples is they dont show the lack of uniformity inherent in natural wood, nor the quality of the batch you are going to get, or how the manufacturer has graded the wood. It really is a leap as you can never see the floor you have paid for. You also pay more for higher grades with more uniformity but I suspect stripping out the variation is what can make expensive wood look like high end laminate. For us, the brushed and oiled finish made the difference. We were also lucky in the batch received and at an early stage I decided to be pragmatic - I wanted a real (engineered) wood floor that could be sanded if required ( its glued down on underfloor heating so needs to be robust and long lasting) - so I decided not to worry beyond that requirement - i.e. not fixate about knots or ease of cleaning. If you do decide on wood my advice would be to invest time in sorting and grading the boards (you need space) so you know what you have got, and employ a good fitter who takes time to select and plan the boards. It can be hard if builders are on final fix and pressing to finish the job. If you can find a reputable local company who can supply and fit and are accountable thats probably best - I spent months researching the best value boards online but the saving was obliterated by the extortionate London installation costs.
The company we bought from has been recently taken over which may or not improve their customer rating. The brand/style we got was the Victoria board.

I'm not expert on emulating DeVOL kitchens (and I realise the OP has probably long gone) but Multiwood do a shaker door with a 75 mm stile, which might be of interest to those wanting a finer door.

I think unitsonline and onlinekitchensuk (not sure about DIY kitchens) are stockists.

Gerbita is it possible we could see a picture of your kitchen. We are in love with the devol kitchen but are on a limited budget

This might not be much help/too late but I'm planning to buy Ikea units and shaker doors from the company that Gerbita mentioned above (I've mentioned earlier in this thread that I really want to imitate a DeVol kitchen). Planning to match in Railings by F&B (which is a dark grey with hints of blue). Gerbita sadly didn't reply to my PM asking the same so I'm guessing she's no longer on Mumsnet. I can post pics and update when the kitchen is in but it probably won't be until Feb.

Thank you crumbelina. That would be very useful. Crumbelina I am completely new to kitchen renovating so forgive me if this is a silly question. When you get the Ikea kitchen did you get a designer to come to your house? Did you get an island,if you did was that from Ikea? Is it easy to find and give the measurements to the shaker company? Did you buy your applicances/sink from Ikea?
