You seem to have decided so not sure what you're asking for....having looked at the other one I think you should go back and look at it again..it's not a terrace which is a massive plus - do you know about the access down the side of the otherone
as oldbirdy has said the things you don't like are easily fixed and no one has right of way if your a semi - it has a good size garden too if you wanted to extend more but has a downstairs loo already so a lot of the expensive work done which the the other one does not..

I really would look at it again - however dont know the area so no iddea if thats an issue?

Hector none of those are in Cambridge which is why they are cheaper.

I think the price looks very fair for Trumpington. You could also do things to the garden to make it low maintenance if that was a worry, although I personally think you could also make it fab.

chipsandpeas · 23/02/2017 20:17

fuck me 400k for that, in my area a house like that would be about 140k tops
so glad i live in scotland

maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 20:30

I'm not offended by the madam comment don't worry!
£400 is the absolute top budget which is pitiful in Cambridge terms. The road is a bit rougher at the other property (that's being polite) and this one seems quite a bit better.
An offer has been put in but obviously that can be withdrawn , was just wanting to see if anyone had any major red flags that we had missed on the foster road property.
The side access doesn't faze me, but maybe I haven't had the awful experiences that some of you have had possibly ??

Hauxton isnt exactly miles from Cambridge. £50k less for about 3 miles....

maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 20:32

Has to be near good public transport too, so villages are out really.
There's not much at all on the market.
My partners parents place is on for 1.75 and they are struggling to shift , as is my friends place on for 3.2. Normally would be gone in a flash but stuff is going very slowly I think at the moment.

I'm picking myself up off the floor here - £400K !!!!

I spent less than that last year and bought a 4 bedroom detached spacious bungalow with fabulous views, lovely private garden, huge living/dining room etc. You are living in the wrong place!!!

AverysillyoldHector · 23/02/2017 20:35

Great Shelford and Sawston both have good public transport.

maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 20:38

@Blossom I can't move because of contact and my mum wants to live in this area again! I wish I could
Just leave and go somewhere cheaper I really do but it ain't happening.

maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 20:39

I'll
Suggest that to her but I think it'll be a resounding no. Her parents are amazed too , as they come from Leicestershire which is far cheaper than Cambs.

I live about 10 mins cycle ride closer into the centre of Cambridge than the house OP has linked to. Many of the ex council houses in the streets around where I live go for between 700 and 800k. Cambridge is eye watering expensive.

maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 21:11

It's shocking how expensive it is. I've grown up with it though so quite used to it.

It just goes to show how hard it is to advise when you don't know the area.

On paper to me, the Byron Square property looks to be in a much nicer area and the layout much more suitable, with a ground floor bedroom and shower room for your Mum, which might be sensible if she might find stairs tricky in the future. Smells and decor can easily be rectified, so can lighting.

I don't like the look of the Foster Road property because the garden is almost all in shadow and the next door loft extension is massive and overly imposing. There's also only one bathroom which is upstairs.
If it's you, DP, a DC and your Mum living together, a downstairs room for her gives you all a bit of separation as well as being future proof depending on her age and needs.

All that said, if a seemingly nicer semi is £10,000 cheaper asking price than a mid terrace, then you do have to wonder why.

One thing really puzzles me, one side the solar panels are all over the front of the roof and the other side they're all at the back. Anyone know why?

OrangeFluff · 24/02/2017 00:03

I don't know about the area or the price, but the house itself seems great to me!

The rooms all look a great size. The decor looks good enough to live with until you can afford to change it. It has huge potential for extension into the loft and out the back.

The front could look much nicer with a new drive, fencing and some plants. It is just bare at the moment, which makes it look less welcoming.

The back garden alone would make me want the house! (keen gardener)
