What's fabulous about your kitchen?

Just that really. I need to renovate but not really sure what to consider. I know I need as much storage as possible and a dishwasher but not sure about materials or what's available in terms of magical touches to make life easier and the kitchen more exciting. Just read on here about Appliance Garages, liking the idea of hiding everything away but still being accessible whilst avoiding built-ins. Please inspire me.

No idea what they're called but the built-in, pull-out basket/rack things are brilliant (but expensive).

Make sure your dishwasher has useful cycles including a quick/1 hour cycle to save a 3 hour wait...

Pull out drawers hold so much more than cupboards and give amazing access.

The ones like pan drawers or narrow pull out larders - I've got them instead of wall cupboards which makes the space feel much bigger without compromising on storage space. Corner cupboards - don't bother with the fancy things in them, just use them to store the thing you don't use much at the back.

The more storage you have the more cr*p you keep...

Induction hob is amazing and doubles up as somewhere to put hot things straight out the oven. Hob top kettle boils as quick as an electric fast boil and saves on taking up work top space.

I have two identical ovens, side by side, with drawer underneath each to make them the perfect height for me. So useful.

I love my pull out double bin (waste and recycling). Also we got one pullout cutlery drawer in one of our pan drawers, but no other drawers as I tend to fill them with crap!

The cheap vinyl tiled floor that DH has just laid. It's actually lovely to look at and walk on!

Oooh I'm doing our kitchen at the moment and having design finalised this week and looking forward to having:
Lots of drawers rather than cupboards with drawers
Pull out unit for appliances like toaster, etc
Insinkerator water tap 😀 Yaay!!

We did our kitchen about 18 months ago.
Big 90cm pan drawers. We don't have any cupboards at all (apart from under the sink) under counter height, love drawers!
Big glass splashbacks with lights above
USB sockets built in to 2 of the plug sockets for phone/tablet charging
4 x floor to ceiling larder cupboards. We havent even managed to fill them yet, there is so much storage space!

We have a full height corner cupboard which is a mini utility room. Has my freestanding washer and drier (stacked), Hoover, steam mop, broom etc all hidden away behind one door. I bloody love it. Moving house and when we get a new kitchen at our next house it's the first thing I'm going to ask the kitchen planner to include

My dream list

Deep soft close drawers rather than cupboards.

Underfloor heating.

Big cupboard for various bins.

Walk in utility room off kitchen.

Boiling water tap.

Good under unit lighting.

Integral music system.

Inbuilt ovens.

Floor to ceiling units so not dust can catch between top of unit and ceiling.

Biggest fridge possible.

Pinterest is great for ideas.

I wouldn't recommend an Insinkerator hot tap. Our new kitchen is 3 years old and the hot water tap has been nothing but bother. First it kept dripping boiling water so the tap had to be replaced now the hot water tank has leaked and will cost £300 to replace. Apparently the hot water tanks are only lasting on average 3 years before their seals erode. Now we are stuck with a broke tap otherwise if we removed it we would be left with a big hole in our worktop and are just using a normal kettle now!

Pan drawers, pull out larder, built in recycling bins, double Britannia range oven, combi microwave/oven, stone work surface, slate floor with underfloor heating.

we have glass splashback all around in between top and bottom cupboards and it is a big help when it comes to cleaning... similarly glossy cupboard surfaces also make cleaning easy.

soft close cupboard doors... these days they come as standard with most kitchens and you really appreciate them when u hear say a kitchen cupboard door bang shut at work.

Massively wide drawers - really don't know how we coped without them.

Soft closers.

Loads of storage so nothing, apart from the kettle, is on worktops - I hate stuff 'out'.

Really big butler sink. Our last kitchen design we had a tiny round sink as we thought that was all we would need with a dishwasher. You still need a decent sink.

Island with seating.

Big range - we love it.

USB sockets. I also had a special cupboard made with sockets just for use as a charging station - it never gets used.

American style fridge freezer with water and ice dispenser.

Finally, I got massive samples of the flooring from Amtico and encouraged the dog to walk over them with wet feet. I chose the one that showed the paw prints the least and it's fantastic!

Ooh, interesting. I'm waiting to see if they can knock through our kitchen diner but a simple bench instead of chairs has made cleaning up round the table after dc much easier

All in all it's my dream kitchen.

Room for a table. I can sit and talk to dh while cooking dinner.

We have a pantry which I love. The rest of the kitchen at present - well the least said the better!

Separate grill not grill-in-top-of-oven is high on my wish list.

Granite worktops and glass splash backs (no regrets about spending too much on these), a floor that hides dirt well (!), 2 dishwashers, eye level oven, room for seating, a feeling of space and light, our baking zone.

Regrets:
not getting more pan drawers, not moving the boiler out of the kitchen (to allow us to have french doors instead of a single back door), not extending slightly to square off the room which would have allowed a better layout
