Ah, the back building thing is the old coal shed/outside toilet probably and is not actually attached to the house? Can see it through the kitchen window in photo 2.

Astro55 · 23/02/2017 10:23

If it's for you and your mom - then the four bed would work better - own entrance access to own bedroom and kitchen / bathroom

Both need work but the 4 bed is cheaper - and it overlooks the green

You can't change the position of the 3 bed

Kiroro · 23/02/2017 10:36

Oh yeah... if it is for you and your mum then that 4 bed with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom could be IDEAL if she becomes less mobile... In

"I wonder whether you are realistically priced. This place is very close, has a larger kitchen and an extra bedroom but is cheaper*
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-61674983.htm

I know you said the kitchen was lit with horrible strip lighting but you could get that replaced with lots of LED spots and go for the 'daylight' bulbs and you would improve it a million %. That would be a v cheap thing to do!

If you removed the silly cupboards above the peninsuilar that owuld imporve the light nad flow as well.

Bathroom not as nice. Also can;t see front of house so can't check on side access (I think none) and parking. Also just how usable IS that conservatory?

NotJanine · 23/02/2017 10:49

The garden is promising. But the house doesn't really have anything going for it.

Looking at the local area, this one looks nicer (to me) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-61674983.html

Viviennemary · 23/02/2017 11:56

I just don't like it. I immediately thought ex council. Saying that there are some very nice ex council houses. But I just don't like the style of this particular one. I'd be interested to know when it was last sold and how much for. Looks as if somebody has bought it and done it up quickly to make a killing. And the price. Shock I just wouldn't spend that kind of money on this house. I'd look for a different house. Hope you find something suitable

everythingshunkdory · 23/02/2017 12:07

It's a good solid well proportioned family home. You can extend in the future if you need to. The garden is huge but DC will adore it.

Negative for me would be the possibility (likelihood?) of that caravan coming back- would that bother you?

pictish · 23/02/2017 12:38

I think the snobbery about ex-council houses is just...bizarre! Some of those ex-council properties were very solidly constructed, particularly those from the 50s and 60s and there is no doubt they provide an inhabiting family with a good spacious and well thought out home. With the housing market being what it is now, I am astonished that anyone would snub such a house for being ex-council. If you are able to afford to buy any kind of house at all these days, you are among the fortunate. To snoot at a property for being ex-council is just bloody crass.

pictish · 23/02/2017 12:41

The motorhome certainly wouldn't bother me and I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with it? The neighbours have a motorhome and so what if they do? What are they supposed to do with it?

That it's not pleasing enough to the eye of Little Miss Madam is a crap thing to moan about.

PunjanaTea · 23/02/2017 12:43

That's a ridiculous amount of money to live in a below average house in Trumpington. Does it need to be Trumpington? Or just in and around Cambridge?

Viviennemary · 23/02/2017 12:48

It's not snobbery to point out that this house is grossly overpriced for what it is. And when it comes to resale the estate agents will be the first to be shaking their heads about it.

pictish · 23/02/2017 12:55

I agree that it is grossly overpriced...I can't argue with that because it's a fact. I was genuinely shocked at the asking price. However, if that's the going rate for a sizable 3 bedroom property in Cambridge, that's the going rate. It's preposterous but there you have it. That's what the housing market in Cambridge entails.

flownthecoopkiwi · 23/02/2017 13:07

Good price and location for Cambridge and I would suspect prices will stay strong. Near good school and waitrose. Great garden!

VacantExpression · 23/02/2017 13:11

I'm with NotJanine the one she has linked to looks nicer to me too. Ex council doesn't bother me at all though our last house was ex council mid terrace, was solidly built, we had no problems with it at all.

maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 14:11

I'm very much of the opinion that you take what's given and this is the only option right now really given the housing prices round here. It needs to be in this area really as my mum doesn't want to live over North Cambridge way at all.

OP posts:
maxandmaxine · 23/02/2017 14:23

Also the caravan is not a problem at all! Maybe it's my age (young) but I looked straight past that at the house rather than focussing on it.

OP posts:
ThomasHardyPerennial · 23/02/2017 15:09

I think it look really good - good sized rooms, and the bathroom and kitchen look fine! Potential to renovate the attic is a definite plus, and the garden is great! Go for it OP!

pictish · 23/02/2017 19:22

I wasn't saying you were Little Miss Madam who wouldn't like looking at it OP...I was making a general comment about posters here and anyone else who would find complaint about their neighbours' caravan being outside their own house.
Some people don't know what a shit view actually is. The neighbour's motorhome isn't it.

AverysillyoldHector · 23/02/2017 19:25

Bloody hell thats a lot of money! Foster Rd used to be the rough bit of Trumpington, have things changed?

BumWad · 23/02/2017 19:29

Sorry but that is one ugly house

AverysillyoldHector · 23/02/2017 19:30

And just to put my comment in context, a friend has just sold a lovely ex LA semi detached property for £10k less than that about 4 or 5 miles away in a village.

oldbirdy · 23/02/2017 19:33

I can't understand why you would turn down a larger house for less money with a better quality kitchen because it has 'poor decor' and a kitchen lit by a strip light, and because it smells of curry. (Amazed no one has picked you up on this offensive statement! ). It would cost a couple of hundred quid to change the lights and a couple of grand max to redecorate most of the rooms. You could even put French windows in and still have paid less than you are thinking of paying for an exceptionally ordinary house with one less bedroom.

DevelopingDetritus · 23/02/2017 19:39

That's an infinity garden.

Wondermoomin · 23/02/2017 19:41

Sorry if I've missed it as I've only quickly skimmed but have you been in and seen it properly? The description is at odds with the floor plan. The floor plan clearly shows a ground floor flat and an upper maisonette - not a traditional terraced house layout.

Viviennemary · 23/02/2017 19:43

I thought I was the one being called little Miss Madam. I've been called worse. Grin We made a mistake with our first house. Good house not so good location and not as attractive from outside. We found it hard to sell and don't want anyone else to make the same mistake. So I'm over cautious.

Allthebestnamesareused · 23/02/2017 19:47

As a current Cambridge resident I can assure you that the house the Op is interested in is actually priced lower than I would expect!

Op you may have been better off posting in the Local Cambridge pages.

We appreciate that at other places in the country you can get much more for your money.

Cambridge is the second most expensive place to live in the country after London and prices are set to increase further due to Astra Zeneca coming to the town and the expansion of the Bio-Medical Campus.

There is a real shortage of housing and the new builds are smaller/smallish and being priced at £700,000. Many people moving into the area are looking at exactly this type of property as the rooms are bigger than the new build.

As an example this is a semi on for £565,000 so presumably out of the OP's budget but just to show it is the Cambridge market.

Good luck OP. I am now off to see if I can find you somewhere to live!!
